Any good tips for making myself sound like a girl? by fridaysisterpeeplega  •  last post Feb 13th

So I’m trying to resemble the voice of Kath Soucie (mostly her younger characters) and I’m a guy who can do a high pitched voice that isn’t really convincing enough. Anyone got some good tips on what to do, or just practice? I practice everyday and it still sounds like a guy who isn’t really convincing enough. I don’t have enough money to hire a voice actor and thought I can do it myself (heck it can even be an asset too.)

Slightly questionable request in self-tape audition by EdwardDoheny  •  last post Feb 13th

So I understand that you can't really be choosy or a diva when you're at the bottom like I am, but I'm having some reservations about this "callback" self-tape audition. I'm being asked to do something pretty stupid/embarrassing, but in context it's understandable and makes sense for the part. It's for a student film and basically I have this mental hurdle of imagining my footage ending up somewhere I don't want it or imagining these people laughing at how they can make desperate actors make fools of themselves. Is it acceptable to ask if I can just kind of leave that part out and do the rest of the scene, or is this a "suck it up and hope it stays private" kind of situation?

Can Agencies Attach Themselves To Self-Submits on Actors Access? by lzbumblebee  •  last post Feb 13th

I self-submitted myself for a casting and ended up getting an eco-cast audition—except it somehow came through with one of my reps. I’ve self-submitted myself before and booked gigs and not had this happen so I’m not sure if maybe I got double submitted (by myself and said agency). What strikes me as odd however is that the location for this gig if selected is about 7 hours away from me (Atlanta) and usually when reps want to submit for something that isn’t necessarily local they’ll ask ahead of time if I will be available and open to said submission. This new agency is one I only did one promo event for, and was signed up (without a contract) to be represented non-exclusively for commercial and theatrical projects. Right now it’s not a huge deal, however if this is something that can occur frequently (self-submission and the agency latches on) they’re essentially just getting paid to leech on to whatever hustling I’m doing myself. I would much rather that percentage go towards my other agencies which actually submit me often to projects and keep in frequent contact. I don’t see a need, as of yet, to formally break ties with this other agency. For the area that I’m currently in some agencies are privy to castings that other agencies aren’t, so it’s really a matter of playing the odds and covering all my bases. But again, I’m not exactly sure how it works on the other side of things if agencies can see the self-submits their talents do.

Working background in LA. by Nomad79  •  last post Feb 13th

Hello, I am a veteran on a pension. I like to work background for extra income. I have no desire to be a real actor but the flexibility and food on set is great for me as my side gig. I know it sounds crazy to say I love background but it works for me. I have mostly only worked non union in Louisiana. It’s been a while but I am now SAG. So I’m considering moving to LA to do background work. I only get 3k a month. With bills and rent is it possible to survive in LA just doing SAG background work. I know it’s probably depends on how hard I work and what gigs I get. But after looking at the cost of living, it’s tempting.

Never book but i think i know why.. by StrobeRogers  •  last post Feb 13th

Hello all, I never book. I finally got an answer. I don't commit enough. Which is weird because I think of myself as a 'method' actor haha. Most times I audition for things I don't have a real connection or everyone is white, and I'm just auditioning because I want to say I exhausted everything. Would more training help me commit more? Thanks

Headshot-Age Range-Character Type Post - Feb 13 by AutoModerator  •  last post Feb 13th

Use this thread to post your headshots for feedback, get info on your age range/type, find good headshot photographers, ask any questions you may have about headshots. If you are posting a DIY headshot for feedback, and not just a snapshot in order to get feedback on your age range/type/etc, it is advised that you do at least some basic research on what actor headshots look like--composition, framing, lighting. You will find a Google Image search for "actor headshots" to be very helpful for this. Non-professional shots are fine for age/typecasting; please keep in mind that one picture is a difficult way to go about this. Video of you moving and speaking would be ideal, but understandably more difficult to post. For what it's worth, the branding workshop at SAG-AFTRA recommends a five-year age range. That's inclusive, so for example 19-23, 25-29, 34-38, etc.

What little things can I bring into a rehearsal space to make it more homely? by Unhelpfulhelpful  •  last post Feb 12th

The rehearsal gods have blessed me and gifted me rehearsal rooms but the catch is there's absolutely no furniture whatsover. What should I bring in that'll help us actors feel more at home in the space?

Life is too short, and I want to do allot of things in the Cinematography Industry, I’m almost graduating and I like doing Digital Design but I also always though of acting I really like Movies and how they are made So I don’t know if I also Want to be a by Soloids  •  last post Feb 12th

I don’t think I’m good Enough, Im 17 which in my opinion allot of good actors start from a really much younger age, as well as feeling the pressure of graduating and what am I’m going to do with my life cause I don’t want to move out of my Island and go blindfolded onto USA. Anybody else feeling like this?

Audio Fiction Network - A community for Writers, Actors and Producers by JohnGaines_SE  •  last post Feb 12th

Hello fellow Producers, Actors and Writers! Audio Fiction Network is a creator driven discord community of audio drama actors, writers, and producers getting together to chill, share our love of the medium, and have a reliable place to share work and get feedback. We have creative server events for our members such as Table Reads where we periodically have our actor members do cold reads and give direct feedback for the writers to help them improve their draft. We currently have over 700 members but we are currently looking for more smart people to join in on the workshopping! The more, the merrier. We've relaunched our creative hub and we'd like to extend an invite to folks here who may be interested in it as well and find it useful. All members are also invited to the discord's creative hub where we have over 360 produced audio drama scripts for any writer's viewing pleasure, outlines, templates, and a royalty free commercially useable sound library of over 200 GB+ for audio drama producers and sound designers to use whenever and however they want. **Link to our community:** [https://discord.gg/XsVNyVB](https://discord.gg/XsVNyVB) **GIFS of our Creative Hub** **AFN Creative Hub: Scripts Library** [https://imgur.com/z7AdeQn](https://imgur.com/z7AdeQn) **AFN Creative Hub: Sound Library** [https://imgur.com/AJkB1S6](https://imgur.com/AJkB1S6)

I have been cast in a play and my character has a stutter. How do I do it convincingly? by RocknRollins  •  last post Feb 12th

I am looking for any and all tips on how to put on a convincing stutter that sounds natural and not insulting. Everything I can find online is about helping actors overcoming a stutter. At the moment I am staggering the words and when it finally comes out it's as if it's painful to say. What I'm doing doesn't feel like the best way. So yeah, any advice welcome.

Should you send casting agencies your personal projects? by potential_key  •  last post Feb 12th

Hi Actors, I recently created a short concept film based off a hit show. I'm torn because i want to share it with as many people as possible. However, I'm debating if i should send this short film to my casting agency as they can use it for my profile. Any thoughts are greatly appreciate

How to be involved in Children's Television/Youth Entertainment? by Yaars23  •  last post Feb 12th

I always think about how much I would love being a host for a children's TV show (think Blues Clues) or doing the voices for other children's shows. I know some of these shows are done on a local level--think local PBS shows. Are these just regular actors? Are they folks who have a passion for doing work for children? How would one get cast--the usual way?

Go to NYU or Move to LA by treypoerschke  •  last post Feb 12th

I'm 22 years old and have reached final callbacks to go to NYU for graduate school. Obviously a great oppurtunity but incredibly expensive. If i want to be film actor is it worth it to go to NYU and train or should i just move to LA and try to start a career. Background: I have no reel, or any acting experience. I took one class called fundamentals of acting at the University of Texas where the teacher called me into her office after class to tell me I should really consider acting as a career. I also did theatre in middle school and early high school. I do have a true passion for film and acting as an art form though and its pretty much all i think about.
