If you have questions, feel free to message me. Thanks!

Audition workshop by singadingding  •  last post Nov 28th

I submitted to a project and the producers have asked me to come in for a paid audition/reading the text workshop, and they want me to fill out an I-9 for payment for this workshop. That’s odd, right?

Is 24 too late to start acting if you are a woman? by AndieV  •  last post Nov 27th

So as the tittle says, is 24 too late to start acting as a girl? I'm currently 22 and living in Spain, I've had some experience acting in the US before when I was a teen and came for acting summer camps in LA, did very small role on a...

Is it a good idea? by brookedavis  •  last post Nov 26th

I'm unsure as to when the holiday season/vacation for productions start. I wanted to renew my AA subscription, but wasn't sure if it was pointless to do so now, if we are around the time where work is slow. Does it start to slow down starting from Thanksgiving? Week before...

I'm wanting to bring together a group of creative and talented people. by posidonking  •  last post Nov 25th

Hello! I apologize if this isn't the place for a post like this, I'm not sure where else to post it. I'm an audio editor for several podcasts and have been audio editing for about 2 years now, and I've always wanted to start a volunteer group of voice actors, writers, music, and artists. I've always wanted to make a podcast of some kind, I've got the technical know how, but absolutely nothing when it comes to writing, acting, music or art. So I'm wanting to start a group of talented people for all parts of the creative process, where we can throw ideas at each other and see what we can come up with as a group. DM or comment if interested :) Edit: I forgot to mention that this is volunteer. I'm not saying that being paid is off the table, but I don't get paid for anything, so I can't pay anyone. The idea, is that everyone get to have a part, and the project is everyone's. I apologize if this turns some people away, but I hope some people are interested, and we can get to a point where we can all earn money from it. Edit: I'm making a subreddit which everyone can come to when it's done, it's called r/AudioFableProductions. I've never really made a subreddit, so if you see anything odd, I'm still trying to fix it up

Recording software Questions: Audacity or something else? (Just Starting into the world of Voice Acting) by MrGoodhand  •  last post Nov 24th

So I'm currently using OBS to record audio, then converting the mp4 over to mp3/wav in Sony Vegas, this is an unnecessary and convoluted workflow; Looking to get a software that records only audio. To my knowledge, Audacity is the "best free" suite to deal with recording audio, But I want to know what you guys think a newbie Voice Actor should use starting out. My microphone is a garbled piece of trash, a Neewer BM - 700 Rebrand(Tonor BM - 700) that goes into a Behringer 204HD via XLR (It is a side-address condenser microphone) It has a HORRIBLE noise floor hiss in the 32-500hz range that needs a noise suppression curve(in the -110 dB range) so, in order to get cleaner recordings, I have to use reafir-standalone in subtraction mode to omit this problem frequency. This issue causes a static hiss in the -30 dB range if i don't omit it with this...aka, unusable. It is self noise, because I could turn the gain knob ALL the way down, and it is still just as loud, turning gain all the way up, adds more noise from the gain circuitry adding noise, I keep it around 25%. It is present in my monitoring headphones(Logitech G933's into the headphone zero latancy jack on the interface) but not when recording with OBS and the vst active. Then I use MeldaProductions FreeFXBundle, specifically its MAnalyzer(to make sure all noise is completely gone, ears are only so good at this.) MCompressor, and MEqualizer (though I've heard to leave your recordings alone in the EQ department for any sound engineers to do the EQ work themselves.) I use these in my twitch stream on OBS. Is Audacity "good enough" or is there some big issue I'm missing? I also have "Music Maker Pro" from a bundle I bought on Humble Bundle not too long ago, but from what I've been reading on that is it is meant more for hobbyists. Thoughts? Suggestions? Anyway, Thanks for reading, and I appreciate all feedback! Update: after testing all of the suggested programs that were free or had trials to test, I decided to stick with Reaper; It has full VST support, and the interface is highly intuitive. I'll be buying it at the end of my evaluation period; use the time to learn the program a bit more. A big thank you to everyone who responded and suggested programs to use! I tried: Audacity: VST support was limited, and you could not control the order in which the effects applied(to my knowledge!) Wavosaur: I tried this one, however, I could not get it to recgonize my mic in stereo, it produced a left channel recording with a static noise right channel, for whatever reason \- Debugging tried: Restarted pc, Reinstalled pc, unplugged and replugged interface, changed usb slot of interface, Switched on and off phantom power, Nothing fixed it. Not saying it is a bad program, I was simply unable to produce a recording in stereo. Ocenaudio: I tried this, admittedly for a short period; the ui was a little bit confusing to me, and as far as i scratched the surface, there was no vst support that I could find, Reaper: When I downloaded this, i was greeted with a highly intuitive interface, which allowed me to jump right in within minutes of installing. Definitely recommend this program to others looking to start their Voice acting careers. With full VST support(among other types!), including order of which they are applied, in an interface reminiscent to that of OBS, I was able to quickly and easily start to develop my working environment to my taste.

