Are actresses who play spies/Bond girls considered character actors? I saw "Femme Fatale" listed as a character actor type on Wiki...

Long rant! But I need help!! [ACTING] by DJamwal  •  last post Aug 4th

Okay guys, you need to tell me if you think I’m passionate about acting or not, because I’m so, so conflicted, and another person’s point of view would be really helpful. Please read the whole thing. I know it’s long, but I need all the advice I can get. So here goes: I’ve been watching Bollywood movies since I was a kid, and watching them made me realize that I wanted to be on a big screen like that and be a famous actor. So, I decided to observe the facial expressions and the character portrayal choices of the actors every time I watched a Bollywood movie in the hopes of doing well while playing similar characters as those actors. Slowly, I had begun to have questions like “How does an actor’s eyes have that emotional intensity?” or “How do actors have facial expressions that are so natural?” I searched for answers, and I finally found many videos that answered these questions and made acting so intriguing. After watching these videos, I felt ready to train hard to make it in Bollywood and do all kinds of projects to apply the techniques that I’ve learned in these videos, since the technique has made me want to try playing different characters. Now I can’t get acting out of my head! I’m considering studying to be a medical sonographer and keeping that career while auditioning for roles. Though I’m interested in playing different characters, I don’t know about a Bollywood career, because I don’t want to be unemployed on the streets of Mumbai in the worst case scenario. And after reading stories of other strugglers in Bollywood, doubts are getting to my head about whether I’m passionate about acting. Fame in Bollywood or earning enough money to live comfortable is my goal. I won’t settle for less. So I don’t know whether I’m passionate enough to try to become a Bollywood actor, since I’m afraid of not achieving my goal and afraid of living in poor conditions there. What do you guys think? Should I experiment with characters while having a stable job or risk it and try Bollywood? I’m torn, and need another’s opinion. Please let me know soon. Thanks!

Can you please advise me some sites or managers to help finding auditions? As a starting actor I already use couple websites But it seem that not many castiing and production companies use this site. So any advise would be helpful.

My Albert Wesker by thatonedrewguy  •  last post Aug 4th

It has always been my dream to be an actor -- especially in the genre of animation via voiceover. I was curious as to what people thought of this video I shot years ago for fun. I can do requests, I just want to make a splash somehow. Question about foreigner career in US by ionnny  •  last post Aug 4th

Hello everyone! The thought of getting into acting got into my head few weeks ago and i decided to give it a shot. But i can’t stop thinking about one thing. Can a European guy (Poland to be exact) can make a huge career in US? Of course US have biggest productions, most known actors etc. Everyone would like to work in LA/NYC. And i was thinking even if i would be a reaaaally great actor, my birthplace would matter a lot? I totally have no unwanted accent. I was exposed to American culture since i was like 11 and thank God to that my english sounds just fine. I’ve decided to take a language course to sound little bit more like a native speaker even tho i think its already pretty good. Well in that case, the main question is: will my ethnicity can be a barrier to become a international star when the language skills are really high level? What are your thoughts? I’ll be pleased to hear your thoughts.

From the Radio to the TV! by Aidan Harper  •  last post Aug 4th

It all started with the Rock It Real radio show that has been around for 8 years; hosted by Aidan Harper under his presenter name of DJ Squeek (Aidan was also the music journalist for Cape Times’ “Top Of The Times” for 10 years). He has interviewed the likes of Celine Dion, Graham Gouldman (10cc), Ed Kawalzyck (LIVE), John Lodge and Justin Hayward (Moody Blues), Gary Brooker (Procul Harum), Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden), Ian Hill (Judas Priest), Will Turpin (Collective Soul) and many more. The show was created as a platform that mainstream media lacks and it focused on real music giving exposure to new bands and discovering new SA rock music while at the same time bringing undiscovered SA rock to the forefront and showcasing bands that would usually be passed over by mainstream channels. It began as a pre-recorded show and then to a weekly live online broadcast. The shows have uploaded to the Mixcloud podcast platform (https://www.mixcloud.com/aidan-harper). Now… The radio show has evolved and we have assembled a quirky and fun production team to create an off-the-wall SA music TV show. Most music and lifestyle TV shows are pretty much the same format: Rock It Real will be delving into the lighter and more unconventional side of music industry journalism. In order to achieve this, Rock It Real’s TV show will be targeting the ‘funtrovert’ side of its audience using visually dynamic and exciting content while still giving valuable information and playing seriously good South African rock music. The show will air online for starters. As the Rock It Real team has been an integral part of this scene for so long, it understands the musicians, the fans and the industry so it won’t be your normal run-of –the-mill music TV programme. In order to be able to do this, the Rock It Real TV team needs funding for production and some operational items. Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=22053152

