Muslim actors (or actors with religious background) by Ahmed11105  •  last post Nov 11th

I come from a kind of strict Muslim household, my parents are devoted to the religion and hope that I keep my faith strong and things like that. With this, they respect a lot of the decisions I make and the future I have in mind. It took a while but eventually they were okay with the fact that I decided to pursue acting. That being said, since they are religious, they don’t want me to do things that are frowned upon in Islam, such as kissing/sex scenes, nudity, things like that, and I don’t have a problem with that at all, my faith is also somewhat strong enough for me to have at least ‘some’ of the same feelings that they do towards these things. However, one thing I noticed is that intimacy is a very common thing in western media, and almost every actor I’ve ever followed has had to do these things. When I saw Riz Ahmed’s intimate scene in ‘The night of’, I started questioning whether it’s possible for a Muslim actor to make it anywhere without taking part in a scene like this. I understand that the actor/actress can mention that they’re uncomfortable with a certain scene, but it honestly feels like a heavy burden and a punch in the face to the script writer, as well as everyone else involved with the project. I know that to a lot of people this isn’t a big deal, but it’s something I have to pay attention to because of my background and faith. It’s not as simple as “it’s just acting”. I guess my question is, how far can I make it if I don’t film those scenes? I know there’s a whole contract thing, so could I possibly be blackmailed into doing something I don’t want to?

Voice Actors Needed For Short Animatic!! XD by Iam_Human_YouToo  •  last post Nov 11th

Hey! First off here is the link to the animatic, \[ [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2ab9ZwEpQo&feature=youtu.be](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2ab9ZwEpQo&feature=youtu.be) \] it's not fully touched up yet (and ignore the quality i'm working with my animator to remedy that), but here it is for now. The biggest thing it needs now, is voice actors!!! There are 4 roles available. Two are of children boys (JAMES & ERIC), and the other two are elderly farmers (GEORGE & LENNY). Here below is a few lines from each. Feel free read some lines and send them to my email: [mrbearsproductions@gmail.com](mailto:mrbearsproductions@gmail.com) Thx!! If I'm interested i'll send you the whole script and we'll go from there, thx and have a great day! \*Also my first post was removed because I didn't post that it was paid. It is a paid gig. It is a low paid because it is a college project, but if you are looking for something to add to your reel and some quick money then send some lines :) Scene 1: EXT. STRAWBERRY FIELD - DAY The only thing our hero, HOPE, sees, is darkness. Only two kid’s (JAMES’ & ERIC’s) southern voices can be heard. JAMES Not ah! ERIC Ah huh JAMES Not ah! ERIC Ah huh JAMES Not ah! ERIC Ah huh JAMES You’re out of your wacko mind! I’ll bet you a whole .87 on it! All the kids are shocked. ERIC You bluffing! JAMES So you chickening out? I knew your belly was large, but I didn’t know it was yellow too. ERIC Fine you’re on, just don’t go crying to your mamma when I win. JAMES You’ll see, Eric! Scene 4: EXT. STRAWBERRY FIELDS - DAY Two elderly farmers, GEORGE and LENNY, are working out in the field. George walks by almost stepping on Hope. GEORGE Oh my... Lenny! Come take a look here. Lenny doesn’t respond. GEORGE Dammit, Lenny, i’m serious! This will be the craziest thing you’ll see all week, no year! Maybe life!... Lenny! LENNY Alright, alright i’m coming. What gots you all riled up over here, you finally find your... your...oh. GEORGE You ever seen any one quite as big? LENNY Since I first started walking as an earth-man? Never. They both stare at it in awe. LENNY Imagine how sweet and tasty it’s going to be. GEORGE God save your soul. We cannot eat that which was sent as a miracle from the father above! Wash those devilish thoughts out of your head before you grow a few horns yourself. We witnessing a biblical miracle here! LENNY Wow. Well sorry, I didn’t mean to offend. Just hungry. GEORGE Don’t apologize to me. Apologize to the mighty one. Lenny kneels down and begins muttering a prayer. GEORGE Truly incredible. This may be only the beginning, whose to say it is even fully grown. Maybe it’s still just a pup. Hell, maybe it’ll even talk to us like the firey bush did to Moses.

Feeling stuck, advice? by StarAndNight  •  last post Nov 10th

So yeah, I did not start acting when I was a kid, my parents never liked the idea and one of my teachers said I am at a disadvantage because agents care about teens or early 20s actors in order to develop them as they want. Now, my school brings agents and there is gonna be one in 2 weeks. The teacher says unless we have an IMDB with credits and a reel on it, we should not perform because the agent will not be interested. What is the point of performing in front of the agent then? I want to perform and want to find a way to impress them and hire me. I've done some work in another state but sadly they did not offer any IMDB credits. And any auditions around such as student films and such... They do not, either. So any ideas what to do?