How do I cope with family who disagree with my career goals? by StrugglingThespian  •  last post Nov 23rd

Since I first realized in high school what I wanted to do with my life, my family hasn't been very supportive of my seeking acting and voice-over opportunities. They don't see it as conventional, even going so far as to fearmonger me out of it. They also dread the thought...

[PAID ROLE] [Female] [$50] [112 words] by Dracomies  •  last post Nov 22nd

**Age:** 25 to 32 years old **Name:** Ranger Gomez **Tone:** Ideally Mezzo-Soprano **Accent:** North-American or Southern accent. It's important that she either has one of those two as she shouldn't have a British accent, etc. **Appearance:** We can make her look like anyone with Blender and ZBrush but she should sound like a soldier, anywhere from 25 to 32 years old. Please disregard the original designs as her appearance and design will look much more realistic. These are samples of character designs from before and after: [https://imgur.com/a/gbnKVV6](https://imgur.com/a/gbnKVV6) [https://imgur.com/a/jhEFLQk](https://imgur.com/a/jhEFLQk) **Personality in a sentence**: Soldier, friendly, tough but not war-torn, mezzo-soprano, North or Southern American accent. **Word count:** 112 words. You can view the entire script here: [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/SafehouseNCRRanger.txt](http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/SafehouseNCRRanger.txt) **Purpose of revoicing this character:** If you click the Green button, you can hear the original actress. [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Gomez\_(Fallout:\_New\_Vegas)](http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Gomez_(Fallout:_New_Vegas)) **SOUND SIGNATURE:** Shepard from Mass Effect 2 (Doesn’t have to sound like her. Just what she represents) [https://youtu.be/WsOX7VbETTI?t=32](https://youtu.be/WsOX7VbETTI?t=32) **Delivery:** Only 2 takes max per line. Please save a .wav copy of your audition. Sometimes the best acting is from the audition itself. Please watch out for plosives, peaking, reverb (immediate disqualifier) and excessive noise reduction. Please email all auditions to conceptartstudios @ gmail with the title of Gomez in your email. **Deadline for audition:** November 27th at 11:59 PM (Pacific time). **Payment:** $50. Payment is immediate and expedited via Paypal. Paid on November 28th. Payment is sent immediately and prior to you receiving the script (when your audition is chosen). If you wish to be paid afterwards, we can arrange that as well. **AUDITION LINES** **LINE 1** (Friendly) (soldier tone) (Shouldn’t sound like a civilian) (Very important that it doesn’t sound like a speed read. Should sound conversational) I'm here to dust off the cobwebs.. ….… make sure everything is working… that sort of thing…. …..Sometimes it can be a while between visits by rangers so it's good to have someone around to keep the lights on for them……. I also bring ammo supplies with me for any rangers who may be running low……. If you need any.. feel free to ask. **LINE 2** (Friendly) (soldier tone) (Shouldn’t sound like a civilian)(Should sound conversational) My duties tend to take me elsewhere, but I try to be here at least a few days out of the week.

Information on voice acting by ketteiwolf0  •  last post Nov 22nd

So I know next to nothing about the art of voice acting. However, I have always found it very interesting. So I was hoping that you guys could help me understand more about it. What are some qualities of a good voice actor(and examples)? What are some qualities of a bad voice actor(and examples)? Who are the best and worst voice actors in the industry and why? Thank you for your time!

Actors Access Question by eightbells12  •  last post Nov 21st

"Familiarity" in Auditions by serenitymoon123  •  last post Nov 21st

Hey, guys! I have a callback for a new show on Tuesday. They sent me the sides last night (around 10-11pm) and said: "Please select two monologues to be familiar with. You may be asked to read from the additional sides as well." Does "familiar" mean memorized?

