What is getting an acting job like? by Zerreitug101  •  last post Jan 21st

I’m currently working on a new movie script, which involves an up and coming actor getting a huge part in an upcoming big budget movie. I have no experience in that field, so I wanted to ask what is it like landing an important acting job? What was your reaction, who contacts you to tell you, and any other small details? Thank you guys.

Greetings r/acting! by knightworth_manor  •  last post Jan 21st

Ever since I was little I have known that acting is my true passion. I will do whatever it takes to make it in the world of cinematography as an actor. My question is: Where should I study acting? I could definitely use some help on that. I want to study somewhere in Europe (I am aware of the competition) What are some good universities/conservatoires where the competition is not that tight and I might actually have a real chance of being accepted? (My dream would be to study at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland but I assume that we all know how tight the competition is there.) **Thank you in advance for your help!** *- Andrew*

Anyone with experience doing video game work in Seattle/Redmond? by Brandt-son-of-Thora  •  last post Jan 20th

Moving to the Seattle area on a few months and would like any and all pointers for getting in VO work for the various game companies there. Any particular resources y'all would recommend? Specific talent agencies I should shoot for? Or particular websites I should be looking at? I'm just assuming a lot of the VO stuff is done in house, with local actors, but please correct me if I'm wrong!

Bad Audition Experience, Help! by cutieinadeathcab  •  last post Jan 20th

Today I had an audition that I was really excited about as the director is a director that directed one of my University shows and we had a great working relationship. After I got my audition confirmation email, they sent two sides. The first side they said was optional because it required juggling a soccer ball on your knees while chanting a song and said it was COMPLETELY OPTIONAL and intended for those with exceptional soccer skills, of which I have not. The second side was for a middle aged soccer mom (40-55) but did not specify the age of the actress who was to play her. Now I'm 30, but I've played older on stage before (Grandmother and a mom in one of my shows this year, who this specific director directed me in) so I thought, hey I'll give it a go. I figured not waste their time doing the optional soccer one and stick to something I know well, playing mature characters. I go into the audition and absolutely nail my contemporary monologue which was a teenage monologue. They complimented it and said it was a really good choice. I then sat down and talked about the play with the director and the characters I was interested in and why (but I forgot to mention soccer mom). Everything was going great and then they asked me if I had the sides prepared and I sheepishly said that I didn't prepare the soccer ball one but I prepared soccer mom. They looked shocked, kind of bit their lip and said"...interesting". I felt that at this point I was wasting their time and she said reluctantly "...,well I guess let's see it". I did what I thought was a good job, but their reaction made me so uncomfortable. I did a cold read afterwards but my confidence was so down that I missed the last page and some of the most crucial lines. THE WORST PART was my other classmates were auditioning hours after me asked how it went and I told them and they were like "OH I GUESS I BETTER PREPARE THAT SIDE THEN". They were going to do the same thing as me and not do it but I threw one in for the team I guess. I just feel really down because I was very prepared otherwise, read the play inside out, and there was no age specification of the actress to play soccer mom. Did I blow my chances? What are some of your audition horror stories?

Have any of you submitted or had correspondence from an agency that says no unsolicited submissions? by FajitaChickenBurito  •  last post Jan 20th

Hey guys! Random story but I follow a tier 1 Hollywood agent on Instagram who just so happened to reply to my DM. I followed up with some info about myself, how I have an agent in my country and was wondering about any info they might have in submitting to them. The thing is they’re quite a big agent and have A listers on their books. They definitely saw my message however and I’m thinking of sending through an follow email with a bit more detail e.g (headshot + my agency profile). I’m not even looking for representation more like a query in what they think would be a good stepping stone to get to them. They do have some unknown actors on their books as well.

Actors academy? by shujah09  •  last post Jan 20th

Anyone seen that actors academy guy on YouTube? He claims to be a really professional Instructor and some of his videos are useful. Was thinking of trying out his 10 hours masterclass but wanted to know if it's worth it.