Tips for a shy 16 year by Sddog12  •  last post Aug 4th

Hello. I never wanted to become an actor nor I've never thought about it but I kind of want to get into acting, see what it's all about. I'm super shy tho, like very shy. There are some actors I really admire and look up too. What are your tips and things I should know? How should I overcome my shyness?

Need female VA interested in narrating semi-erotic short story. by usernameformeonly  •  last post Aug 4th

As the title says, I wrote a short story and am interested in having it recorded as a performance! It is not overtly sexual and panders to a pretty niche kink, so while not everyone is going to be up for it, some may even find it entertaining. The actress would largely perform as the story’s narrator, in addition to two female characters, one older and one younger and more timid. I don’t really know what is appropriate compensation for something like this, so I will discuss it with whoever reads the script, possibly auditions, and is interested in doing it. I look forward to hearing from some of you!

general tips for a 15 year old? by yeah-ok-retard  •  last post Aug 4th

Recently got my first job as a movie extra. just signed up for it to make some money and see how movies are filmed and i love it. Working 13-15 hours a day is obviously tiring but it’s still really fun and all the people i’ve met in this industry are amazing. Now I want to get in to actually acting/being a principal actor. Looking for just general tips that could help me out getting in to this. I know i’m gonna need some training for sure so i’m planning on taking video production and drama in school this year to start. I’m pretty shy because of anxiety but i know this is something i can eventually get over. I also live in a city with a big film industry so getting auditions shouldn’t be a huge problem. What things should i do to try and help myself get better st acting?

Managing sonography and acting—I need both! by DJamwal  •  last post Aug 4th

To help you feel better about any "bad" auditions you've had recently..... by iluye1  •  last post Aug 3rd

I am a professional (not consistently working, but you could say consistently auditioning) actor in LA, and for some reason, coming hot of the trails of several really good auditions in the past few weeks and a producer's session yesterday..... I went CONFIDENTLY in for a series reg audition today. I dropped an F-BOMB..... in a Disney audition. And then proceeded to dig the hole deeper and continued to make jokes, none of which were laughed at. You're welcome. We all have bad auditions, just keep your chin up, and share stories if you want because for FUCK sake I need 'em lmao.

I am not being accepted as an actress? by MaikaW  •  last post Aug 3rd

I feel... drained. I moved to LA and have ended up with no funds. My life is really lonely. I have been auditioning a lot. Didn't managed to get any part. People I know post on FB about all the projects they get and posing all together taking pictures. Yes, it makes me jealous! Being able to be closer to what I want. English is not my first language, they hear an accent and do not take me seriously. I tried to fix it, I cannot afford such classes now. Then regular acting classes did not help except a personal coach who I can rarely afford. I have been attending auditions from Backstage and such and have not booked anything. I attend film festivals, I talk to people, nobody approach me to give me a part. I have a friend who is surrounded by people in the industry and while he acts supportive, he never suggested me for anything. His friends are doing web series, table readings, etc. Then I decided to try and make my own project, so far no luck. Had like 25 people message me and I tried to meet and such and ended up ignoring or canceling. I tried, talked about my vision but since no role money is being handed to them, so they did not care much. Then I tried to gather some people from an older acting class, apparently they are too busy with other projects. I feel worthless. How am I gonna succeed?

