Theatre to Movies by galacticFoot  •  last post Jan 5th

I am a 12 year old theatre actor from Northern Ireland, since I was about 7 I have acted in small theatre productions at my local theatre. I have always been trying to get auditions for movies and such but it was only until a few days ago I actually got one, it was for The NorthMan by Robert Eggers. I want advice on how to get more auditions. That's really it. I am extremely passionate for acting and I know everyone says that but I don't care, if anyone has advice on how to get auditions, thanks. FYI my mother is looking into getting me into an agency.

Acting in California/ Short Film Sharing? by yosark  •  last post Jan 5th

Hello, I've truly wanted to act and I've written many ideas down that I plan to record throughout 2020. I wanted to ask if there was an area in which I could share these short films I will make and what areas you think are good to share clips. Also, I did get in touch with a few mentioning ActorsAccess and Backstage are good for auditions. Would anyone know any other areas you could get in touch for auditions in Los Angeles. I truly want to see if I am good enough to fit in for some role and I really want to find an audition.

Best drama schools in the UK and Ireland? by JesseKansas  •  last post Jan 5th

I'm currently in year 9 and about to go into a vocational school with a performing arts course for the next two years, and a guaranteed place at college for performing arts. I'm a decent to good actor, and i'm getting trained in dance and music on my course. The whole goal, as it were, is to get into a good drama school at 18 and do a foundation degree. It doesn't matter where but I prefer cities. I was looking at RADA, but that's really hard to get into. I also took a look at LAMDA and Mountview, possibly RWCMD or DADA. There's just a lot of different schools and I don't know what I should do. I'm going to save a lot of money so I can afford travelling to auditions around the country. If there's any other drama schools that are good / underground and not very well known let me know :)

Asking CD for another chance for a role by baylor4  •  last post Jan 5th

I went up for a role and got a call back. The CD, producers, and writer all seemed to really like me. I didn't get called in again but the CD gave me great feedback to my agents but said that they wouldn't go further with me but I'll be considered for things in the future. 2 months later they're still searching for an actor and they've changed the breakdown slightly and it's really changed my outlook on the character. Is there any harm in asking my agents to put me up for the role again?

For those of you who are newcomers to acting my names TonyJones, welcome and break a leg!! Who knows the character better, the writer or the actor? by satedfox  •  last post Jan 4th

I'm an amateur screenwriter, and I'm curious about how much of a character gets taken out of my hands once I send in the script. Do you try to realize the writer's intentions, or just imagine what type of person the character is and go with it? What percent of the final character is from your imagination, and what percent is from the writer's?

Feel like the wrong person for a role by 35364461a  •  last post Jan 4th

I was cast as a supporting role in a feature film that’s based on a very popular video game, and I understand why. I fit the type for the character, and I feel that I did well in my audition. But I don’t think I should have gotten it and I can’t exactly explain why. I just feel like someone else would have been a better fit for the role I guess? The movie hasn’t been released yet, but I keep imagining watching it and seeing all the actors who are a great fit for the characters they’re portraying, and then there’s *me* as *that* character. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

We would love for you to join us there! FOR BRAND NEW ACTORS Here are the 10 things you should start doing BEFORE you reach out to a manager or agent for representation. 1. Learn How To Act. Before you do ANYTHING else. Get into tons of acting classes (scene study, on-camera acting, and improv) 2. Get PROFESSIONAL headshots. Sample Link: [https://breakdownservices.s3.amazonaws.com/media/photos/20151/476121/print/09519A5B-9E02-B0DB-F3FE03E3EDF5ABA6.jpg](https://breakdownservices.s3.amazonaws.com/media/photos/20151/476121/print/09519A5B-9E02-B0DB-F3FE03E3EDF5ABA6.jpg) 3. Create Acting profiles on these 3 legit online casting sites: Actors Access, Casting Networks, and Backstage. 4. Record a High Definition clip of a monologue or short scene using good lighting, good sound in front of a blank wall. HERE ARE 2 EXAMPLES: Scene: [https://pro.imdb.com/videoproembed/vi3502546201?ref\_=nm\_vid](https://pro.imdb.com/videoproembed/vi3502546201?ref_=nm_vid) Monologue: [https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=j\_YqBhpDm78](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=j_YqBhpDm78) 5. Upload your clip (s) to your online profiles (Actors Access, LA Casting and Backstage.) 6. Create a pro looking resume 7. Submit yourself DAILY on those 3 casting sites. 8. Book a 5-10 short films, student films, and web-series. 9. Add your bookings and acting classes to your hard copy and online resumes as you go. 10. Upload 3-4 30 second clips to your online profiles \*\*\*\*THEN present those to a Manager, or Agent! "Showcase companies" don't teach anyone to do these 10 things and this is WHAT they actors absolutely HAVE to do. They could be teaching this. It is not a secret, They choose not to. I want them to change that. This is FREE information in the pinned post in the TMFA for 60,000 people to see. Is Tim Curry a good actor? by Sir-Farty-Fartsalot  •  last post Jan 4th

What do you think?

