Anyone Been a Standardized Patient Actor? by LoneWolfBrian  •  last post Mar 28th

I just got an email about an opportunity to be a standardized patient actor at a local medical school for a couple days. Pay is $25/hour for 4 1/2 hours at a time. It’s tempting, but I really have little idea what to expect. Anyone have experience being one of these “patient actors”?

Is it a bad time to be a white male actor? by express_sushi49  •  last post Mar 28th

- I've been told by so many teachers, coaches and professionals now that it really is. - Diversity is in, but even more so because it's making up for the lost time of the last 2 decades. - Of the last 18 "congratulations on your role booking" instagram posts from one of my coaches, only one of those bookings is a white guy. - I literally just finished speaking with my black friend a minute ago who has gotten 11 auditions from his agency/casting directors in the last month, where I've gotten one. We both are the same age, have 0 professional bookings, but I have vastly more acting experience. This isn't me complaining, I just want to hear a cold truth or opinions on it. Is it me? It is my agency? Why does it seem like being a white guy is actively holding my career back from even growing right now?

Headshot-Age Range-Character Type Post - Mar 28 by AutoModerator  •  last post Mar 28th

Use this thread to post your headshots for feedback, get info on your age range/type, find good headshot photographers, ask any questions you may have about headshots. If you are posting a DIY headshot for feedback, and not just a snapshot in order to get feedback on your age range/type/etc, it is advised that you do at least some basic research on what actor headshots look like--composition, framing, lighting. You will find a Google Image search for "actor headshots" to be very helpful for this. For what it's worth, the branding workshop at SAG-AFTRA recommends a five-year age range. That's inclusive, so for example 19-23, 25-29, 34-38, etc.

Does anybody know these actors who booked pilots? by WinonaPortman  •  last post Mar 28th

I'm doing a survey on the backgrounds of young adult actors who booked pilots and straight-to-series orders again this year and as usual, there are a few that I can't find much about. With most of them, I'm defaulting to "Began Careers with High School Education or Foreign Equivalent" based on their approximate ages when they got their first credits, but please let me know if you know or know of them and know there is more or you know who they have studied with. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------- Toby Sandeman - Series regular - New York Undercover - Brit. Former model and gold medal track athlete. Trained at an undisclosed two-year Meisner-based conservatory. (Which conservatory?) Anna Enger - Series regular - New York Undercover - Studied Communications at an undisclosed college. Attended high school at the Savannah Arts Academy and has studied with Robert Mello in Atlanta. (Which college?) Katie Findlay - Lead - Heart of Life - Canadian. Eve Harlow - Series regular - neXT - Canadian. Amalia Holm - Series regular - Motherland: Fort Salem - Swedish. Hayley Magnus - Lead - Like Magic - Aussie. Alvina August - Series regular - CW Nancy Drew drama - Canadian. Steven Silver - Series regular - Council of Dads - Moses Storm - Series regular - Sunnyside - Standup comic and performer at UCB. (Stage name?) Daniel Zovatto - Lead - Penny Dreadful: City of Angels - Costa Rican.

How do I ask an actor to reshoot all her scenes? by barneyalfred  •  last post Mar 27th

So I recently filmed something with an actress, it was a fairly guerrilla filming that had us jumping around on public buses so I admittedly rushed shots. I'm now looking back on her scenes and regretting that I didn't spend more time fleshing out her performance. It's not that she was bad, but that she brought a fairly dramatic performance to what's supposed to be comedic. When her performance comes up in the edit, it makes for a really awkward change in tone. Her scene is a necessary plot point, so it's something I can't edit out either. I don't want to risk offending her by basically saying 'I'm not happy with everything you did' as she is doing this as volunteer thing (we're part of a filming community). But I'm confident if we give it another go, I can really zone in on my issues and bring a more comedic performance out of her. All well and good to ask for a second chance but it's not exactly a reassuring thing when a director basically says 'Last time I fucked up, but we'll get it this time, definitely, yeah...' I'm aware that not all actors are the same, but as actors, what's a respectable way to ask this without offending or causing her to lose confidence in me?

Temp Agencies in LA by EFC94  •  last post Mar 27th

Are there any actors on here who live in LA that use a specific Temp Agency for their day job? I understand it's quiet a common approach for actors in LA as an alternative to waiting on/bar-tending. How hard are positions to come by with temp agencies? how flexible are they for auditions/classes etc. ? Any stories or experiences people would be willing to share about this would be really helpful to me in planning my move out to LA. I have a BA and MA in Media & Communications and Film and Creative writing, so any office placements that involve writing wouldn't be an issue for me.

Can I join a drama club at College in USA as a foreign students? by khuongho  •  last post Mar 27th

Greetings to all my aspiring friends! I am a student from Vietnam ( English is a second laguage ) who comes to the US to study. My major right now is statistics. However, I have deep passion for acting and theatre in general because my father is an actor. As much as I would want to engage in drama club, I am so doubtful about my English Speaking skills. My reading and listening skills are good. But the level of speaking skill is just average. I can hold conversations, discuss with fellow students and professors, even doing some presentations ( not so fluent though ). That being said, drama is an art where speaking skills are crucial. I am thinking about whether I would be able to make it? Any tips, ideas or success stories is greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hear from you all!!