STAGE ACTORS: I have over 100 lines to memorize in two weeks in first lead role. Please help by greenskreene  •  last post Nov 10th

I was just cast as Donna in Mamma Mia! (meryl streeps character lol) and im literally so excited. But the lines I have to memorize are freaking me out. me. I've played supporting characters before ( nehebka in aida, ursula in the little mermaid) but those characters had way less lines and didnt have to have big long conversations with other characters. I just feel like reading it over and over again isnt gonna work fast enough. Also the time crunch I'm under with all my other activities is really stressful, because I'm applying to colleges, taking ap classes, performing in a traveling show choir, working, and doing homework all during the same time. I'm not trying to sound like a "poor me, being a lead is so hard" type bitch, im literally very excited to play this role i just have anxiety lol. If anyone has any really good tips for memorizing lines quickly, please throw them my way!

Do Actors/Actresses Watch TV or Movies Often? by Krenzoooo  •  last post Nov 10th

I am an actor doing a lot of background work at the moment. I’m doing background work to get used to the cameras (mainly the cameras because I’m from a small town in Arizona and the cameras are normal to me anyways now) and all the different types of people that are going to be around me. I haven’t started auditioning yet only because of the reasons above so I’m going to be auditioning soon January of 2019. One question that runs through my mind is how many actors and actresses actually watch a lot of tv and movies because I barely watch any. I just usually don’t have the time. I only watch the shows that I’ve been on or am going to be on so I know how to act as background.

I WANT TO WORK by ShadyNero  •  last post Nov 10th

Okay this might be long winded. I moved here with no network and no family to attend the Esper Studio part time program and paying my way through it. I have done that. I graduated in Early June. It’s been about 5 and a half months since I graduated and I have headshots (that I’m told are quite good) I am on backstage and actors access and apply to things everyday. I hardly get response. When I do get response it’s for unpaid student films and to do background work. I do them but they don’t turn into anything ( 2 to be exact). They are usually what you would expect to be of a student film. I just don’t ever hear from anyone. I don’t even get a lot of auditions. I also have no reel footage so I get limited there as well. I just feel stuck. I dont get auditions or jobs. What would you all recommend? I hate writing like this is woe-is-me type post but I really love this work and it sucks being in a rut like this. Thanks!

Zuko Live Action Audition. Your Thoughts? by mwijdenbosch  •  last post Nov 9th

https://i.redd.it/5v5qooljfbx11.png [Zuko Live Action Audition Mike Wijdenbosch](https://reddit.com/link/9vkxf9/video/hg5i0c1hfbx11/player) Greetings fellow actors and Redditors, Though I am new to the platform -I need to pick up on a lot of reddiquette, so by all means call me out on any ignorance on my part- I would love to share with all of you my live-action take on the character of Zuko. In response to the news of the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender being produced by Netflix, this is a re-imagining of the scene where he speaks to the portrait of his mother before confronting his father on the day of the black sun. At the end of the video you will find a short introduction of me. As a professional actor and screenwriter/filmmaker I am curious to hear opinions on this video of other professionals and/or true fans of the original animated series. I would love to hear your thoughts on this interpretation. Cheers!

Need advice about whether to apply for acting school by peterhumm18  •  last post Nov 9th

Title says it all really, but I'll elaborate. I recently have started acting, as in I genuinely started 2-3 months. But I've had a ton of fun and gotten some really good feedback with basically no one believing me that I hadn't acted before. I tried out for a play at my college, and got a fairly major part in my second audition ever, and in addition to that most of the other actors were either acting or theatre majors. We just had our performance this past weekend and I honestly had an amazing time with it. I've pretty much made up my mind that this is something I want to pursue further than college and actually make a career out of. And here's my question: Should I try out, and if I get in, join my school's BFA Acting program? I'm only hesitant because if I joined this program I wouldn't be able to obtain an Economics degree from my college, which is what I had originally been planning. In addition, I'm not sure how relevant/necessary it would be for me to get a degree if I want to pursue acting as I've heard Hollywood types don't necessarily respect theatre performers/majors that audition. TLDR: Not sure whether to audition for my school's acting program because I feel like it could honestly be a waste of money compared to obtaining say an economics degree and then moving to LA or NY to act.

