What’re your must haves to bring with for long shoots? by bluserose113 • last post Feb 27th

I’m a BG actress and have done a few shoots, but I have a 14+ hour night shoot in a few days and was wondering what some of your guys’ “must haves” to bring are? Apologies if this isn’t allowed here, checked the rules and didn’t see anything and couldn’t find anything in the search, but I’ll delete if it breaks any rules I didn’t see.

If Job Interviews Were Like Acting Auditions by Danceronice • last post Feb 27th

I wrote a new sketch exploring the bizarre things actors are asked and asked to do. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/7SHLDTEPddQ

Would someone be willing to do this? by Very_very_depressed • last post Feb 27th

I wrote a screenplay, this is a screenplay for my first feature film that I plan to be directing but this is not my first time directing a film period. Anyway, the screenplay is about strangers from different, racial clashing backgrounds being forced to work together to survive the horrific elements surrounding them. It's a screenplay that sets out to bring attention to police brutality and corruption and the racism that those of all races face on all sides and it's a drama/thriller genre story. I'm looking for an actor to read it, just to get their feedback on the overall story, as if they were watching it on the big screen, in a movie theatre, so I thought I'd come here and ask if I can get feedback on the story from an actor's POV. So would anyone be willing to read it and give me some feedback on it?

Is it a good/bad idea to travel to LA for Pilot Season? by penguin_reddit • last post Feb 27th

Just graduated from school. I have a manager in NYC who I believe gets the LA breakdowns (have to double check) so I may be able to go out on some auditions. Also, want to test out the waters there before I decide whether or not to make a move out. What are some productive things that people traveling to LA for Pilot season specifically do? Workshops/classes, coaches, headshots, etc. things to fill the time and make the most of the however many 3-ish months that people are out here? Also, the best way to not spend/waste a lot of money and make the most of it. I know a lot of child actors come out here for Pilot season but what do the more young adult/adult people do out here during that time?

Headshot-Age Range-Character Type Post - Feb 27 by AutoModerator • last post Feb 27th

Use this thread to post your headshots for feedback, get info on your age range/type, find good headshot photographers, ask any questions you may have about headshots. If you are posting a DIY headshot for feedback, and not just a snapshot in order to get feedback on your age range/type/etc, it is advised that you do at least some basic research on what actor headshots look like--composition, framing, lighting. You will find a Google Image search for "actor headshots" to be very helpful for this. Non-professional shots are fine for age/typecasting; please keep in mind that one picture is a difficult way to go about this. Video of you moving and speaking would be ideal, but understandably more difficult to post. For what it's worth, the branding workshop at SAG-AFTRA recommends a five-year age range. That's inclusive, so for example 19-23, 25-29, 34-38, etc.

Any Sydney Actors in need of side gig? by HorrorGolightly • last post Feb 27th

Hi! Anyone here from Sydney, Australia looking for a flexible side gig? I work as an English tutor for school kids, uni students and people wanting to get better at conversational English. They’re currently looking for more tutors and as the owner used to be an actor they’re currently advertising on the Starnow site, looking for people who are more on the outgoing side (hence the Starnow ad!). It’s a decent gig and they’re super flexible with last minute auditions and rehearsals. Send me a DM if you’re interested in the contact details (or apply via Starnow if you have it) They’re interviewing in Redfern the first two saturdays in March. Apologies for any weird formatting I’m on my phone, and I just thought I’d post this to help anyone out keen for a casual side gig. I’m not selling anything, and I won’t earn anything for posting this. Cheers!

Too late to get into acting? 23 Years going to a University by mthethrowaway141 • last post Feb 27th

This year I just wanted to break out of my shell and do more instead of being just a homebody. Currently attending a Uni as well finishing school and working full time. If it’s relevant my degree will be in creative writing, which i plan to apply to help my Music / Screenwriting. Another thing is I live in LA so it could be polluted with aspiring actors / musicians. I’ve always been interested in Music and Acting and have branched out into music already. How do i get ‘into’ it? and is it too late for me? I turn 24 in a couple months and am just trying to do the most before it’s too late If it’s not too late to get into it then what should I do to get myself ahead? Or get better

Young actors, if you could ask an established professional actor questions about the industry, finding work etc what would you ask? by lovetempests • last post Feb 27th

I’m hopefully going to meet up with an older/established professional actor soon. I feel like I have so many things to ask them but I’m trying to make a list of things to see what would be useful. Any tips would be appreciated!

