So, I'm a new actor with a lot of passion and drive but very little experience (only did drama in high school and little practice on my own time, currently a senior). I'm doing an acting workshop this weekend and it's my first legitimate acting class, I'll be making my first acting reel in it. Besides my general nervousness for this huge step , I'm specifically anxious over what theme/mood I should go for in it? I don't want to make the faulty decision especially because I paid for it myself... I'd like to go for something that would show agencies my potential but I really don't want to go for the typical sad crying scene. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Hi everyone! I’m getting back into acting more seriously after taking an extended break during the pandemic. I’ve been taking classes but haven’t been working since then. Prior to the pandemic, I was working in Dublin and London in independent short films and smaller theatres, but would love advice on where to start in New York as it seems more insular. As I haven’t done anything in a bit (and don’t have an agent) I feel that my first step should be to revamp my reel. Is there a place that posts a lot of student/short film auditions? I’ve been on backstage a bit but it seems to saturated with actors that I can’t imagine it’s the best platform to find work. I’ve had a lot of luck with Facebook in the past, but right now I’m pretty lost. Thank you very much in advance for your help!!
I’m a real prospect with both nationalities 6,2 handsome and my looks are unique , want to start my career ASAP, need a agent that’s gonna do the best for me .
29 y/o black male from Georgia I have been wanting to act over the last year or so, but since I didn’t start while I was a kid it’s to late. I’m turning 30 this year I just want to know do I still have a chance of making it BIG as an actor over the age of 30? If so where do I start? S/N: I notice the only actors that really make it or the ones who started as a kid.
Hi ! Not much to say, that’s my question, i’m doing some little research before writing my short film and how to work with actors. Thank you !
My wish is to quit school and hop into acting. I love this "job"! Currently, I live in Romania. Here the acting schools aren't so advanced, because the film industry isn't that WOW. We don't have such big and famous actors like the US does. I wanna leave Romania and fly to somewhere else. Does Europe have acting schools to join without highschool diplomas? If yes, do they exist in countries like the UK, or Germany? But if not, which are those acting schools in the US or Canada which can accept me without highschool graduations? Thank you!
Title! I’m not trying to brag or put the other actors down- I’m actually asking so I can be a better actor myself! I’m a professional actor, I’ve got reps, training, yada yada. I’ve seen the resumes/websites/reels of the other actors in this Shakespeare i was cast in, and they don’t have any classical training. To be clear- they have listed a few classes, but no classical training among the classes. And I see certain traps they fall in, in the footage they have in their websites: They don’t pay attention to any rythym with their Shakespeare, they have a lot of tension in their bodies when they perform, they don’t have breath down, to name a few things. So I guess my question is… have you ever found yourself the only classically trained actor, or even just trained, in a production? What was it like? Did you perform better, or worse? Did you feel confident in the show?
A few years ago I moved to a new country. Now I speak the language well enough, but my acting career has slowed down for obvious reasons. Through lucky circumstances I managed to book a meeting with an international film director from here (not for an audition or anything specific, just a meetup); so other than watching all their film catalogue, I was wondering what I should do to prepare and how I should handle the meeting. Do you have any advice?
