Some humble advice for actors, in all stages of their career by Michel_Simon  •  last post Sep 15th

I think after twenty years in the business I can define our ultimate problem as actors in one distilled answer. The number one problem we face as actors, stems from a catch-22. Our business is results driven, BUT, our expectations of those results ultimately work against us. We know CD's, producers, and reps want results. The producer wants an experienced actor, a CD wants an actor who fits a character, and our reps want us to book. All of it, result driven. But these results are counter-intuitive to our process. If we focus on producing results, the majority of us will go mad, or quit (most do in fact). So how do you navigate expectations in a results driven business? For me, I work daily on letting go. Letting go before, during, and after the audition. I'm letting go right now, in this moment, completely available to anything that happens next. When the audition comes in, I let go again, and free fall into the character, without expectation. Then, I let go again after the audition, leaving that audition behind, and again, returning to the present moment, without expectation and always available for the next opportunity, whether it comes or not. This is the key to sustainability. It's the only way to navigate a results driven business without having expectations of results. But we must see this first, we must acknowledge this is the problem. How do you navigate expectations in a results driven business? Good luck, and break legs!

So just watching Taboo 2017 ,in midway i searched for the devil birthday so that i want to write something. turns out its today the beast birthday i remember the day first i saw dark knight rises ,the fierce bane voice over stuck my head so much from there to alfie solomons the most intimidating character, the cunning flitzgaurd in revenent,to the emotional ivan locke in locke this man adapts the body language so perfect that he can just make you feel in character just by his looks especially the eyes As said by the master nolan himself Tom's eyes alone can act more than a normal actor, the intimidating Tom Hardy if found a better script and a better director he can make the Antagonist character to the next level in film industry Happy birthday TOM HARDY

Cast It Talent by akfjktis  •  last post Sep 15th

Has anyone actually received a callback or booked any work from Cast It Talent? It seems pretty similar to Actors Access so I was wondering what others experiences were with it.

Any good plays for a group of 4 (2M/2F) by snowchamp1229  •  last post Sep 15th

Normally I try to do my own scene searching but this one has gotten a little complicated and I'm hoping somebody could provide some suggestions. **Project** In my acting conservatory this semester we've been tasked with the job of working on a Super Objective project. The idea is to craft a role by working multiple scenes of a play to make a really well defined character. However, the class has the added difficulty of requiring us to look for: * 4-person scenes (with a possible 5th actor in a minor role if needed). * A play with 3 scenes of different lengths (\~3 minutes/ 8 minutes/ 15 minutes) * Somewhat even writing between the characters * Also if it can be great writing that would be good too Does anybody here have any suggestions?

I'm a actor/writer who's moving to LA soon. Any advice? by Spawn-of-Santa  •  last post Sep 15th

I've read acting advice, and writing advice, and moving to LA advice, but it's hard to find advice for all three put together-- or much writer/actor advice at all. I've written a few scripts, but I'm about to start on a low budget feature script with myself in mind for a lead role. Does anyone have experience writing their own parts? Or if you have general acting in LA advice, I'd be happy to hear that as well.

Literature/novels for actors? by BrokeHardHead  •  last post Sep 15th

Looking for books where I can draw inspiration from which also has a lot of dialogues and monologues. I’m very in to fantasy, crime/mobsters and thriller/horror. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. :) Cheers.

Jumping into the business during the pandemic, should I do it? by Suncaste  •  last post Sep 15th

As a newcomer, is it worth it to start getting into the business during the pandemic? Like getting an agent, getting into SAG-AFTRA, etc. My mentor had said that most of the work during these times will be going to those top actors or actors who agents are already familiar with who have been out of work because of Covid-19. I’m currently in college taking online acting classes and I’m planning to transfer to an LA school next fall. LA is still only a couple hour drive from where I am, if that changes anything. What do you think? Thanks guys!

Online Acting Class Recommendations? Barrow Group/HB Studio/The Acting Studio NYC? by hondaelementchick  •  last post Sep 14th

Hello! I'm a beginning actor, and I'm looking for recommendations for online acting classes. I definitely would like to get serious about acting, and would like to be in an environment where other classmates are also serious/you get enough attention from the instructor. I took an Intro to Meisner course at the Acting Studio with James Price. I liked it, but I'm not sure if I want to continue on at the studio and commit to the Meisner technique before I've had a chance to act more. Any suggestions? I've also looked into acting one at the Barrow Group and HB Studio. I'm wondering if any of you have had experience at these studios, or have other recommendations. Thanks a bunch!

Why is Javier Bardem so captivating? by Garavila  •  last post Sep 14th

He truly is one of the best actors out there. Every time I watch him I'm glued to the screen. He truly commits to the character and doesn't let go lol. He's soooo good and inspiring. So what is it that makes him so good? I feel like it's because he always has a clear objective in mind and really portrays his utmost commitment to that. Does that make sense? What do y'all think?

Hey there voice actors! I did some theatre in highschool, and some during college, and then the pandemic hit. I miss doing shows, and after recording some vocals for a few songs, I realized I miss acting too. I can do a decent British accent (for an American

SAG-AFTRA contracts / social security # by NullNullSchneider  •  last post Sep 14th

A quick question about contracts I'm currently doing with my actors for an upcoming SAG-approved project. Does anyone know if it is necessary to put the complete number in the contract? On the form, it looks like it - no mention of "only last four digits" or something? Thanks

Misconception about voiceover: you change your voice for every role. You don’t, in fact, you rarely do. by StorytellerAli  •  last post Sep 14th

That’s a big misconception that a lot of aspiring voice actors have about the work - you use a unique voice for every single role you take on. The best voice actors - Laura Bailey, Nolan North, John DiMaggio, Mark Hamill etc, are all innately recognisable actors who are all definitely capable of shows of extreme voice range, but for the most part, you’d hear them speaking as they regularly do for the majority of their characters. THAT is what makes them instantly recognisable. For the majority of the time, perhaps 50% or 60% of the time, you won’t be changing your voice, or if you do, they’ll be superficial changes such as accent, pace of speech, tempo or tone. You will need to hone your normal speaking range to suit as many characters as possible and make sure it is a tool for many, *many* occasions. Trust me, ALL voice actors, or rather, all humans, have the capacity of creating millions of unique voices based on a number of factors for any character they wish to portray. You’re not looking to become a Dungeon Master or comedian or impressionist in this industry with all these unique voices you’ve got in your disposal. You’re looking to become a performer, and the normal voice you wield is much more attractive to casting callers and VO directors than anything in your higher or lower octaves. Of course, it varies from animation to games to adverts and so on where versatility is rewarded differently (for example, if you’re looking to work on cartoons, expect to change your voice around a bit more than you would in video games), but for the most part, expect to see a one or two people BORED with your voice. It means you’ve made it in the industry.

Immigrating from a 3rd world country to become an actor by umininnn  •  last post Sep 14th

So I’m planning on moving from a 3rd world country to become and actor and just gathering information about it so I do this smartly. I’m planning on moving to Toronto and go to a public film college so I can apply eventually after going through the whole immigration process to a permanent residency, ask for a work permit after studying a Diploma for 2 years in acting and just try to make it like we all want to. Now, is this a smart move? I’m not considering moving to LA or Chicago or ATL or New York because pandemic and money and everything that implies but I also think maybe I should just take the risk? Even if the whole immigration process there is a mess and way harder. I am already making a big decision so should I just go all the way?
