Where to find professional actors by SushiCPR  •  last post Sep 20th

I am looking for actors who can film their own short videos and send them to me. Is there a good place to find this kind of professional quality? I have been asking actors on Facebook but the quality is not consistent.

Any actors out there with dreadlocks? by Royal-Change-2094  •  last post Sep 20th

i don't have dreads but I have twists in my hair. I am debating whether or not I want them to lock. I like the look of locs, but I worry it would hinder potential roles. truthfully I am growing out a afro and I love it but even that seems to maybe hinder roles, because most black men in film have mostly had low cuts. I see in the new house of dragons show there are black characters who are given locs, I think in the new avatar film some characters have locs as well. to get to the point are there any actors here with locs. have locs significantly affected the acting work you audition for/book?

What is an acting/actor’s profile? by sylviequach  •  last post Sep 19th

What exactly is an acting/actor’s profile? What do you need to do? Is it just an headshot of yourself with informations like height, etc. or a video of you from all angles, introducing yourself & saying informations or is it your acting resume with a picture of yourself on it? When agencies tell you to send your profile, what do they mean?

Any experience with MovieLux Artist Management? by LTHewitt  •  last post Sep 19th

London-based actors! Just received a contract with them which is full of typos. I can't find much about them but they seem okay. Does anyone have experience with them and should I avoid them?

Weekend Auditions - Rant by ActorActingInLA  •  last post Sep 19th

I want to preface this post by saying that I'm very grateful to be an actor who gets a lot of auditions. But I'm also allowed to be grateful and exhausted at the same time. Is anyone else overwhelmed with weekend auditions? I wish casting wouldn't be allowed to do this. I feel like as actors, we work so hard to get flexible week night jobs, that leave our days open for auditions. And although the new world of self tapes have made it easier to be an actor now then ever before, it's still SO demanding. Sometimes it feels like it's crickets during the week days as far as auditions go. But the minute Friday night comes around, audition notices start flooding in. All with Sunday night and Monday morning deadlines. This weekend I had 5 auditions. I was exhausted. I had to cancel plans to get them all done. And don't even get me started on the 6PM audition notice you get on Tuesday, thats due at 8am on Wednesday morning. I know deadlines happen and this industry is very fast paced, but I would much rather an 8am audition notice thats due at midnight that same day. Whatever happened to having your days open for auditions?

As an actor, what kind of paperwork do you look for on a short film? by FerrariCar12345  •  last post Sep 19th

So I getting ready to direct my first "real" short film. I say "real" because it involves me actually casting people and not just asking my friends. It's a really small short film thought as it is really just me with a camera and two actors. However, I do not know the actors personally ( I found them on a Facebook acting group) so I want to keep it as professional as possible. Filming is pretty easy. There is no action or anything. It is a character/conversation piece. All that being said, what kind of paperwork should I present these actors. I also plan on paying them like 80-100$ probably for a days work (still working these things out). I'm assuming I need image release forms, and maybe a location release form since I plan on filming at an Air Bnb. Other than that, is there anything else I should give the actors? Thank you!

How should I use Twitter as an actor? by PaxG0ldc0re  •  last post Sep 19th

I’ve been toying with different social medias to use for promoting things I do like writing or performances. I thought that it would be a nice thing to have as an aspiring writer/actor. I have an instagram and TikTok and know how to use those apps. The one that I don’t know how to use is Twitter. I know it’s older, but it’s still a really nice social media. What’s the best way to organically grow and use that platform?

[Acting Question] What is an Actor's Range and Can an Actor Expand This Range? by xJoshuaMaye90  •  last post Sep 19th

Hey /Acting, I just had an interesting question that I knew to some extent, but I am just curious to know from the community-at-large about what is an actor's range, and can an actor expand this range at any point in their career? Thanks, take care. I'll be reading for your thoughtful responses. :)

How much do you make only from acting? by Nervous_Return_9633  •  last post Sep 19th

Also, what kind of roles do you get and how many months of the year are you actually working as an actor?