Hi there everyone, I'm new to this community for the past few years I have been hard at work on my HP Fan Timeline I am happy to say that The Founders S01E01 is making progress, however one small hiccup I have cast most but not all and Auditions have been slowing down and now am in desperate need of Female Voice Actresses I have a few Side Characters and Extra and one Main Character/Antagonist, and as the flair says this will be a paid gig. The Roles Still available are as follows... Antagonist: Lady Ava - Lady Knight - English or Scottish Accent: $50 Per Episode Side Characters: Miss. Ravenclaw - Scottish Accent: $25 Per Episode Teen Rowena - Scottish Accent: $25 Per Episode Teen Eleanor - English Accent: $25 Per Episode Teen Ava - English or Scottish Accent: $25 Per Episode Head Maid Miranda - English or Scottish Accent: $25 Per Episode Marilyn Prewett - English Accent: $25 Per Episode Extras: Cook - English or Scottish Accent: $10 Per Episode Maid #2 - English or Scottish Accent: $10 Per Episode Maid #3 - English or Scottish Accent: $10 Per Episode Maid #4 - English or Scottish Accent: $10 Per Episode Village Girl #1 - English or Scottish Accent: $10 Per Episode Village Girl #2 - English or Scottish Accent: $10 Per Episode Village Girl #3 - English or Scottish Accent: $10 Per Episode Witch - English or Scottish Accent: $10 Per Episode How I decided to pay each person was as follows Main Characters get $50 Per episode as they're in every or almost every episode so deserve more for their work. Side Characters are mostly in one episode thought they can appear in more than one however they aren't as central to the plot however they are central to the episode so they deserve more for their work. As for extras they'll be in one or two scenes so that's why it's such low amount. I should also mention that I am Australian so it'll be in Australian Dollars, apologies, but yeah now here's a link to the Audition, I hope this type of Post is allowed and not taken down. For Male VA's wanting to be part of this project never fear, I will upload a link for more auditions Episode #2+ when that happens. Not to mention other Projects I am working on.
I’ve never seen this but I’m also a few months into AA so maybe it’s normal? I saw a role for a short film and liked the idea so I applied, got an eco cast and submitted my self tape. During this time, the casting director probably didn’t know how to use AA because I was getting multiple messages all saying the same thing but a little different like she was sending this to anyone who got an ecocast but that’s besides the point. 2 days after I submitted I saw another post for the same short film but this time it had a different name for the film and was no longer a film but a “mobisode” and the crew (director/producer) was completely different but the roles were the same and described the same as the original post I applied for. Is it a scam or does something like this normally occur? I didn’t get a response back from my self tape which I’m glad because I was weirded out on the conflicting info but curious if anyone is familiar with this?
I greatly appreciate the success and progress I’ve made. I’m 33 years old and I started acting 5 years ago. Since then I’ve got an LA agent, booked 3 supporting roles in low budget feature films, booked 4 episodes in a low budget tv series, and became SAG eligible. Now I’m just not sure how to get to the next level. I’m a bit exhausted to be honest. I’m not financially stable by any means and I’m not a known actor. Most people think I’m rich since I’m on IMDb but that’s not true. Truth is, it’s been a grind. Classes, networking, and balancing life. Sometimes I think it’s best to get into a more stable career, especially during this strike. Can I get some advice?
Summary of you don’t want to read rambling sorta ish Questions I’m asking : • Where do I start as a actress? • If I don’t have $money am I completely f*cked? • Am I decent looking enough to be in film? • I have a gap is that a really bad thing or a really good thing? • where can i apply to at least have a shot at anything? I don’t know guys I’m lost :( Hi I’m a 21 year old Native American female I’m 5 foot tall and weight 148 pounds I’ll drop some pictures for this post so I don’t end up over explaining I’m really bad with that I never have fully understood it but I have adhd and sometimes I feel like it effects the way I convey things to people. (I promise I don’t use it as a cop out I just feel like it screws me over sometimes) anyways I am completely new to the acting scene, my interest has really always been with singing but recently I had gotten this ad for a casting call in Oklahoma…yes..Oklahoma I feel like there is no such thing as getting good jobs down here but to be fair I’m near Tulsa so it’s a decent city to be around for opportunities, or so I’ve heard lol! anyways I applied after seeing the add on Facebook and what not but missed the in person auditions by 1 day because I read it too late… kill me. Sometimes I get really insecure like there’s no place for me in the film industry but this particular show was reservation dogs so I was like “HOLY COW! Im Native American as Heckin boof! This could be something!!” Long story short it’s been a long time, like a month and a half no reply. Yes, I got sad but I’ve been reaching out to others… no luck with that either. I just, basically what I’m asking you guys here is do I really have a shot? I mean you guys can check out my imbd page and stuff if you’d like I just, do you ever feel insecure like you’re just a plain Jane in others eyes? Maybe im rambling I don’t know but I just genuinely would like someone to check out my page or I’ll post some pictures here to and let me know if I’m worth it or if trying to pursue a career like this is for me. I want real genuine opinions I swear I’m not fishing for compliments here I just don’t know what others think of me when they see me but I’ll tell you what when people hear me sing they think it’s awesome. So that’s a win haha! I know this post is a bit weird but honestly sending constant emails with no reply this feels like venting to a friend who understands. (Maybe it won’t let me post a picture?)
