Podcast about the acting life and film (Linked Episode features Jacob Lofland) by SampleyBarinaga  •  last post Feb 11th

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my podcast with you all. I usually either sit down with a guest to discuss acting, films and joke around. The one that I linked is one of my favorites because Jacob Lofland (Mud, Maze Runner, 12 MO) is super honest about the craft and helpful to newcomers. I also have other episodes feature other actors like Levi Dylan, Jake Austin Walker, and sometimes my wife joins in on the fun! I appreciate the support, and if anyone ever wants to come on, feel free to message me! Break a leg, and have a great weekend: [https://open.spotify.com/episode/4oVLNTtMidXa1yew8pSDU4?si=ac1610a128a94f89](https://open.spotify.com/episode/4oVLNTtMidXa1yew8pSDU4?si=ac1610a128a94f89)

I want to know if there are some good online sources by SaleSubstantial9962  •  last post Feb 11th

So I was curious if there are any good online sources for possible acting classes. I am completing a degree for English, but taking a single Theater 101 class to get some experience within the field of drama and acting. But I want to know if there are any credible sites online that give you most of the information and recommendations out there that are essential for future actors in training? If you have any suggestions, please type them down below.

I got a referral!! But I'm not sure if I'm ready by Personal_Tourist2846  •  last post Feb 11th

Before my acting class today, a fellow actor approached me and offered to refer me to their agent out of the blue! I am extremely grateful and happy that they believe in my work and would be willing to speak on my behalf. However, I am not sure if my resume is ready. I have a plethora of theatre credits, but no tv and film, with one commercial and a decent amount of training. I just don't want to submit and then get turned down because I don't have experience in everything. What do you guys think? I have been doing theatre for a long time, but I very recently started pursuing the tv and film route which is where I ultimately want to end up, so this world is new to me Thanks :)

Actors in London by Avenger_3000  •  last post Feb 11th

Hey guys! I just moved to London from Amsterdam. Due to the pandemic, I had no motivation left to take serious steps towards the acting industry. However, since I’m here, I really want to pick up acting again and tap into the acting opportunities in London. The problem is, I haven’t met people yet with the same creative interests. I have two questions basically: 1. Are there any places where I can practice and film some monologues? My flat situation is limiting me from doing those things. More importantly 2. Any actors around that want to work together on some tapes and practice together some scenes? We can give each other feedback to improve our craft. Motivation is key, let’s also add a dash of motivation and optimism in there. I’m here for a couple of months and I really want to use my time here wisely by meeting new actors, practicing, going to workshops etc. About myself: -24 year old Dutch-Turkish male -Loves Marvel movies You know what they say, team works makes the dream work. I would love to work together towards our dreams. Let’s do this!

What is a "femme-identifying actor?" by ChocolateDeficiency  •  last post Feb 11th

It is someone who identifies and/or presents as female? Or would it imply sexuality as well? I've heard femme in the context of queer/lesbian women, but I've seen so many casting/audition notices using the term "femme-identifying" without any mention of lgbtq+ in the call, nor any themes related to the community. Also, no mention of lgbtq+ in the mandates and creative team bios. I'm a straight female, stereotypically feminine, for lack of a better term, so I never know whether or not I'm allowed to apply for these roles. Please, forgive my ignorance, I'm genuinely confused because I think the term is being misused, but I also don't want to commit a faux-pas, and use my "ignorance" as an excuse to apply to something that I'm not eligible for.

Anyone need a reader/audition partner/coach and/or someone to simply talk shop with? by Kubuu  •  last post Feb 11th

Ever since the majority of what we do has gone remote, i.e. classes, auditions, workshops, etc., the usual face-to-face "community" aspect of my day to day has been severely lacking, so I'd simply like to reach out to more actors to see how I can be useful. As we're doing way more remote auditions, I'm looking to serve as a reader/audition partner, provide direction/coaching if asked (not claiming to be a professional coach, just offering what I've learned over time!), or simply just chat about careers, goals, etc. I'm a New York City based SAG-AFTRA actor and am open to meeting up in person or working via Zoom/Google Meet/Skype/etc. For me, it's really about keeping active and keeping the muscles sharp as I learn so much from watching others work, so please feel free to reach out, as I definitely would love to connect with other actors from all walks. If you want to review my materials and such, website, reel, etc., lemme know. Thanks and best wishes!

Any international students who majored in Acting/Theatre? by Individual_Tale8578  •  last post Feb 10th

I'm a high school senior planning to become an international student maybe in the United States or Canada. I want to know any experiences some of you might have had with regards to being a working actor post-grad or pre-grad (if your visa allowed it). Is one country more welcoming than the other?

Headshot-Age Range-Character Type Feedback by AutoModerator  •  last post Feb 10th

Use this thread to post your headshots for feedback, get info on your age range/type, find good headshot photographers, ask any questions you may have about headshots. If you are posting a DIY headshot for feedback, and not just a snapshot in order to get feedback on your age range/type/etc, it is advised that you do at least some basic research on what actor headshots look like--composition, framing, lighting. You will find a Google Image search for "actor headshots" to be very helpful for this. Non-professional shots are fine for age/typecasting; please keep in mind that one picture is a difficult way to go about this. Video of you moving and speaking would be ideal, but understandably more difficult to post. For what it's worth, the branding workshop at SAG-AFTRA recommends a five-year age range. That's inclusive, so for example 19-23, 25-29, 34-38, etc.