Can I honestly become an actress if I’m shy? by Username0838  •  last post Jan 20th

Can I make it as an actor? by Clean-Youth  •  last post Jan 20th

Little bit about myself: young guy from Europe, studying computer science in college, and had a couple months of acting classes in the past. I've did some acting for group projects besides the acting classes (making videos explaining our project, I'm always the one doing that), love to present for large crowds, and people always find it fun and entertaining to watch me if I'm in a video. Now, I genuinely love acting and all the attention that I get from it and while doing (might sound selfish, but that's the truth). My question is, can I just go out and start to audition for simple roles without having taken acting classes for a couple of years now? I honestly think that I'm at least decent, so I want to try it, and eventually maybe make to the big screen besides my study (which I also thoroughly enjoy). How does one go over launching a (lucrative) acting career? Do you take a lot of small roles and hope to one day get asked for a big one? Maybe it's important to note, but I'm good looking, at least above average. Edit: should I make an Instagram? I have the opportunity to audition for a couple of unpaid roles which will be seen by a lot of people, is it handy to have one to build a following? Should I just post about my day to day life then, film related stuff or a combination of both?

Voice Actor Brice Armstrong Passes Away at 84 by realplayer16  •  last post Jan 20th

Why do actors who are not as talented as other actors blow up? by Expert-Butterscotch  •  last post Jan 19th

I’ve seen this a lot and honestly it feels like a slap in the face. Especially because people always give the notion that all you have to do is work hard.

A podcast about voice actors and their stories by yunebug  •  last post Jan 19th

TL;DR - I created a podcast about voice actors and their stories. It's paid. I think we all have our stories to share and learn a thing or two. I'd love to have you on the show. Link below. Hi everyone! One thing I've always enjoyed about this industry has been the people - the helpful, kind, and supportive ones that I've had the fortune to meet and to work with over the last three years. And it got me thinking - there's gotta be many, many voice actors around the world with interesting stories to tell - about their lives, about how they got started. There are many podcasts out there about the voice acting world - from the established and famous who offer helpful advice and stories, to podcasts focusing on the business side - but I wanted to tell the stories of the voice actors who are working - working hard to get where they want to go. So I created a podcast - Voice Actor Showcase. [https://www.voiceactorshowcase.com](https://www.voiceactorshowcase.com) \- available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. @ VoiceActorShow on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. I pay the voice actors - $50 for now (sorry) - and each episode is a short performance by the voice actor followed by an interview about her/him as a person and as a voice actor, as well as the experience of walking this path that we're all on. This $50 could be extra change that pays for a nice dinner for two (or a bottle of whiskey), or a much needed supplement to their income this month. This is the point - we're all in different places in our journeys. My hope is to create an outlet where we can hear each others' stories. I think we have a wonderful community here on reddit - and I love reading the posts here - but I wanted something to listen to in the car, or walking my dog, or etc. So far, two episodes are up, third one is in queue for Friday, and I have six more in production currently - and the stories and the people have been absolutely wonderful and interesting. I really would love to share this with you folks. I will state it here and now - I do not plan on making any profit with this podcast. I'd love sponsors and other people/entities who are willing to financially support the show, and if such event occurs, it'll go straight to operating costs as well as paying the voice actors a higher fee. PROMISE. And I welcome any and all voice actors who are willing to share their stories. Looking forward to hearing from you. Sorry about the novel - I'm an over-sharer. Thanks for listening (reading).

Are talent agencies likely to sign with someone with little to no experience? by spn121  •  last post Jan 19th

This is just for my pure curiosity. I stumbled upon the wiki page of Emma Mackey, the girl that plays Maeve in Sex Education. It says there that she studied English at Uni of Leeds, where she also appeared in a few stage productions, and that’s about it. Afterwards she just moved to London and signed with the Curtis Brown Agency. Since she didn’t go to drama school/appear in anything significant before Sex Education, may Curtis Brown or any other agencies take actors with little to no experience? Thank you:)

I’m sick—what do I do? by legendofpokki  •  last post Jan 19th

Being sick **sucks**, and I think we all know that. I’m definitely not a professional voice actor or anything, but a croaky voice, sore throat, and persistent cough have been essentially blocking me from doing what I love. I’m wondering what I can do to keep my voice healthy so that when I fully recover I’ll immediately be available for recording? Any advice is appreciated!

