i get auditions so randomly, but right now I have a guest star tape for a show and I have nobody to help me rehearse with, the actor friends I do have (who are struggling) are too jealous / competitive to even be in the right mindset to be happy for me and help me (I encounter this a lot), and coordinating with other people is always a logistical nightmare. so yeah, i'm looking for more actor friends to help each other out with self tapes. i also write and shoot shorts with friends and am looking for other actors who also write for themselves and are interested in creating more content. i'm 32 meisner trained in bushwick / ridgewood. hit me up if you're interested!
I'd like to pick your brain as to what was the path you took in order to work with them. I'm a Houston based Voice Actor, where Sentai is based, and Dallas isn't too far either. I'm trying to chart a career course for how to get there! Sentai joked on their website that the only way to do VO work for them is to know a guy who knows a guy who knows THAT guy
Being an actor, I take the craft and the business VERY seriously. I have schooling, experience, talent (At least I think I do). I have outgrown my current city (Pittsburgh) and am saving up to move. I have studied method acting, and take the craft very seriously. Some of my biggest inspirations like De Niro, Pacino, Driver, Streep, and Hoffman, all started In NYC. I have no aspirations to become mega-famous. I want to work with interesting directors, out-of-the-box filmmakers. I want to tell interesting stories that stick with people. One of my biggest fears in life is that I will fail, make a hallmark movie, and never work again. Something all actors fear... Im choosing NY becuase I feel more comfortable there. I know NYC. I travel there. The subway is convenient, etc. I also feel that most people move to Los Angeles, and end up just another face in the crowd. Why did you choose LA or NYC? What was your reasoning behind your decision? Do you feel like you have made the right decision?
Straight to the point, I have a misdemeanor for battery from an idiotic drunken fight I got into years ago. It's a bit complicated but I wasn't convicted (I'm not sure that really matters, though). EDIT: Just clarifying that I wasn't acquitted. I was discharged after admitting guilt. I was wondering, how much can something like this affect your ability to find work in film, TV, commercials and theater? What should I expect? I imagine having a record and trying to work for a company like Disney, for example, would pose problems which is understandable. I'm also thinking there could be a problem with doing commercials as you don't really want someone with a record for fighting being the face of your product. And there are plenty of actors out there with squeaky clean histories so why would anyone choose to unnecessarily associate their product with negativity? Also, could a record affect your ability to get an agent or manager? What about joining SAG-AFTRA? I've talked about this with people I know (they're not in the business, though) and they bring up people like Robert Downey, Jr. and Mark Wahlberg. I don't know. Maybe I'm overthinking this but I feel like I'm going to be at a massive disadvantage and I'm unsure how or if I should go forward with this. Thank you!
Hi actors! I am looking to update my demo reel with a spanish scene to showcase my range in a different language. I was wondering if you guys had maybe a website where I can peruse a scene I can do. I have been searching online but I am having some difficulties. All the help is appreciated! I also want to take the time to thank this sub, it's really amazing that we all took the very brave and scary leap to follow our true passion. Whenever I feel like giving up, I come back to this sub that reminds me that I am not alone in this journey. Cheers!!
I'm an actor that just recently moved to New York. I had an audition today, and my first song went beautifully. I got head nods and everything. I did my second cut, and I basically threw it in the gutter. My high belt just wasn't there and I choked on what is usually a money note for me. I actually choked on it and made a horrible choking hairball-like noise in front of this director. I felt awful. How do you guys handle a bad audition? How do you bounce back? Many thanks!!
I recently got an Actors Access account. I’ve had it for a few weeks now and so far I’ve submitted myself to every single role match that popped up on there but I’ve received zero responses. I’m not surprised I haven’t heard back about roles for major productions because I’m relatively new to the industry and I don’t have that much experience. The thing is that I’m not even hearing back about student films, which is kind of strange because I get auditions for student films all the time (and occasionally bigger productions) through Facebook and Instagram. I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or whether it’s simply not worth getting Actors Access as someone who’s just starting out and doesn’t have an agent yet. I'm currently signed up for 1 month and I'm thinking of canceling because it doesn't seem to get me anything. Thoughts? Notes: - I have 2 headshot on Actors Access and the App only lets me submit one for each casting call. - I have not uploaded my demo reel on Actors Access but I always add a link to it in the comments. - I’m located in Toronto.
