Directing an African American voice actor... by deafness • last post Jun 27th
I recently recorded a couple spots for a TV ad that is directed towards African Americans. I hired an African American voice over actress and I felt she did a really good job. My superiors on the other hand, could not "tell that she was black". They now want me to try and re-record the spot and see if she can sound a bit more ethnic. As a white guy, I'm pretty lost as to how to request something like this. What is the industry standard for directing this type of work? Is there a right/wrong way to go about it?