Think I'm SAG-AFTRA eligible... but have no proof by tubulear  •  last post Aug 3rd

Hey all! Posting here as I'm in a difficult situation and am not sure what to do. I would really like to join the union and *think* I am eligible due to the fact that a few years ago, while working as an extra in a union TV show, I was "upgraded to principal" AKA given two lines of dialogue. [According to Backstage:](https://www.backstage.com/magazine/article/non-members-need-know-sag-aftra-58712/) >If you're working a background job (or as an extra in a commercial), it's sometimes possible to be upgraded to principal -- for instance, if you're directed to a line of dialogue. This is rare, but if it happens, not only do you get paid more, but it also makes you SAG-AFTRA eligible. I now realize this was a rare opportunity, but unfortunately at the time I didn't think much of it and have no record of my contract or original paycheck stubs, nor access to a payroll printout. Thinking back, I don't even remember them updating my contract or giving me a pay rise, although I'm pretty sure they should have... Is there someone from the production company I can write to to obtain one of these things? Has anyone been in a similar situation? Again, this was about 4 years ago, and the show has long gone off the air. Is there any chance at all that any official financial records still exist from that production?. It's frustrating, because I can prove that I have a copy of the episode and can prove that I had dialogue in a union production, but a rep SAG-AFTRA confirmed that they would only accept those three things (Original Paycheck Stubs, Performer Contract, or Payroll Printout) as proof. **\*\*Word of advise to young actors: save everything!\*\* :/**

How'd you get into Clear Talent, CESD, Eris Talent , Media Artists Group , Osbrink, DDO, Aqua? by strongmaya18  •  last post Aug 3rd

Hey all! Does anyone have experience or want to share their insights on how they got into these agencies. Or how to go about it if you want representation. I'm getting headshots with Steph G so at least my biggest marketing tool is at its best. I am training and creating my own heat. I know it's the kind of thing where they approach you, is the best. They also say network, but what examples of places could you recommend I start? If you got a story to tell on how you got in, I'd love to know how! This career is a journey, I want to make sure I'm not missing anything when it comes to busniess side of acting. Advice from one actor to another! Cheers :)

Stage name for foreign actors? by throwItInTheBin5298  •  last post Aug 3rd

Hi all, I’ve been thinking about this one quite a bit. I’m African, and while my name is easy to pronounce over here, if one day I was ever to go to the States and pursue acting with my studies, it’s destined to be mispronounced. I’m not against people mispronouncing my name in general, as I could always correct them; the problem comes when the audience and other people literally can pronounce my name cause of the culture difference. My surname isn’t hard to pronounce, it’s European (I think). My first name though is (or at least it is for westerners). I think if people could learn how to pronounce my name I wouldn’t have a problem, but what if they can’t and I end up being stuck with a name that doesn’t stick? Hence why I’m wondering about a stage name. In all honesty, I would prefer my real name, but if a stage name is the way to go to make my name stick in people’s heads then I’d go with that. Any suggestions? I’m a black man. If possible maybe the name could start with a V. My surname isn’t an issue, just the first. And I personally don’t think it’d be hard to learn my name. It’s nothing too complicated, it’s only four letters lol. My name is Vuyo. (I really can’t teach you how to pronounce it over reddit lol, but if you need to know I’ll try my best). My surname is Polson (pronounced, “Pole-sin”)

The Actors Academy YouTube by urbz808  •  last post Aug 3rd

Who is this guy? Also what are his qualifications? What has he been in to be allowed to scam ppl into paying $150 for acting sessions? I’ve never heard of him and he really thinks he’s doing something out here. Literally the last video he posted was about “Millie Bobby Brown’s Acting Advice” and they are just clips of interviews from other interviews. What in the scam is this bullshit? He doesn’t even give his name and that’s all you need to know how everything he’s doing is a scam jfc

My schools theatre program is trying to have more of a social media presence. by DownSyndromeTurtles  •  last post Aug 3rd

Hi, so I’m on my schools theatre board and we’ve decided to start having more of a social media presence to get more kids involved and more attention to our club. We’ve decided to do skit writing, interviews, and other fun little segments that we plan on posting to our Instagram. I’m not really expecting this to be the best when we first start, but I’m excited because it will be a way for all of us to build skills in our acting and script writing. What do you guys think? Have any ideas? Advice? I know I’m only a highschool actor and not really a professional, but if this doesn’t fit here I will remove :)