SF actors - where do you typically find your opportunities? Currently casting a commercial in SF, looking for places to post the casting. by JDMcompliant  •  last post Mar 27th

Why would a cd send 4 different scripts? by Livelordx_lol  •  last post Mar 27th

Hello everybody! Excuse my naivete, I'm a fairly young actor and I've recently got an invitation to send an eco cast audition. In the eco cast, I was sent 4 different scanned scripts all for the same character I'm auditioning for. In my audition tape, do I read all 4 scripts? Create 4 different videos for the 4 different scripts? Or do I just pick a script and send in that audition. Thank you everybody!

Advice needed for weird audition by madz43211  •  last post Mar 27th

I am auditioning for a role in a small short film. When I messaged the girl who posted the casting call and told her about some of my experience, she told me she would love for me to audition for the lead female role. However, when I got the audition scripts today they are all male scenes! We are supposed to choose two of the three scenes they gave us to audition with, and all three scenes have only male actors. How can I effectively audition using these lines when I can’t portray how I would be in the female role?

For those in Oklahoma or Texas (or further) looking for an agent... by PretendPerson12345  •  last post Mar 27th

The Boysen Agency will be holding open auditions in Norman, Oklahoma on April 11th. If you are an actor or model looking for representation, send them an email to meet! [office@boysentalent.com](mailto:office@boysentalent.com) This is a boutique agency that has mainly been operating in Houston and Austin, but is expanding to pick up clients and more opportunities in Oklahoma City and Dallas/Fort Worth areas. Since it is middle-America, most of the jobs available locally will be commercial. But there are theatrical opportunities as well. You will have more theatrical options depending on your experience and if you are willing to travel. More about the agency can also be found on IMDB, Instagram, Facebook, and their website.

Help help help... UK Drama school Drama by Mowohwow  •  last post Mar 27th

So, I’ve been given a place with Identity School of Acting but it’s and unaccredited course i.e. I won’t be able to apply for spotlight after I finish. However, they do have their own agency and have had some very successful actors come out of their school. The dilemma is: I currently already train part time at a Meisner school and they are about to get accreditation for their two year programme in which I have completed two terms of. Ideally, I’d like to do both but money is an issue (as it always is). To the actors out there: do you think I should take the opportunity with Identity or take a longer route and stick with the Meisner school I’m at right now? Thanks!!

I want to voice act, where do I start? by PKjiji  •  last post Mar 27th

I've always had an interest in voice actors, even when I was a kid. I'm constantly talking in other voices, even when nobody's around. My friends and other people I know are often impressed with the job I do. Hell, someone even asked if I was interested in joining a voice acting project, after reading a through a couple scripts in an acting group with him. Of course this is exciting, as voice acting has always been a deep passion of mine. I'm currently a student, with a deep voice for my age. But, where do I start? I've heard that most voice actors start out on small projects for free, and I'm completely fine with that, if that's the best option. But obviously, before that, what do I need?

Stuck on how to move forward by Tantallus  •  last post Mar 27th

I moved to LA a year ago after getting my degree in acting and training for several years, and quickly got signed by an agent. I've been submitting myself to everything on Actors Access with little luck, and I have not had any bites from my agent lately either. I'm doing a lot of background work, absorbing all the information I can like an sponge, while also trying to get SAG Vouchers to atleast become sag eligible. I feel stuck in a rut, where I just cant seem to generate any auditions for myself. I JUST got new headshots, so hopefully that helps, but does anyone have any advice on generating more auditions, or where to find them?

NYC actors- teacher help by straysheep346  •  last post Mar 27th

Does anyone know an on camera coach as knowledgeable about style and audition expectations as Ted Sluberski who is a little more positive with their students?

Just got cast in my college stage production! by Xeonith  •  last post Mar 26th

I'm a full-time theater student in LA, so even for unpaid student work the competition is fierce and there were a ton of auditioning actors, about half of whom aren't students. This is a huge thing for me, so wish me luck!