I want to become an actor by LostWitss  •  last post Jan 18th

Hello, so this is my first post on Reddit. I want to become an actor, my passion has been to make people feel emotions and really push those feelings. Problem is, I'm a tall chubby 19 year old guy. I'm broke and barely holding on. I want to make my dreams a reality and I have no clue where to start, I am so lost. Can anyone help me?

I'm giving away my first XLR mic kit! by LukeLC  •  last post Jan 18th

Greetings, aspiring voice actors! I see a lot of questions on subs like this asking about beginner mic setups, which typically involve something USB. While USB mics have come a long way, the reality is you will instantly lose a lot of credibility with one. XLR is what you want. Not only do they produce a more authentic sound, but they'll introduce you to other aspects of audio production that will serve you well as you advance. Also, you might be surprised at how affordable an XLR setup can be. Case in point, my first XLR setup was hardly pricey, but it did the job. Now I'm moving soon, and rather than find a way to pack it along with me, I decided it'd be better to put it in the hands of someone who can use it! # Witness for yourself: https://preview.redd.it/d9d8uroh3lb41.jpg?width=3210&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8ab609c70f0ace1e10f24c6babbb7484cf5419ec https://preview.redd.it/9vz6mwoh3lb41.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b28b13698c62f4ad22b08d3263314428b42a3225 What I'm giving away includes a **Neewer NW800**, **desktop stand**, **pop filter**, **48V phantom power supply**, **one XLR-to-XLR cable**, and **one XLR-to-3.5mm cable**. Again, I must stress that this is a **beginner** recording setup. To get the best quality out of this mic (or any XLR mic), you will want to upgrade to a proper audio interface at some point down the road. But that's not to say you won't get some mileage out of the kit as-is. [Here's an example of a trailer I voice acted](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-Ux8hNt8WQ) using this very mic. # How to participate: * To enter the giveaway, comment below and tell me a voice actor that inspired you! * When this post is 48 hours old, I'll use [random.org](https://random.org) to pick someone from the comments and send them a PM. * All I ask is that you pay for shipping (about $7). Send me your PayPal address and I'll create a proper transaction so everything is on the up-and-up. *(If the shipping fee is genuinely a problem for you, let me know and we'll work it out.)* * Participants should *probably* be from the US. If you're in, say, Canada, we can make it happen, but shipping fees will be higher. Good luck, and enjoy!

Waiting for an audition and dealing with the anticipation by web_head91  •  last post Jan 17th

Hello chums and fiends. I am a stage actor. I have two auditions scheduled for two days apart in a couple weeks. One is for a professional theater (equity), and one is community. I've been acting for a couple years now and so even though I'm not new to auditioning, I wanted to make a post about what I'm feeling. I think the hardest part of auditioning is the anticipation leading up to it. Once I'm in the room and actually doing it, some adrenaline kicks in, I'm excited, and it's a little scary but in a more manageable way. Sitting and waiting, though, is a pain. It's hard. I feel like I'm staving off waves of minor panic attacks 24/7. This is what I do: Each day, I practice my audition pieces. I go over them a few times, try different things, etc. Then, as I get ready for bed, I write down the lyrics to the songs I'm preparing, and will just kinda recite them in my head as I'm brushing my teeth and such. Then I try to run through them again, in my head, as I go through my morning routine. Then I usually sing them in the car on the way to work after doing some vocal warm ups. I feel like each day, I work on my auditions. But it is still daunting to think about, and it's hard to just carry the anxiety with me everywhere I go. I just wanted to put this out there and see if anyone has any tips. I'm sure for some of us here that are film actors with agents, who audition every few days, it's a different beast. As a theater actor who is trying to transition from community to equity/pro, I only audition maybe once or twice every three months or so. So it feels like a fresh process each time.

Question about acting résumé... by jbp22  •  last post Jan 17th

Hey! I'm an actor from Vancouver and have a question... On your resume, is it better to list all your training or only some? If a CD sees say... 9 different actor training workshops and schools but say... 6 film credits, will they think the amount of training is good or that the actor must not be that good if they have a bunch of training and only 6 credits and just pass them by? OR, is it something to not even think about? Thanks!!!
