Take Ashton Kutcher, no matter what role he plays, you can recognize his voice. Is this a genetic block?
Hello guys and girls, I am an aspiring voice actor busting my chops while at college to on the side learn, practice, and audition for roles in this amazing craft. I have reached a point however, where people hear my work and say they really like it, however I’m being held back by the Blue Yeti’s unbelievable sensitivity picking up everything, not to mention a small hiss while I speak (there’s only so much I can sound proof my dorm). After research, I have discovered the Rode NT1. Fantastic for the price and famously quiet. I found a sweet bundle for it at my local shop with a shock mount, stand, headphones (they’d be extras), and focusrite solo interface for only $320! Do you guys think this is worth upgrading or should I invest elsewhere? Thank you so much.
Hi, im very new to acting and trying to discover my range as an actor. Inevitably I had to consider cultural background and race. All my life people have mistaken my ethnic background. Im from a south asian background but for whatever reason I dont look like ur typical south asian guy because people have genuinely mistaken me for being hispanic, south american, Caribbean, pacific islander, middle eastern / Mediterranean, North african, mixed and "lowkey light skin black". Now this makes fun conversation full of funny moments but as an actor does this mean I can 'act' as a character from that list? There is a big controversy regarding this obviously and I want to remain respectful and I recognize how having John Wayne as Genghis Khan can be very weird and possibly offensive and how Scarlet Johansson acting as a character that was originally Japanese can be looked down upon as well. Should I just remain in my lane and be different versions of a south asian character?
I hope this question is pretty straightforward. I have read from sources other than the SAG website that SAG shorts do NOT grant eligibility to join the union. However, I don't see anything on this [SAG website page](https://www.sagaftra.org/membership-benefits/steps-join) to suggest this. Just that I need to work one day on a SAG production in a principal role. Which is correct? I just booked a day player role on a SAG short that will be shooting soon. If it helps, the Actors Access breakdown didn't specify "SAG Short Project Agreement," just that it's a short, SAG-AFTRA, and usage is for festivals. I know that Short Project Agreements don't get Taft-Hartley'd, but I don't know if it has to say SPA on the breakdown. I'm getting paperwork soon so hopefully that will help clear things up.
Just wondering for actors/actresses, does head size matter? I am self conscious because I was recently randomly told my head is small ( I wear size 7 1/8-3/8 hats for reference. ) I never thought about it ever, but now that it was mentioned I have become a little obsessed with it, and It does seem famous actors do have heads on the bigger end of the spectrum, guys like bryan cranston, alec baldwin, dustin hoffman, denzel washington, tom cruise etc seem to have huge heads. Any thoughts?
I posted this on r/askreddit but that's not the right place so it got removed. Sorry if I don't format this right this is like my 4th post I was interested in this new line of work but as the title suggests... I am monotone! My question was if you ever heard of a successful voice actor being monotone? I tried research but haven't really gotten anywhere. In my mind it might be a desirable niche like "scary/badass" or "Friendly/bubbly" Any input at all is appreciated.
I was on a film set yesterday as a non-union background actress - and one of the guys I was paired with in the scene would touch me repeatedly during each take in a way that made me extremely uncomfortable for most of the 15-hour shoot. On my legs, on my back, and in between takes would repeatedly brush up against me and push himself into me in a way that may have felt accidental at first but kept happening repeatedly until I became conscious of it. Perhaps because I didn’t want to make a scene (pun not intended) or because of my own lack of self-assertion, I decided not to say anything in the moment, but it’s still bothering me. Any advice on what to do here?
I got my first break earlier this year on a pretty awesome well-known show but my actress friends ahead of me on the ladder have mentioned a few times they have been told to 'act dumber' in interviews, etc. I write plays as well as pilots and I love seeing smart women out there - is this true or is this BS? Look, I'll never play dumb but I really want to know if you've ever been told this because it makes me really mad.
