If I'm already SAG-eligible, can I work on a SAG New Media set as BG without being forced to join the union?
This is something I realized last night that I struggle with, and in wondering if anyone else can relate. When you audition for a role and don’t get it, our brains tell us it’s because we aren’t talented enough, not because we weren’t right for the role. When you do land a role, our brains say it was all because of your look, or type, not because of talent or skill. I know this is a mindset I must eliminate, but it’s tough.
i've noticed something in a lot of movies i've seen. when they cut to a character with a tear coming out of their eye, a lot of the time it's only one eye. the most recent example i've seen is in guardians of the galaxy 2 when ego breaks the tape player and it cuts to chris pratt, he has a tear coming only out of his right eye. is there any particular reason for why this happens? it's really strange.
Hi everyone, I am a SAG-AFTRA actor with an interest in moving to Atlanta. I'm curious to know if anyone has recommendations for solid, affordable acting classes in the city. Classes I've heard about: Actor's Breakthrough (GregAlan Williams), The Robert Mello Studio and Nick Conti's Professional Actor's Studio.
Hello, I’m not an actor. I’m a filmmaker living in LA and I know and have worked with a great number of actors. Some of them are pretty established, while some have just started out and some are struggling. I used to feel intimated by actors, because I wasn’t an actor myself and it was always a challenge to find the most effective way to communicate with an actor so that he or she could trust me and help me realize my vision. As a filmmaker in LA, I have my struggles too. Maybe not as difficult as actors' but I definitely have my own set of challenges. I found telling stories about real people with my films and videos more feasible than making scripted content, because I could have more creative control with very limited resources. But at the same time, I didn’t want to lose my sight on fiction filmmaking because it has and will always be what I love the most. And I didn’t want to stop working with actors. So I came up with the idea of making video content about actors… what they do, how they do it, what they care about… etc. After all, actors are humans and they need to protect and celebrate that before venturing out to portray other human beings. I also found that most great characters in movies and TV shows, of not all, are great not only because the actors who played them had great acting skills, but also because they infused a part of their own essence into the characters. I think the video content that I make about actors may find its audience in the acting community. I’m thinking about posting the videos online like a youtube series or something like that. Each video or episode features one actor. Maybe they talk about one thing that defines them as actor \- a role that meant a lot to them, something or someone in their life, etc. What makes them the kind of actor they are…. You get the idea. What do you all think of this idea? Would you find content like this interesting and helpful? Would you follow a series like that? And most important, what do you think I should include in the videos? What kind the stories would interest you the most?
https://i.redd.it/m7ryw6ygf8x01.jpg Look at this awful poster for this mid 2000s Romeo and Juliet adaptation. Hayden Christensen is 37 and Emma Roberts is 27. How are they supposed to be a young couple in a blossoming romance when both of the leads look completely out of place in their casting? My friends could play those roles, yet they go to big name B list celebrities, hardly anybody goes to see them, and they're forgotten. Why can't an unknown actor get their break in a shitty film like This? I guarantee any two bit actor who just got their sag card could carry a performance farther, but Hey, gotta make money when all your Unfabulous and Star Wars money runs dry. /rant
Hey, Looking to expand my list of "places to look for acting jobs." I've used Mandy, Backstage, and Actors Access I'm the past, all to varying degrees of success. Any suggestions? Thoughts on any that I've listed?
Hey everyone, I'm a relatively new actor based in Connecticut looking for some options on getting auditions around the state. I don't know really where I should start, so if anyone knows how I should get started in a quiet town in a quiet state, all advice would be appreciated
Musical instruments? Basic MMA skills like kickboxing? Accents? What are your thoughts!
Hey all, Wondering if there’s a good podcast for a guided warm-up for actors (physical or vocal), or if there’s a mindfulness / “checking in” /meditation podcast folks enjoy before working on material. Thanks!

Use this thread to post your headshots for feedback, get info on your age range/type, find good headshot photographers, ask any questions you may have about headshots. If you are posting a DIY headshot for feedback, and not just a snapshot in order to get feedback on your age range/type/etc, it is advised that you do at least some basic research on what actor headshots look like--composition, framing, lighting. You will find a Google Image search for "actor headshots" to be very helpful for this. For what it's worth, the branding workshop at SAG-AFTRA recommends a five-year age range. That's inclusive, so for example 19-23, 25-29, 34-38, etc.