I know some scenes were shot without Ronald so that allows for retakes but how tf did they not break when interacting with him. If I had to do Noah’s “I’m a racist” scene or be the defendant’s attorney, I would have absolutely lost my mind the second I made eye contact with the other actors. I’m truly mind blown!
(im sorry if i sound very uneducated, im still very new to this) Im 15 years old and i genuinely want to be an actor, like on hollywood, starring in popular series/movies. I know that EVERYONE whos into acting wants that, but im scared that i will waste my life trying to pursue something impossible.. I dont have the most ideal hollywood look. I mean, im confident in myself and i love my body, but i dont think that movie studios do. I have lots of scars, i have piercings, i have bad posture, im autistic and im transgender. I honestly dream of acting every day, but i dont know if its worth it... Its one of my biggest dreams but i dont think i could ever be in a movie, probably just ads and stuff like that. I also live in sweden, so id probably have to move to America to actually have a chance. Could some of you please share how you first started out, and how youre doing now.
I feel like it was an open call but I have no fact. So an agent was probably possible for the few with more experience. I doubt it was on actors access though. Just curious.
the examples he gave me were for really accomplished actors they represent, like people that have multiple series / recurrings / supporting roles in films opposite major stars.... ... and i don't have that yet. so my "accomplishments" would be training and student films... it kinda seems pathetic to write it like that. how do I navigate this? Have you ever had to make a pitch deck for yourself without having major tv/film credits yet?
They sent a message 10min past my scheduled time they were still with other actors and for me to be patient but sitting and doing nothing for close to 30 min seems like a waste of my time for something very small (small pay and a few lines). I know I wouldn’t mind if it was in person cause that seems to be the norm but should I continue waiting For this over zoom?
Use this thread to post your headshots for feedback, get info on your age range/type, find good headshot photographers, ask any questions you may have about headshots. If you are posting a DIY headshot for feedback, and not just a snapshot in order to get feedback on your age range/type/etc, it is advised that you do at least some basic research on what actor headshots look like--composition, framing, lighting. You will find a Google Image search for "actor headshots" to be very helpful for this. Non-professional shots are fine for age/typecasting; please keep in mind that one picture is a difficult way to go about this. Video of you moving and speaking would be ideal, but understandably more difficult to post. For what it's worth, the branding workshop at SAG-AFTRA recommends a five-year age range. That's inclusive, so for example 19-23, 25-29, 34-38, etc.
Heyy Fellow actors. I just got the opportunity to go to festival the Cannes. I know this huge and all that. I will be on the red carpet, this wil be my first red carpet. I also will be backstage with filmproducers/directors. Anyone tips or tricks for the best way to market myself as an actor.
I'm in an amateur acting club for teens and we have to do an educational performance about respect to a bunch of 6th graders. So far it's been good but there's a considerable problem with people exiting. It starts with a bully starting problem with 2 friends calling them a couple, before exiting alongside 1 of the friends. Then the friend walks back on and after about 30 seconds of conversation the other friend walks off. Then the bully walks back on before walking off again after being slapped with the friend that left entering a 2nd time. Then the person that slapped the bully leaves and the bully re enters before having a conversation with the bully leaving for a 4th time. Finally everyone walks back on and the bully apologises. This is with a lot of context cut out but none of the scenes function well and we can't figure out any ways for any of the actors not to leave without the character just standing to the side for no reason. We're really stuck and none of the help we've received have really reduced any of the amount of exits so I thought I'd go here. Anyone got any advice? Tldr: Too many actors exiting in a short performance, anyone know a solution?