Fellow thespians: small &/or large, short &/or tall, young &/or old, one & all...In search of— by lukey_tukes  •  last post Mar 26th

—sage advice in regards to accents and dialects (personal technique &/or tips/tricks). I am a young actor from New Orleans, Louisiana...I’ve been acting for a little under 20 years, since I was a child. Not that is of any importance, but suffice it to say, most American dialects are not any issue for me to eventually ascertain for performance. That being said, I’m not quite as confident when it comes to portraying the vocal stylings of our comrades across the Atlantic (no, not the Ruskies...the Brits). Don’t misconstrue what I’m saying here, I’m not clueless when it comes to playing a character from Britain; I actually have more than once, and gotten a kick out of it each time without slandering the vocal portrayal. Nevertheless, I’d still like to improve my ear for the British tongue(s) and in turn, effective/eloquent-ly deliver convincing speech to a person who naturally shares that dialect in which the speech was delivered. An example might be...an accurate, & solid-enough cockney, to that of an ear belonging to a real-life fella from the East-End (& yes...I totally googled that to avoid offending, hopefully; attempting to NOT commit the dreadful act of pairing an accent with an incorrect place of origin). Any-who, I never-ever want to be the actor who cannot manage such a fun asset to a character, such as the accent. The idea is to plainly achieve some semblance of ability (however minute) to speak in a certain manner, thus allowing me to be slightly more prepared for whatever future challenge(s) are thrown my way next time, I suppose. I enjoy challenging myself with each role I undertake; I usually find one (challenge), rather easily, no matter the role. I believe as actors, and as artists in a broader sense, long as we allow ourselves—we can never stop learning and because of that—we can consistently better our craft and ourselves beyond, through application of different, respective ideals & ideologies. Please refrain from any comment attempting to direct my focus towards any subjectively ‘important’ aspect of our art, as this is far from the first concern I’ve had, and impossibly the last. So, whatever you might assume that I may be missing in my acting based off of this little anecdote, don’t sweat it because I’ll get to whatever’s itching you at some point, if I haven’t itched it myself, already. Thanks for the support, though. Once again, this is simply something I’ve pondered upon occasion and I’ve decided to finally pose this as a fairly generally, broad question to this collective consciousness of like-minded artists...not exactly assured, but I’m hopeful, to inch closer to a potential answer to one of the many questions I pose to myself on a daily basis. I completely acknowledge & accept that, if not for the lack of trying, I may never achieve most, if any of these answers...but I can damn sure try, and enjoy myself, too. ~~A student of Tortsov, just like you~~

Headshot Feedback/Type by brodiewilko  •  last post Mar 26th

As an unexperienced beginner, I'm trying to get my 'Actors Toolkit' (Headshot, Showreel, Resume) together so I can start self-submitting for projects and reach out to agents, but have neither the funds or the access to reputable headshot photographers where I live. So I decided to take my own using what I've put together as my self-tape set up to take some headshots and then edited them a little. Would love any tips on the shot and any type insights! https://i.redd.it/p664tvzl6go21.jpg

BF (40) kicking off at me, F (22) over Netflix role by mrmorse96  •  last post Mar 26th

First post. So for context, I'm a professional actress based in the UK. I get seen regularly for pretty decent projects, with Netflix, and shooting for SKY at the moment. I'm in an age gap relationship, he also works in the industry, in independent film. My agent just sent me through a really exciting project, shooting in Spain, for Netflix, but playing quite a sexual character. I got the stuff sent through for my selftape, bound through to the boyfriend to tell him how exciting this project is, the director is bafta award-winning, shooting in spain in a few weeks, and go on about the role, this super sexualised madame, who at one point as sex on stage. Now this is the o*nly* context I have from the brief, I haven't been sent the full series. Anyway, I doddle off, he's editing a music video, and is having a stressful time with it. I come back through to ask him how he's getting on and offer to go to Scotland for him to shoot some stuff whilst his hands are tied with this edit and a nature documentary he's making. Then out of nowhere, he starts having a dig at me for apparently being all exciting about "having sex on stage" "squirming on screen" for this tv series, and the sex stuff seemed to be the only stuff I was interested in! NOW, first of all A) I have a baby face, and never get seen for adult or sexy roles like this, its just not my casting so I thought it was hilarious and absurd that a casting director would see my head shot and see me for this role B) From the brief look I had the script and the character description, it was heavily focused on this character's nymph like personality C) In real life, I am actually pretty prudish, he knows this, and hate PDA D) I was excited about the job! The opportunity! To maybe, if I got the chance, demonstrate my versatility as a character actor He kept going on and on and on, making it sound like I (not the *character*) was seriously interested in all of this sex stuff or something and bragging or rubbing it in his face or something. And at first, I tried to be understanding, and see where he was coming from, maybe I should have took a second to think about what I was actually speaking about with my partner, but for me, its my job, I'm a fucking actress, I have a right to be excited about opportunities that come through, he is in the arts, a director, and should fucking understand that **ITS NOT REAL**! Its fucking **ACTING**. I don't appreciate being made to feel uncomfortable or guilty when approaching this role for audition! I usually selftape with him, and now I'm probs going to find someone else to tape with because I'm worried he's going to be obviously in a mood when/if we do it...Guys, I like totally lost my shit after he kept on making me out to be something that I'm not, and ended up standing up in anger screaming, "HOW FUCKING DARE YOU! HOW DARE YOU!" and storming off... I was shaking afterwards. So upset. Am I wrong? Am I being a bitch? I feel like I've handled it terribly, but I'm really offended that he feels like I would do something or be excited about something that I thought would have pissed his off or made him out to be a mug. I love him, would never even dream of anyone else.