How do I know if I'm getting payed what I'm worth VS getting under-payed when it comes to VA? by SilasMacca  •  last post Nov 9th

I've been doing Voice Acting for a few years now, and haven't exactly had different gig's with other people, more so picking up gig's from the same person / animator that makes content on YouTube. I do the voice of a main character of a small series of videos that have been extremely popular, gaining millions of views on each video, we even worked on a fully official theme song for the series! My question is this, with how many views the finished production gains and how much overall cash flow the video receives, I somewhat feel that I am being ripped off for how much I get payed for my work VS how much money it makes... We are currently working on a third video with myself taking the lead role, and I feel as though I should speak up regarding that I feel that I should be payed more than I was for the previous two gig's seeing that the production value has sky rocketed, along with factors like the upgrade in quality due to the gear I now use VS what I used to use, how much my Voice Acting has improved, along with more work being done on the production with re do's of lines, etc. I find this a very hard situation, as it's it's his character, he's animation, he is the animator, lead writer, sound engineer when it comes to music and ambient sounds, he has one other person that helps write alongside some input from me, and a few other voice actors that play other roles, but other than that, I just do a voice. I see him as a friend over a just a boss, and he has trouble when it comes to the money side of things, not knowing if he is doing things right, (underpaying or overpaying) I just worry about losing out on the opportunity do keep doing role, which is why I haven't spoke up/ At this point in time, he's all good for that free use when it comes to using assets to help promote my voice acting (lines from the series, sections of the video, drawn assets. etc) He is planning on creating merchandise for the series, and I've been told by some that I should be discussing payments from sales that he makes due to role as the character and how much of a impact I have on making the series successful due to the voice I play, but it just doesn't feel right? Has anyone else ever been in this situation? These have been my first voice acting gig's, so I've never really had a base line to go off of when it comes to working and being payed for your work. Any advice would be super appreciated!

Looking for a website to make it easier for actors to send in lines by ShortenedEnigma  •  last post Nov 9th

I'm doing a project with some friends of mine and it requires them to send in a lot of voice lines but it sometimes takes them a while because we don't really have a streamlined way to send them. I'm looking for a website where they can record through the site and it'll be automatically available to me, I've tried looking for something like this but I haven't been able to find anything. Any help is appreciated

YouTube for delivering audio content by bvanevery  •  last post Nov 9th

TIL something interesting about people's "viewing" habits on YouTube. People don't necessarily watch things on YouTube paying their full undivided attention. People often watch things as background noise. *Noise.* Such people are mostly paying attention to the *audio*, not the video. To the extent that they're paying attention at all. This makes me realize, for some audiences and some genres, YouTube is actually functioning like a giant radio. With perfunctory visual illustration to keep people from fleeing in terror. This is a newsflash to me. Maybe it is not to some of you, which is why I'm asking about it here. Can you give examples of voice actors who are creating original content, and releasing it *on YouTube*, in order to gain popularity? And then having some kind of direct or indirect way of monetizing that? Maybe you think that's "well duh, everyone" but I think the voice acting angle is important here. I'm talking about monetizing *the sound of your own voice*, through your own content somehow. I'm *not* talking about people who are putting together elaborate visuals, videos, or other production values. In short, something like a modern radio play, aimed at people who just have the radio turned on across the room while they're doing something else. Maybe a specific example for my situation would help. There are people on the internet who play games and make videos about it. Typically the person is just dumping their *raw footage* of them playing the game, along with whatever verbal prattle about what they are doing. There are few to no production values for this stuff. No voice acting, no editing for conciseness, no script, no special effort to get to any kind of a point. And someone like [quill18](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HpyQoU1DNw) can get *half a million subscribers* this way. I have no idea if he makes money on it somehow, but as a way of getting *attention*, that's nothing to sneeze at!

Response to Make Connections in the Film Industry When I Don’t Live in LA? (by Richard Botto) by Lourdes Trammell  •  last post Nov 8th

I just got back to Stage32 after a hiatus. I just want to say, I really appreciate this video I views. I totally agree with Botto, when he says, "You go to a party, you get dressed up, you look nice, you socialize...why can't people do that online?" You have to just go do it. If you want to direct, pick up a camera. Write? Pick up a pen or hit the keyboard. Act? Perform - even when there's no audience. Don't depend on funding or promises or connections before you've even stepped out the door. That's what I've learned. Anyone else?

Can someone answer me this about actors? by Thefilmmaker  •  last post Nov 8th

I have a real question, that perhaps the actors here on Backstage can answer for me. A filmmaker will put out a casting call here on Backstage, explaining everything in explicit detail about the project, from filming dates to compensation to - everything. A whole bunch of actors responds to...

Need help finding a scene for 2 by Broba_fettt  •  last post Nov 8th

So I’m not an actor but I have to perform a scene for a class I’m taking. I need to find a scene that’s approximately 5-7 minuets long. I was hoping someone could provide some suggestions. It is one man and one woman. The gender of the two don’t really matter. It can be from a play movie or sitcom Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
