Hi! I'm a young actress, and I got a job as an extra in a movie. I have to shoot next Monday. I'm kind of nervous, I'm still underage so I'm not very experienced. I've been acting for a long time but not in front of people. Recently I started with musical theater, and I've been rehearsing everyday from 8am-5pm exercise, dance and singing. Any tips for how to not screw up? They're paying me so...
I have a habit of paying attention to the extras in whatever tv show or movie that I’m watching. I’m always thinking “while the scene with the main characters is going on, what are the extras talking about in the background? Why do they look so busy?” My question is, as an extra, what are you talking about with other extras? Are you just pretending to talk? Are you talking about stuff outside of the movie like where are you going later? Are you given lines as extras to say while you’re in the background? Or are you just pretending to look busy while not saying anything or talking about anything important? I know my questions may not make a whole lot of sense but those are some of the things I think about when I see extras and I’m just curious as to what you all do and say while a scene is going on.
Please feel free to ask any question at all related to acting, no matter how simple. There will be no judgements on questions posted here. Everyone starts somewhere. So ask away!
Hey everyone, my friend interviewed Andrea Sooch from Claws. Please take your time and read the interview: https://geeks.media/actor-s-life?_ga=2.84386524.452632180.1528386162-1696653562.1526598701. It's for a new blog he's doing called Actor's Life. If you could give it a read, I'd really appreciate it!
Hence the question above. Found Studio 4 is closed, and just wondering
For myself I wouldn't, but bear with me for a second. My last name is quite uncommon, it's not hard to pronounce or spell, it's just as simple as Campbell or Johnson, but it's not a name you see everyday. I googled it once and it showed only 248 people...
Looking for podcasts of actor interviews. I already know about Off Camera with Sam Jones, is there anything else like that?
a talented unknown actor looks a good bit, not remarkably, like a certain renowned actor in their youth they have the same build and unique voice, hair color and complexion. how would they put they pitch themselves to the creators to portray that actor in a prequel or flashback in the ongoing series of seasons or films?Has this been done?
I used to write and shoot on my iphone, recently begun meeting local filmmakers to take it to the next level on better equipment, but I'm really hungry for a partnership, somebody that can meet my energy/hustle and wants to build something together. starting small and practical and working our way up to funding, budgets, festival submissions, etc. PM me if you're interested, i'll send you my IMDB and you can see what i've been up to thus far.
My girlfriend is currently working on her professional development essay on her college course (basically about the acting industry and how to be a working actor). There's a section asking about commission procedure and neither of us have a clue what it is, I've tried to do some research but can't find anything helpful. Any help?
Hey guys. I'm gonna update my reel and throw it up on Actors Access. Since they charge an arm and a leg, I want to make sure that it isn't going to be a waste of my money. Let me know what you think could use some work or things I could add to make it better. Thanks! [https://vimeo.com/274005244](https://vimeo.com/274005244)
I realize that there are many obvious answers to this, but I really don’t see it. I’ll be the first to say I e not been doing this very long and haven’t accomplished anything of note. I have hit that point where a lot of people fall off though. I’ve done a lot of indie work and have really started to come into my own as an artist, but can’t seem to land an agent. Auditions are becoming very scarce, and milestones even further apart. Money is starting to get tight (although I’ve just gotten a new job so hopefully that will help), and I work “shitty” survival jobs because that’s all I can realistically get. I really have no idea what to do to further myself. Used to be simple: build a reel, get good headshots, build your resume. Now I’ve got all those, so it feels like it’s just down to waiting (while still working on the craft of course). For the first time since I’ve started; I really feel powerless about my career. But even with all that and knowing plenty who have burned out at this point, I just don’t see myself doing anything else. I have never felt more alive than when in a scene. I have never felt more proud than when I say I’m an actor. I have never felt purpose until now. How do people walk away?
Sup, Reddit. Sorry if I may come off as stupid, but I am new to the performing arts. You know when people say "follow your dreams?" Well for my entire life I would dream as myself as playing different roles in films. I would just daydream about it. Every day until now I would dismiss my dream of being an actor because I thought that everyone wants to be a moviestar, but I just can't think of another dream. Movies are one of the few things I actually enjoy, so I might as well try. Sorry, if I make this a little long, but I really need thorough advice. Some things to state first. I am a junior in high school, 17 year old male. Multiple people have told me that I should be a film actor just by looking at me, since I have a kind of unique face. I have 0 acting experience, but I am really talented at improvisation since my 6th grade teacher used to do something where we have to improvise in front of the class and I guess I picked up the skill. I am also pretty good at talking in front of an audience/public speaking. My best talent would for sure being funny. I have been funny my entire life even if I don't try. I don't why, but it's probably the thing that comes most naturally to me. I used to be a class clown in almost all my classes, but within the last 6 months I quit trying to be funny because I see no point anymore. So I feel this is decent skillset for acting. I plan on taking drama/acting next year in my school so I feel that is a great start for the basics. However, it is my senior year, so it is only 1 year of experience. I'm aware that it is very difficult to break into the industry, how hard it is, how the chances are way against me. Of course I will have a safety job. I'm gonna attend a community college to save on money and study a decent degree in cybersecurity so I at least have a job if my acting career fails. On top of all this, I live less than a hour away from Los Angeles, so I could always drive to auditions. But I don't know where to start. Of course, I have drama class starting this fall, but another than a few school plays, where do I begin? Do I need an agent? Would appreciate any help, thank you.
Hey To start with me i can remember it started when i was 15 (21 now). I saw a teenage movie and in one scene i thought 'hey i could have made this better'. I sadly forgot the title of the movie. I actually only have thought of it till now, because im in a fulltime job since im 18. Now i want to be more active in acting. Would love to hear your storys. And sorry if my english offends you i am austrian :).
Use this thread to post your headshots for feedback, get info on your age range/type, find good headshot photographers, ask any questions you may have about headshots. If you are posting a DIY headshot for feedback, and not just a snapshot in order to get feedback on your age range/type/etc, it is advised that you do at least some basic research on what actor headshots look like--composition, framing, lighting. You will find a Google Image search for "actor headshots" to be very helpful for this. For what it's worth, the branding workshop at SAG-AFTRA recommends a five-year age range. That's inclusive, so for example 19-23, 25-29, 34-38, etc.
Hey fellow actors, I have two questions in regards to submitting to talent agents via email. 1. Do I write cover letters in the body of email and then attach the suggested files (headshot, resume, reel) or is the cover letter its own pdf that we attach as well? 2. Is it okay to attach headshots and resumes or are attachments not opened up for fear of viruses? I'm just confused as to how I would send links to headshots and resumes unless I created a website.
Hi, I would definitely include myself in the category of an "unsuccessful" professional actor. I prefer the Michigan area due to location and I'm plenty involved in a lot of different live projects. Is it weird to drop in a bio that I have a paypal in the case that someone might want to support me as an artist? I like to perform...and I'm pretty sure others in the area like to watch me perform...but I've gotta have a dinner every now and then.
Redditors that have improved their range of facial expressions - what resources did you use? Did you focus on imitating a certain model or actor? Any good youtube or book recommendations for this?