Can a stage name not sound like a real name at all? Or is that a bad idea when starting out? by SafeNeighbor  •  last post Jan 4th

I know there's people like "Awkwafina", "Seal", "Slash", etc. But basically my real name is an uncommon Arab name that no one ever pronounces right, "Seif Naber". It's ugly on paper, in my opinion. However, it's pronounced "Safe Neighbor". So I've been using that as a stage name for my music (hence the username) because it has a cool story behind it that people enjoy and anyone who says "Hey, Safe" is just saying the name I've heard since I was a child. I've been thinking about pursuing acting on the side with no expectations since I've been doing it casually and took classes in HS/College on and off. Would "Safe Neighbor" be a horrible stage name on a resume? Should I just come up with a "normal" name like "Chris Miles" or at least put an Arab spin on the last name like "Chris Sultan"? Or maybe use a more known Arab first name like "Ramy" (although there's already two famous Ramy/Rami's). There's actually one actor with my last name, "Joey Naber" in LA (my area) so I don't know if that's better or worse if I keep the last name but go by like "Chris Naber" or "Steve Naber". Then there's the question of keeping my music separate or changing that name to reflect the acting stage name. I imagine being a musician is helpful when trying to act. I just wanna make sure if I try I get off on the right foot. Any advice is appreciated.

Aspiring actress on the East Coast by Lenaserenity123  •  last post Jan 4th

Hello guys, I am a 32 year old female, originally from Ukraine wanting to act, primarily films. Where do I begin? Do I move to LA? Do I try out in New York first? My only ties to Television is my associate degree in Communication Arts/TV and Film Production. I enjoyed it but it was more about editing and nothing with drama. And I love drama acting. I took drama class in high school and I loved it. I took acting class in college and loved it too but my insecurities prevented me from keep going. I even went to some acting school for a bit when I was 18 and they said I had a natural talent. Once again, I was overwhelmed and didn't think it was actually going to happen for me so I stopped going. Any advise on how I get started?

Feeling down on myself by j0rdan21  •  last post Jan 4th

Hey guys, so just a little about me. I recently graduated with my MFA in Acting and moved to LA. I’ve been making strides toward becoming a working voice actor for the past 10 years, and I finally felt like I was ready to go for it. I made a character demo with a well-known director in the industry about a year and a half ago, with the intent on being ready as soon as I finished grad school. It turned out that the process of making the demo was more like a workshop and it didn’t provide each person with much time on the mic, and even less time to work on character objectives, tactics, etc. I got some feedback on my demo from another big player in the business, and he basically told me that it sounds homemade/outdated and he isn’t hearing me make use of basic acting principles within it. I want to believe that this is primarily due to the environment in which the demo was made, and not necessarily reflective of who I am as an actor. Like I said, I felt good about things before, but this feels like a blow to my confidence. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What classes should I start with for film-acting? by ScatterdFries  •  last post Jan 4th

Hey I am a beginner with no experience, but I am still at the age where if I start I won’t have any issues catching up. I have kind of always had an affinity for acting, although I thought of it as like a dream job, a job that I probably wouldn’t be able to work, but then I suddenly realized that I’m young, I can do whatever the hell I want, so I am starting to work towards being an actor, for tv and such. What classes do you recommend? (I am in high school if that helps)

What would you say to a young actor who is terrified of being typecast as a gay stereotype? by Syeuk2002  •  last post Jan 3rd

I spoke with him today and although he is not what I would consider to be camp, he seems very hung up on the idea that all agents or casting people will try to force him to take camp roles, or hide to his sexuality. He doesn’t want to be forced into a corner where he feels like he would have to take roles or act in a certain way just to make ends meat, or simply to progress his career and be able to do what he loves. He experienced severe bullying around being gay growing up, I think these fears may be connected to that. What would you say to him?