Hey folks! College sophomore here putting on a musical for my fraternity, and I could use some help from some of you incredibly talented people! by KITE_Maverick • last post Feb 27th

Tl;dr: My character is like Ryan from high school musical and I need help with a line about a haughty self proclaimed acting protégée complaining about being cast as Bumblebee #7 in the upcoming 4th grade play. Skip to second to last paragraphs or the line. At my univ, we have a huge fundraiser where sororities and fraternities pair up, and write a twenty-five minute musical from scratch with one original song and three lyrically modified songs. It's quite a big deal from the scope of a frat boy who doesn't make it on stage a lot, with just under two-thousand people in attendance at all three shows. Enough exposition- let's get into the meat and potatoes. Our show is about a 4th grade class that's putting on a play for their parent's, and the lead role is the main character, The New Girl. My character (Jacques) draws a lot of inspiration from Ryan Evans from Highschool musical. Very passionate about the arts, very flamboyant, but the character isn't gay. Hell, he's a forth grader and cooties are deadly (I only include this part because my character went through a lot of 'development' from the sensitivity board who were trying to make an issue out of something that wasn't there). REGARDLESS, being a massive theatre enthusiast he is, Jacques is devastated when he finds that he was cast as Bumblebee #7 (chorus) for the spring 4th grade play, and has a scene expressing his contempt for the situation at recess. This is where we get into why I'm asking for you guys' help. In the screen I (Jacques) am talking to my posse of followers. The line is as follows: "Can you believe this? A STAR like ME? Cast as \*mockingly flapping hands like a bee\* BEE NUMBER 7?" This first part works really well and I've gotten quite good at expressing Jaques' overly dramatized persona, however for the next part, I would like some possible other suggestions as to what Jacques could reply. He continues "I know I said I could work with this, but I don't think I can." To which one of my followers replies "Bees are so cute with their little stripes and wings! I think your part sounds fun!" keep in mind all the characters except for the teacher are forth graders, so that's why the cutesy line is so childlike. To replace the "I know I said I could work with this, but I don't think I can" line, I would like it to be more insightfully cliche of an actor being cast as a role he thinks is severely below him. Like if Ryan Evans were cast as a chorus member, he would feel slighted and under appreciated. What would a well experienced (But haughty) actor say in this situation? I want it to possibly include some theater/acting jargon if possible. Thank you so much to anyone who actually does read all the way through. I know that the characters are very stereotyped cookie cutter sounding, but at the end of the day it's only 25 minutes long. Thank you so much for any responses! love, kite maverick

Advice for beginner actors? by Galaxyfanfan00 • last post Feb 27th

Hello! My name is Breana. I live in Los Angeles and I have taken 2 years of acting in high school. I love acting because I get to be a totally different person and be so confident doing it. My question is, • are there any agencies you'd recommend? • How did you start your acting career? • What are some things you wish you knew when you started and what advice would you have told yourself back then? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! And I hope this thread can help other novice actors as well!

Why don't more actors link their Actors Access to their social media? by onionsandradishes • last post Feb 26th

Is there some reason it is a bad idea that I don't know about?

Actors Access or Backstage? by randumbrando • last post Feb 26th

I feel like the big majority here prefers AA, but I took a look at Backstage and honestly think it has more fitting casting calls for me at least (I’m 18F based in NYC). Which one do you prefer and why?