We’ve opened a new theatre supporting grass-root artists! by JackGC01  •  last post Sep 19th

Hi everyone! My partner and I have opened a new black box theatre in South East London called The Pen Theatre. We opened in January and have already had a couple of amazing seasons filled with fringe theatre, stand up, spoken word, music, scratch nights and more. We’ve loved it, and so have the performers, writers and directors we’ve worked with. We promote process in theatre, so we have very affordable rehearsal rates (only £10 p/hour, the cheapest in London) and have hosted a lot of WIP shows and previews - some of which have gone on to do amazingly well in Edinburgh and Soho Theatre. Always looking to meet lovely people so please feel free to check us out! www.thepentheatre.com (Genuinely trying to support actors and all things theatre related, and we really do want to help, not meaning this to be a promotional post)

Where can I find great (union) actors for my film? Do I just keep auditioning until I find someone good? by Xmod23  •  last post Sep 19th

Additionally they must be great at improv

I NEED HELP : I need some feedback about a event flyer I’m creating by isaachwjoseph  •  last post Sep 19th

I’m going to be doing a Q&A webinar this week and I’m currently working on my flyer. Everything is very last min. I’m having trouble figuring out my text to add to it. So I turn to anyone who is currently working or aspiring to be a working actor in model. If you are currently working what are three things that you WANT and three things that you NEED the most right now in your career? If you’re an aspiring actor or model and I were able to be able to help you with something, what would it be?

Research question? by coustco  •  last post Sep 19th

Actors hired to attend funerals, weddings or something similar, what are your stories?

Manager Q by birdwatcher3001  •  last post Sep 19th

I just met with a manager at a big named LA management company—which I was super lucky to get. I really liked them for their realism. This industry is tough, and I feel like so often people speak in grandiose terms of what “success” looks like, and they were very realistic when setting expectations. I jived with them, felt like okay this is a genuine person, and it seemed like they liked me as well. It was through a referral (an actor I had worked with actually reached out to the manager saying they should have a convo with me) so it wasn’t like they had seen me in anything yet. My question is at the end of the meeting, they asked for headshots, some recent self-tapes, and essentially a “let’s see what happens” attitude. No contract, no formal paperwork to fill out (although they did say to add them on AA). Is this standard for a larger management company? Has anyone had experience with an agency or management company doing what essentially feels like a trial run?

Paul Sinacore - SAG-AFTRA Says Boone Helm and B.E.K Are Not Union Productions by TheManwithaBlackHat  •  last post Sep 19th

I just got off the phone with SAG-AFTRA. Neither Boone (or Boone Helm) nor B.E.K are now or have ever been union productions. It's suggested -- especially with Actors Access posts -- that actors check with SAG first before prepping for an audition that is from an unknown CD or seems even slightly suspicious. It also doesn't help that Actors Access and its employees don't seem to give a crap about the integrity of listings (and yes, that includes you, "Chairman" Barnes).

Do you book with Self Tapes? by themixingminx  •  last post Sep 19th

Getting so discouraged!! Before COVID I was a *working*\-working actor and that was just my job: AEA and SAG-e, I was booked straight for 2 years out of school! I LOVED auditioning. I feel I do really well in the room. I'm mostly in theater, but do small to tiny roles in film and shitty TV. Since COVID? Nothing. I feel like I would've booked some of these jobs or at least gotten a callback had my self-tape been an in-person audition. Is anyone else booking WAY less since the big switch to self-tapes all around? Or is it just me? Wondering if I have lost all talent LOL I've probably sent in 100 tapes. I booked 1 indie film (non-union, cancelled due to COVID) 2 short films (one cancelled due to COVID, one cut my part before filming due to COVID rescheduling) and have had 2 Broadway callbacks (from live auditions, ofc because I never get callbacks from tapes), and 1 callback for a co-star on a non-union series (didn't book). \[I am booking cruise contracts, but that's about it and not really up my alley anymore\] And that's TWO years. Feeling super bummed recently, like no one even watches the tapes? I don't know - are you guys booking the same amount as you were before? Especially theater/broadway people: do you feel like you're still getting callbacks over tapes? Hate to say it, but I miss Pearl studios.... I think it might be that I'm auditioning for more TV/film now than I was before & I'm not really TV/film attractive so I'm experiencing more rejection? Ugh. I don't know. Anyone else? Were you able to fix it?