I want to be an actress(advice) by Midgetspinner_160cm  •  last post Feb 10th

Hi, I’m 15 years old and I currently live in Korea.(My moms Korean and my Dads American) I basically want to be an actress in the US. I’ve been thinking about this ever since I was about 11 years old. (PS: I went to foreign school so I’m pretty fluent in English) So the thing is, I want to study abroad and go to the US so that I can get used to the culture and stuff. I’ve told my mom about this, and she thinks that it might be too early for that. So I was thinking that maybe I can go to a arts high school where I can learn acting and stuff in Korea but to be completely honest, I’m really thinking what I should do because I’m confused. To be realistic here, succeeding as an actor in general is really hard, but wouldn’t going abroad and learning acting be way more difficult? And I look asian yknow… as far as i know, they don’t pick a lot of asian actors.. But I still wanna do it. I really have the will to be an actor Or I could just start acting in Korea first, and IF I succeed, I could attempt acting in the US which probably will take a longer time.. But I’m fine with that What do you guys think? Do you think there could be a chance of succeeding? Or do you think it could work? I need advice

Becoming an actor with fear of public speaking by miss_shrimp  •  last post Feb 10th

I have always had an intense fear of public speaking. On the other hand, I’ve always wanted to get into acting. I know there are actors out there who say acting is different than getting up in front of a group of people and giving a speech. Is that true? I want to get into acting so bad and this is the only thing that’s holding me back.

New Voice-Acting Mic by Mediados  •  last post Feb 10th

Hello Reddit people, I am a new Voice Actor who wants to make decent quality Voice-Overs for Animation and Games, but honestly, I have no idea of hardware. Can any of you guys recommend a good Mic to start in the business without sounding like a person who just started? I am right now thinking about getting a Rode NT1, what do you think?

Got the agent, now what? by Competitive_Fan202  •  last post Feb 10th

Small actress from Toronto with a few VO commercial works under my belt. I have been with my agents for almost a year now. I keep asking my agent how I can get a demo started for animation voice over and she says by getting more VO roles... What I've come to realise is that I am in a VO purgatory of needing a demo to be submitted for VO work and needing VO work to be used to make a demo. I don't know if the VO buidness is slow in Toronto or I'm not being submitted for everything because I am non union, but I really want to focus on voice over work for commercials and animation because it's always been my dream. Any advice?

Joining the theatre. by Particular-Type7846  •  last post Feb 10th

i’m gonna be joining this theatre club in a couple of weeks - i’ve had the idea in my mind for a while but i’ve never went through with it. i’ve been addicted to marijuana for the past 6 months and it kinda f’d up my whole flow ig. for context i’m 17 and still in college, i guess i’m just trying to get my life back on track with something that i always wanted to do. i remember the last time i was involved with acting and drama was when i was 12, failed the class and completely froze up on stage and couldn’t remember any of my lines; made a fool of myself really - it also really hurt since i really wanted to be an actor. i’ve been reading a couple of acting books to prepare myself for it, i’m really not sure how useful that is but it can’t hurt right? Larry Moss’s book was super interesting, the Mesiner book was

How important is it to have a good Stage Manager in theatre? by Ok-Fondant3645  •  last post Feb 10th

I’ve only worked as deck crew in shows so I don’t really see actors and stage managers interact.

has anybody worked at an agency and was open about being an actor? by randomactor234  •  last post Feb 10th

because of my frustration with how long acting its taking to "happen" for me, i've since found a passion in filmmaking / producing and am pursuing work in that area to actually be able to have some kind of career, and not have to wait tables anymore. i've basically landed an interview for an agent assistant position at a pretty legit agency, i think it's actually for the president of the agency or one of the presidents. I'm hoping to dive head first and use it is a gateway to something more producing-specific after putting 1 - 1 1/2 years into the desk, like working in development somewhere / on a team of producers or an executive producer's assistant, with the goal of crafting a producing career longterm. But i also think it would be an invaluable learning experience as an actor to learn more how the process works and how I could better tweak my personal acting situation, not to mention, who knows, if i play my cards right maybe somebody from this place could potentially rep me AFTER my tenure as an assistant here, if I become genuine friends with them? i just wanted to float this out there and see if anybody has done anything like this before. How did you play it? I'm also taping for a small supporting in a hallmark movie and a recurring guest star for a tyler perry show tonight, meanwhile i'm piss broke and i might not have anymore auditions til next week, or maybe ill have another 1 or 2 this week, who the actual fuck even knows anymore, I feel like this journey is making me insane.

What you guys think about made up languages ? by MonsieurPoung  •  last post Feb 9th

Hello, It's gonna be a weird question So I'm planning to "hire" some voice actors for a small video game but since I won't sell this game (it's a dreams ps4 game, I can't sell it) and that I can't afford to pay real actors I'm gonna search for also amateur aspiring voice actors. The game has a pretty serious tone and I thought that, if I made up a language in the game like Tolkien did for his universe, maybe it will decrease the amateurish sound of the actors ? (I know that amateur doesn't mean necessarily bad, but I'm taking precautions) Of course I know that, even with a made up language, you can feel emotion and to do that you need talented actors, and I'm ready to give advice to my actors to make everything sound right (from my point of view). But what you guys, as amateur / professional / voice actors, think about made up languages, is it easier for you to act in made up language, harder.. ? both.. ?