help me i am not an actor by BeyondBaltimore • last post Feb 26th

hi, i don't want to make this too long because this is not a usual situation. i go to a magnet high school, and we do a black history month assembly with a show every year depicting different events in history. our school is very diverse, we have no majority, but we do have a majority sex. its about 7:3 females to males at my school and we don't have a lot of white guys, especially tall white guys. my school is very artsy, so you usually find "regular" high school kids in your computer and workshop classes. my math teacher approached me and practically begged me to play a racist in the presentation because they were lacking white men, especially those who could pass as intimidating authority figures. my role, drag someone in, look menacing, and then drag them off. the catch is, i am not an actor so i have a terrible stage presence. question: how do i make myself look menacing without being awkward, from the moment i walk out dragging them, to the moment i drag them off thank u, a very confused high school junior who should have just said no. <3

How essential is paying for an IMDBpro and Backstage account to becoming a working actor? by Mellowmoves • last post Feb 26th

I have been taking classes, doing community theatre and volounterring for student films for almost 2 years, (I also have professional headshots for what its worth). Probably not very long compared to some, but quiting my job to act full time is my current goal(likely won't happen too soon but that's okay!) Anyways, I hear that for most paid opportunities these two services are invaluable. How true is that? Is getting an agent just as good or better? Should I apply for agencies before signing up for these services? Should I use these services even if i do have an agent? Also, from my understanding, IMDBpro and Backstage work in conjunction. Is that true or is one better/more essential than the other(not 100% clear on their functions). Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Seeking actors and filmmakers for feedback and testing by filmpatico • last post Feb 26th

Hello all, First off I'm not selling anything. I am seeking actors, filmmakers and other creatives to test a platform I've been working on, geared toward indie and student filmmakers. I've worked on small productions and find that it's very common for newcomers and more seasoned filmmakers to wear many hats (actor/writer/director/editor, etc.), which can be a positive or negative for the finished product. Based on my own experiences in this space, I think existing platforms like Backstage and Stage32 are great but lacking in several areas. My goal isn't to compete with these sites, but rather (hopefully) develop something that is uniquely tailored to people just starting out and/or building their portfolio and gaining experience. The primary goals of Filmpatico (working) are to: * match creatives to new and existing projects * encourage networking for future ones * streamline communication, scheduling and file sharing with a project management module It's currently in a rough development stage so there are bound to be bugs, but I would greatly appreciate if anyone has time to take a look and and click around a bit to see if this is something that would be beneficial to the community. Even a 5 minute glance and first impression is very helpful and I welcome any kind of criticism or suggestions. Feel free to send me a PM also. URL is [filmpatico.com](https://filmpatico.com/). Thank you so much!

Most legit audition posting websites for NYC by Drumsat1 • last post Feb 26th

Hello fellow actors, I was wondering what the best audition websites are for auditions based in NYC, mainly looking for tv, film and commercial auditions. I know of the big ones such as backstage and actors access, but which ones do you feel get you the most bang for your buck?

BFA programs that allow you to audition and even take an loa if you book work? by carmencortez5 • last post Feb 26th

I already act professionally out of NYC and would like to know about favorite bfa programs for somewhat working actors (I really only get a few jobs a year). Or, if not bfa programs, flexible college programs that will accommodate someone pursuing acting. Favorite BFA programs so far are CMU, USC, Julliard, and NYU but I have no idea if they're as flexible as I'd like them to be (especially NYU).

Does anyone want to try and voice a husband in a phone call scene for a short film? It's a short Warner Bros worked on and I need a person who can be fun, affectionate, loving, and bantering with his wife by ReCKoNeR_ • last post Feb 25th

I've been looking for months. Every voice actor overplays it or underplays it. Is there anyone out there interested in being the voice of a loving husband? Thank you!

Filming your own reel by HathorOfWindAndMagic • last post Feb 25th

Former “took a long break” actor. I no longer have any updated video (within the last 7 years) to create a reel, but most of the auditions I’ve seen I could possibly go for ask for a video reel. I can and will film my own scenes/monologues if necessary but is that suggested? What do you normally film if you’re creating your own before you have new material? I consider myself a newbie as it’s been almost a decade since I’ve even been on an audition so please be kind! I know it’s a different world out there now. I’m taking some improv classes at UCB and am looking into some refresher courses at a few schools. I am looking for a focus in film where I don’t necessarily have to start at “101” (but I will). Any suggestions there would help to. I was with Stella Adler over ten years ago on both coasts.