My boyfriend hates my acting classes by salacious_b_bread  •  last post Sep 18th

I’m not saying my boyfriend is right or wrong, I just want to tell someone about this because I feel like I can’t tell anyone I know in real life without hurting their feelings. He’s not an actor. We just moved in together a few months ago. Before we moved in, he seemed interested in what my classes were all about and talked about them positively. I go to acting classes twice a week, one online and another in person. He’s always complaining about how much time it takes away, how much money I’m spending, and about the traffic during the commute. (Ever since we moved in.) He’s also the type of person who thinks most guys flirt with me because of what happened with his exes. There’s this one guy in my class, about 60, who I had a zoom practice session with today. And my boyfriend was making faces the entire time at me. He always has something to say about him in particular. My teacher and classmates know he’s a respectable man. He and my boyfriend met once while he was dropping me off for class. He says things to me about him like “that old guy just wants to take this class to get some young pussy.” “That guy gives me the creeps” etc. He has said things about my other classmates too. Like how they’re fake. He doesn’t know them. He said he can tell because of “the sounds of fake valley girls congregating outside.” He acts like every nice person is fake except for his twin best friends he’s known since high school. He even has something to say about the people they hang out with, but he doesn’t say it to their face that they’re too nice and trusting and the people they hand out with give him bad vibes. He has as much love for the twins as he does for me but why won’t he tell it to their faces that he hates their friends like he does with me? One time he went through my phone behind my back and started going through my text messages. He found this one guy closer to his age who used to be in my class and he was saying how he thinks we were flirting and how he thinks I had “something special with him.” Then my boyfriend was asking me why I was in his car. It’s because I needed a ride home from class and my mom couldn’t pick me up. He’s still not convinced there was nothing romantic going on between me and my former classmate even though I told him multiple times there was not, to which he replied “whatever, that was before we were dating.” He thinks people I’ve met through acting are fake. He says he’s the only person being real with me when he talks about the reason I never get gigs. Maybe he’s right. He’s also said that of course my teachers are going to say I’m good when they’re getting paid to inflate my ego. They’re going to say I’m good so that I come back and spend more money on their classes. And he said he’s the only one being real with me even if the truth hurts. When I’m in my other class on zoom, he makes fun of those classmates and my teacher. “That guy from the south says um a lot he acts like he’s trying to be all charismatic.” “Your teacher acts like he’s on drugs.” (My teacher said if he’s all over the place it’s because he has ADHD. So does my boyfriend) “Fuck that guy.” “Those classes are for people who don’t have a job and lives with their parents just spending time practicing acting” He says I’m wasting my time and money on these “stupid classes.” He thinks if I was good enough to be an actor I’d already be getting gigs left and right. I’ve signed up for auditions online and so far I’ve never heard back from anyone and he knows this. I would like to submit myself to an agent but I have nothing to put on my resume besides my training, so that’s made it harder for me to get gigs probably. He knows the reasons I want to become an actor and he says maybe it’s time I start realizing it’s not for me. He acts like I haven’t taken into consideration about what he’s said which isn’t true because I have. He’s angry because he thinks I want to spend more time with my “stupid acting classmates” and not him. I care for him and I know he cares for me and he’s just saying these things because he wants the best for me. He’s not a very trusting person, so he doesn’t trust the people who I’ve known way longer than I’ve known him.

Do actors that are beginning their career get to say yes or no to roles? by gbaby32  •  last post Sep 18th

Or would they need to take any roles that come there way

How do voice actors manage to sound so younger than they really are? by Last-Development3399  •  last post Sep 18th

In animation, most young adult/teenage/children characters are actually voiced by adult voice actors. My question is: how do voice actors manage to sound so much younger than they really are? Guys like Josh Keaton, James Arnold Taylor and Yuri Lowenthal are in their 40s/50s but still manage to voice young kids convincingly. How do they do that?

Getting Auditions by Spyder828  •  last post Sep 18th

Hello everyone, I've been interested in acting for a while now. I've been busy with life, so pushed it on the back burner. I've always wondered how to get scripts sent to you, or where to send self audition tapes so I'm reaching out to reddit hoping for some answers! I've done a little investigating and this is what I found - \-getting an agency, but can I just go to one and pay them to send me things? I know some want past work/audition to join their team, but is there any you can pay or just getting scripts without needing an agency? idk I know times are not the same as before (2000's) when you would just see a flier, etc. \-getting subscriptions to BackStage, AA, etc. are these actually worth it? I have no issues investing in my future, I just heard these are a lot of student projects/nothing really serious. great ways to get some work but how can I get the legit scripts, etc. It's just interesting to me because I've seen some interviews were some actors/actresses explain they had no experience but have agents or ways scripts are sent to them. Just never understood from WHERE/HOW. Any help/tips/etc would be lovely. Thanks for your time!