Just found out about this! The Actor’s Gang was founded in the 80’s by Tim Robbins and the training focuses on commedia dell'arte and mask work, and I am so fucking excited! As a random side note, this is where Jack Black and Kyle Gass met as young actors haha. The theatre and class is in Culver City and the space is incredible, a building known as the Ivy Subsation built in 1907 that used to be a part of the Los Angeles railway system. Does anyone anyone have any experience with this theatre, course, or technique? Even not so great ones? Ok, gonna go pass out now from excitement!✌️
Hi, I did some looking around and couldn't find any threads related to this so hopefully I'm not asking a question that gets asked a million times. I've done some background extra/featured extra work for some hollywood/indie/short films and a commercial or two. Ideally speaking, I'd love to do acting at a greater capacity than just background, but without formal training, I imagine this is not really possible without a huge stroke of luck one day. Anyway, I just sort of look on craigslist and have an extras/actors access account that I search every once in a while and sometimes get picked up for. Lately, I've been wanting to do this more often but have no formal acting training in my adult life (tried for this in my early childhood but that was like 20 years ago so not relevant). Do I need or should I get headshots taken to be picked up for more productions? Or since I only do background, does it not matter for me?
That is the question. Seriously, something I read while googling help in regards to emailing cover letters said: *Do not attach anything of yours.* (headshots, videos etc.) Why? It’ll go to spam apparently. And it was a damn good point. Instead they suggested linking material. That’s the ONLY site so far that I’ve read that says such a thing. Am I better off linking my just barely complete actors access resume link, or my complete Backstage profile? What have y’all done when you’ve sent these out? Cover letters drive me mad!
I love reading plays and I've been reading a lot but I'm not finding the type of scene that I would currently like to explore as an actor. I would specifically love to do an M/F scene (though I suppose it could be a F/F) that involves the female being romantically desperate and vulnerable (maybe even drunk) to the male and ultimately being shut down. Kind of like the last scene from "Days of wine and roses" (...but better). Anyone have any ideas?
I received a follow up email after submitting my portfolio. See email below, idk to me it screams scam. Hi - I received your e-mail. Please read everything before you reply. I would like to make an appointment to talk to you over the phone sometime Tuesday through Thursday between the hours of 3:00-5:00 PM. When would be good for you? We will talk for about 10 minutes. I am extremely busy so I have an explanation about “How GMT Works” already written out and so after we talk if we both think that we would like to try to make money together on a freelance basis then I will e-mail you a more detailed explanation. What is your phone number? NOTE: I am only interested in Models/Actors that are available across the board on a freelance basis. You should be someone that would only sign with and Agent/Manager after they made you a significant amount of money and would prefer to FREELANCE until then. If you are signed exclusively with an Agent or Manager then that would be a problem. You have to be available on a freelance basis. I mainly use www.castingnetworks.com to submit the Actors and Models that are on my roster for castings. I do not work on small jobs or extra work. I also receive castings from my Clients directly to my e-mail because I have been doing this for so many years. So anything that is posted on www.castingnetworks.com that would pay $500.00 per day and up I will consider working on but I prefer $1,000.00 and up. Note: Agents and Managers receive castings from the Casting Directors that you do not receive. You have to live within at least about a 1-2 hour commute to the NYC area so that you can go to a casting. (Even it is snowing etc) Please be a kind and considerate person and make absolutely sure that you are interested in possible representation with GMT. Please do all the HOMEWORK AND RESEARCH that you need to do before we talk. There Are 100’s and 100’s of Models and Actors that would like to be represented by GMT and if you are not sure then please be kind and let me help them. I do not want to waste your valuable time and I especially do not want to waste my valuable time. I WOULD RATHER BE HELPING SOMEONE ELSE. If you are not absolutely sure that you are interested then please simply reply and tell me that you are not sure at this time and if you are interested in the future then you can submit yourself again (That would be perfectly OK) and much better than wasting time. I am contacting you because from the material that you sent me I think that I could possibly submit you for castings but we would have to discuss more. I am at the “Top of My Game” now so if you are ready then let’s talk. Recent Bookings for Talent like you: Pizza Hut Commercial-Paid $4,000.00 with possible upgrades. NJ Lotto Commercial-Paid $1,200.00 And many more. This is just a quick idea for you. Thank you Rick Gonzalez/GMT Gonzalez Model & Talent Management
One of my personal heroes and favorite voice actors, he was a really nice guy. So happy I got to meet him!
Are roles that specify heights for the characters still mostly to keep the male actors taller than the females? Or is there some other reason in play? It just seems weird in the 2000s for height between sexes to still be a thing, when there are plenty of short men who are very manly and plenty of tall women who are very feminine and neither seems less so if they start dating each other. Height restrictions aren't in most things I see -- but I see it enough that I wondered.
As a male actor recently getting into Shakespeare, what roles could I play as someone who is 6'6"?