List of acting agencies in NYC (similar to SAMs list for LA) by charliefreak  •  last post Nov 19th

Does anybody know of a list of NYC acting agencies, arranged by 'tier'. There is a great list I've seen online for LA agencies (sometimes called "SAMs list"), but I can't find anything similar for NYC. I already know who the top few agencies are, but it's really tricky as...

In advocacy of Shakespeare as a learning tool... by Y3808  •  last post Nov 19th

Hello everyone, I began reading this sub today as an interest for something that might be a new hobby for me. I have a little prior experience (worked in radio in my college years for awhile) but not much. It seems that there is a lot of information online about equipment, marketing, and editing, all of which are understandable because those are objective things that can be taught. While I don't have any formal education in theater I do have a literature degree. It strikes me that people who want to voice act for a living need Shakespeare more than literature students do ;). I present initially for your perusal two Dukes of Exeter from Henry V, as an example. https://vimeo.com/301751644 The first is Anton Lesser, who you also might recognize from Game of Thrones. The second is Brian Blessed, who you might recognize as one of the most prolific British voices of the past 5 decades. They are both either present or former Royal Shakespeare Company actors and well-regarded in Hollywood/TV as well, so it should be noted that neither of these performances is right or wrong. They're just different. The reason that Shakespeare is still the foundation for study in terms of so many of the applied arts (literature, theater, etc) is the content of the above video: Shakespeare has been done a million different ways by a million different actors and directors. You can see how Patrick Stewart ***and*** Michael Fassbender have played Macbeth, speaking the exact same words in the exact same scenes. Or perhaps Owen Teale (also Game of Thrones) versus Ian Holm (Alien, LOTR, etc) playing Captain Fluellen in Henry V if you prefer. You can also take some free online courses from various universities if you buy into all of the above rationale, for example... https://courses.edx.org/courses/WellesleyX/ENG_112x/2014_SOND/course/ The above course has some very direct equivalency with voice acting. The professor explains why certain emotions are carried well in certain vowels, for instance, and how to perform these scenes yourself out loud while reading to prepare for the lectures. Of course you could then record yourself and then compare against Laurence Fishburne and Kenneth Branagh and see how bad plebs like us are compared to them. tl;dr: The difference between Jeremy Irons who gets 50k a day to read a book and some schmoe who gets paid 100 dollars a day to read a book is that Jeremy Irons can do this, and the random schmoe can't.

[Paid role] [Brooklyn accent] [Male] [$50] (137 words) by Dracomies  •  last post Nov 19th

Hi there. Our team is looking for a male actor with a New Jersey/Brooklyn accent. **Age:** Anywhere from 23 to 35 years old **Tone:** Tenor to Baritone **Accent:** Brooklyn accent or Bronx **Appearance:** Similar build and appearance to Jared Leto in Requiem of a Dream or Giovani Ribsi **Personality:** Greasy Johnny is a leader of a gang called the Greasers living in the North sewers of New Vegas in 2281. A rude gang leader, Johnny and his Greasers have taken up residence in the New Vegas sewers and harass the locals within and the residents of North Vegas Square. Although not a formidable bunch, the Greasers have been making enough noise that Crandon, a local guard, sends the Courier to get rid of them. **Personality in a sentence:** Rude, 30 years old, Brooklyn accent, acts tough but isn't tough, a street punk. **Word count:** 137 words. Full unformatted script can be seen here --> [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/1EWatchFiend1.txt](http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/1EWatchFiend1.txt) The formatted script has a better explanation of each line for easier acting as the EMOTION column in the original script isn't a good gauge for the lines. **Payment:** $50. Payment is immediate and expedited via Paypal. Paid on November 27th. Payment is sent immediately and prior to you receiving the script (if your audition is chosen). If you wish to be paid afterwards, we can arrange that as well. Please email all auditions to conceptartstudios @ gmail **Delivery:** Only 2 takes max per line. Please save a .wav copy of your audition. Sometimes the best acting is from the audition itself. Please watch out for plosives, peaking, reverb (immediate disqualifier) and excessive noise reduction. Deadline for audition: 11:59 PM (Pacific time) on 11/26/2018 **Audition lines:** **LINE 1** (told to leave) (fear) (but trying to save face) (mustering his men to leave) *Don't rush me. We're going, okay!* **LINE 2** (anger) (irritated) (Please send the uncensored words) *Oh yeah? F\*\* off, a\*\*\*\*\*\*le.* **LINE 3** (menacing) (irritated) (Please send the uncensored words) *You better make it worthwhile.