Do they get dropped? Do they get distributed to other agents?
I’m a first time voice actor and I rather just stretch my legs and see what jobs I can do for free. I’m able to do a younger voice 17-19 or early 20s but can experiment with other tones. If anyone here needs a job, I can do it for free. Once again thanks for the assistance and if you guys know any place where I can get some practice and voice for free please let me know! I’m just eager to see what I can do and where it will take me!
I'm a voice actress by hobby, and I love the community that CCC has. Are there any other sites that are similar to CCC in terms of number of people and possessing both casual and professional voice acting?
For the working actor, what are classes (such as scene study or on-camera audition technique) should an actor pursue while they’re in the trenches to better their craft? And why?
Hey peeps! I'm writing an article for my blog on all the free software downloads available for voice actors. During my research, I stumbled across something called "[ocenaudio](http://www.ocenaudio.com/whatis)". And it looks pretty sweet. There's no support for multiple tracks which means it's a bit easier to use than say Audacity or Ardour (or GarageBand, etc). But it still has support for a lot of the effects and plugins that Audacity supports. Stuff like noise reduction and, of course, other stuff none of us would ever use. I'd love to hear from any of you who have actually used it (or are currently using it). What are the pros and cons of using it? How does it compare to Audacity? I'd be happy to link to your site, embed any recordings you've done with it, etc. http://www.ocenaudio.com/whatis Personally I think the user-interface is waaay nicer than Audacity. It kinda gets out of the way more. Yeah, yeah, you can disable all the extra toolbars you're not using in Audacity but I like things that are pretty out-the-box.
I’m a lead in a short film this weekend & I have a scene where I’m expected to cry/“sob”. I’m really nervous! Especially since (in the script at least) I go from discussing something to BAM crying within a very small window. I’ve been pursuing acting for less than a year & I’ve never had a scene like this. I’ve been able to cry when practicing scenes or whatnot by myself, although it’s been hit or miss, but I’ve never been required to for an actual role yet, which is what actually matters... you could be the best actor in the world but if you can only act within the comfort of your room it doesn’t matter much. I’m worried I won’t be able to perform when I need to... however I feel it is better to work through these types of feelings & situations on smaller projects, that way I am more accustomed to it if I ever get to larger ones Anyway, any tips, advice or encouragement? (It may be of note that I did not audition for this role in the traditional sense. It’s for a film competition & everyone signs up for x position, & then you get assigned a team based on the position you signed up for. So I signed up to be an actress, & then got assigned to a crew, if that makes sense.)
On the red carpet last night I repped Honeyboy and Shia for best actor and best picture in every interview. Not a single person from press corrected me and several even said thats who they are hoping for too. Amazing.
I am a professional Cinematographer, I shoot commercials (and now features) for a living. I am looking to produce a little fashion film (for no brand in particular) just looking for an actress/model who is looking for an amazing looking piece for her reel. The idea is simple, hike with an old school backpacking pack, along this trail, end up at this waterfall walk into the waterfall. no nudity. Have a really cool location my reel is.. [https://vimeo.com/257767366](https://vimeo.com/257767366) will be shooting with my professional gear (alexa mini, leica primes)
So i want to start networking. I want to start making music and be an entertainer/actor. But i dont know who to turn to or which path i want to venture off to first. I like singing, dancing, and acting. (And maybe alittle bit of modeling). How do i find people to hire me for my passions and aspirations?
Are they paid for the prep/episode weeks or entire 52 weeks per year?
I want to be a successful actress but am worried about my plan. My plan was to move to LA. For more than just acting I want to have a hand in any aspect of art for a job and I like the culture. I am wondering how much of someone’s looks and age plays into getting parts. I have been to acting school and a few conferences involving acting and music. It was pretty obviously the models and children at the events and schools I’ve attended were what was desired from agents and managers. If I moved to LA I wouldn’t have an official agent or manager yet but I have an agency that helps coach me. I am very serious about an acting career (and music) no matter the cost of it means transforming my outer appearance or taking more classes anything to increase my chances. What do you think of my plan? Is it common for actresses to show skin and possible nudity to make a career in acting?
