I was hired as an actor to play an undergrad students for a college photoshoot. They will use these pictures to promote their school (brochures, train posters etc...) how would I list this on my resume. If you can’t tell I’m very new at this so any advice is welcomed. Thank you !
So, i got so much inspiration and thought so much about my current life today that i want to make a change on it. Let's make it fast: i spend too much time on my cellphone and say that's okay because with it i can learn theoric things on acting and filmmaking, both of the disciplines i want to be really good on. But that's mostly a lie. So, i want to make things outside my phone, outside the internet. Something that helps me being a better actor without the help of a device. What are the things you currently do? What do you think i should do? Excercises, any special classes that i should take, any book that i should read, ANYTHING that pops into your head. Thank you, folks.
I'm an actor. I write, direct, and act in little no-budget shorts. I'm trained. I have shit to say. A lot of shit to say. I want to expand my network. I know some stuff about this stuff and how the industry works. I'd like to start either a monthly, bi-weekly, or even weekly meet-up somewhere in NYC to network, make shorts together, make high quality features / webseries, or just cool projects. A group of positive people working together to lift us ALL up, share our personal connections and knowledge, and hold each other accountable for career progress. Write me here, PM me, whatever. Let's get together and create the stuff we want to act in. Let's make our passion projects. Let's get some shit into film festivals. Let's help each other get agents, or better agents. LETS DO THIS!
Long story short my friend has offered me a producer role. I’ve worked with him in other projects so he trusts me and I want to expand my horizons. For anyone who has done such work, I would like any advice and expertise on what I should and need to do. Thanks.
I noticed Actors Connection offers to make a demo reel with two to three scenes. It comes with a three-week class including a casting director who directs you through the process. They provide the crew and locations and actors to work with. I think it costs about $750. Has anyone done this demo reel course or can you recommend something similar?
I don't think I can afford professionally done headshots at this time. Right now I'm just looking to apply to work as an extra. I enjoy photography and I don't mind taking my own headshots with my own camera. Of course, I would put effort into taking these portraits. I...
I'm a NYC based actor that is just about to start submitting to agents. I might be moving out to LA with my parents sooner than expected. The goal was to find a nice suburban home that is a reasonable commute to auditions. \(I drive about 1 hour 15 minutes each way in NYC right now\) From what I have read Los Feliz, Burbank, and Sherman Oaks are all good options. Just wanted some anecdotal opinions before I talk to real estate agents. West Hollywood is expensive but a 2 bedroom condo there might be an option at the higher end of their budget. Thanks! :\)
It’s been a little over a week. The casting office has been in contact always back and forth with the callbacks and getting PIN
I live in France and am mainly interested in playing in English-speaking movies. So I thought about joining an american agency, but do they accept foreigners most of the time? Or do I have to live in the US? Do agents/directors sometimes fly actors out in the US? And I also had a question about big agencies such as CAA and WME; do they accept everyone (with talent) or they mainly accept already famous actors? 'Cause most people in these agencies are these crazy talented and famous actors, and we don't see the ones who aren't.
Hello!
How many musical theatre actors does it take to screw in a lightbulb? 5-6-7-8! How many Meisner actors does it take to screw in a lightbulb? The lightbulb's eyes are brown. How many Strassberg actors does it take to screw in a lightbulb? I had a lightbulb once...but it died. How many Mamet actors does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Fuck your fucking lightbulb! How many experimental theatre actora does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Lazers ::gets naked and humps the floor:: Keep it going!
If I'm already SAG-eligible, can I work on a SAG New Media set as BG without being forced to join the union?
This is something I realized last night that I struggle with, and in wondering if anyone else can relate. When you audition for a role and don’t get it, our brains tell us it’s because we aren’t talented enough, not because we weren’t right for the role. When you do land a role, our brains say it was all because of your look, or type, not because of talent or skill. I know this is a mindset I must eliminate, but it’s tough.
i've noticed something in a lot of movies i've seen. when they cut to a character with a tear coming out of their eye, a lot of the time it's only one eye. the most recent example i've seen is in guardians of the galaxy 2 when ego breaks the tape player and it cuts to chris pratt, he has a tear coming only out of his right eye. is there any particular reason for why this happens? it's really strange.
Hi everyone, I am a SAG-AFTRA actor with an interest in moving to Atlanta. I'm curious to know if anyone has recommendations for solid, affordable acting classes in the city. Classes I've heard about: Actor's Breakthrough (GregAlan Williams), The Robert Mello Studio and Nick Conti's Professional Actor's Studio.
Hello, I’m not an actor. I’m a filmmaker living in LA and I know and have worked with a great number of actors. Some of them are pretty established, while some have just started out and some are struggling. I used to feel intimated by actors, because I wasn’t an actor myself and it was always a challenge to find the most effective way to communicate with an actor so that he or she could trust me and help me realize my vision. As a filmmaker in LA, I have my struggles too. Maybe not as difficult as actors' but I definitely have my own set of challenges. I found telling stories about real people with my films and videos more feasible than making scripted content, because I could have more creative control with very limited resources. But at the same time, I didn’t want to lose my sight on fiction filmmaking because it has and will always be what I love the most. And I didn’t want to stop working with actors. So I came up with the idea of making video content about actors… what they do, how they do it, what they care about… etc. After all, actors are humans and they need to protect and celebrate that before venturing out to portray other human beings. I also found that most great characters in movies and TV shows, of not all, are great not only because the actors who played them had great acting skills, but also because they infused a part of their own essence into the characters. I think the video content that I make about actors may find its audience in the acting community. I’m thinking about posting the videos online like a youtube series or something like that. Each video or episode features one actor. Maybe they talk about one thing that defines them as actor \- a role that meant a lot to them, something or someone in their life, etc. What makes them the kind of actor they are…. You get the idea. What do you all think of this idea? Would you find content like this interesting and helpful? Would you follow a series like that? And most important, what do you think I should include in the videos? What kind the stories would interest you the most?
https://i.redd.it/m7ryw6ygf8x01.jpg Look at this awful poster for this mid 2000s Romeo and Juliet adaptation. Hayden Christensen is 37 and Emma Roberts is 27. How are they supposed to be a young couple in a blossoming romance when both of the leads look completely out of place in their casting? My friends could play those roles, yet they go to big name B list celebrities, hardly anybody goes to see them, and they're forgotten. Why can't an unknown actor get their break in a shitty film like This? I guarantee any two bit actor who just got their sag card could carry a performance farther, but Hey, gotta make money when all your Unfabulous and Star Wars money runs dry. /rant
Hey, Looking to expand my list of "places to look for acting jobs." I've used Mandy, Backstage, and Actors Access I'm the past, all to varying degrees of success. Any suggestions? Thoughts on any that I've listed?
