"Don't count the day, make the days count" -Muhammad Ali. There seems to be this shame actors carry around having survival jobs. I think it shows your strength and willingness to do whatever it takes.
I'll soon be getting out of the US Army, and I have decided to pursue my passions in acting. Does anyone here have any experience with using the Post 9/11 GI bill to attend acting school (either yourself or someone you know)? I know Lee Strasberg and the Art of Acting Studio accept the GI bill, but I don't know if it is a good idea jumping into a full time conservatory without any experience. Any opinions or suggestions will be much appreciated.
So basically, I am starting off as a new actor though I have been in one production like 9 years ago, and I am currently taking Acting 101 in college. Am I able to put the production on my resume despite it being so long ago, and could I put the class under \*TRAINING\* despite not having completed it (semester long class)?
Hi everyone! I hope you all are having a good day/night. So I have an agent and shes wonderful but I would like to be doing more. I went on “The Actor’s Handbook” and was just checking out casting agencies in my area and under each one it says something like “General Submission accepted via email” “Please submit headshot an demo reel via email” Now I realize that if my agent is any agent at all she’ll have submitted me to these CDs already, but my question is. Are general submissions for actors just to send their headshots/resumes in for consideration on any project?
I know someone who recently got signed to CAA(Creative Arts Agency) without an audition. He only started acting last year in school projects and it was this summer he started taking it seriously. Apparently, his high school theatre teacher knew a CAA talent agent and sent in an interview of him to the talent agent and he liked what he saw. AN INTERVIEW, NOT A SELF-TAPE OR ANYTHING. How is this possible that a top 3 agency in the world didn't require an audition? He also had a pretty empty acting resume. Like don't they have to see if you're good and not just see if you are a cool person. I mean, Referrals man.. Crazy. Anyways, apparently he is an insane actor cause he booked a Marvel TV show(can't say which one) and is currently shooting another film in Atlanta with literally only 1 year in acting. He's also getting tons of huge auditions in LA and shit because he's rep'd by CAA. Its so cool man, but also frustrating, I also started acting fairly recently but he had the insane luck. I am jealous, but still proud of him nonetheless! He has a good future ahead of him. I am just shocked that such a huge agency can pick up a 1 year, Non-Union actor who did not even have to audition for them. That isn't normal right?

Hi everyone. I’m a 23 year old man the UK who hasn’t got any sort of acting experience but I’ve always been fond of it. I’ve always read about actors and watched documentaries on acting and have always been fascinated by it. Like a lot of people it’s a desire I didn’t act on and now I’m at an age where I don’t think I’ll be able to break into acting. I still have a belief though that I could shoot myself to the top because of my personality and belief in myself. Can someone from the UK please talk to me and give me advice on how to get into acting and give me some sort of leads and advice? I’m ready to fulfil my destiny!
Hello, I am looking to help this community by making free websites for actors. This could be a website that could display your headshots, be a personal blog, have your resume, etc. Whatever you'd like I can make it. And yes it's completely free. I am looking to build my web design portfolio and figured this would be a good place to help some people out at.
Use this thread to post your headshots for feedback, get info on your age range/type, find good headshot photographers, ask any questions you may have about headshots. If you are posting a DIY headshot for feedback, and not just a snapshot in order to get feedback on your age range/type/etc, it is advised that you do at least some basic research on what actor headshots look like--composition, framing, lighting. You will find a Google Image search for "actor headshots" to be very helpful for this. Non-professional shots are fine for age/typecasting; please keep in mind that one picture is a difficult way to go about this. Video of you moving and speaking would be ideal, but understandably more difficult to post. For what it's worth, the branding workshop at SAG-AFTRA recommends a five-year age range. That's inclusive, so for example 19-23, 25-29, 34-38, etc.
First post on Reddit so \~here we go\~ just got my Equity Card (yay) but im wondering if I can use a separate name for my performance art. Much of the performance art world is not Equity so I want to be able to continue in that world but I don't want to get in trouble with Actors' Equity. Any help would be appreciated <3 <3
As a new actor applying for roles/opportunities do you think it is worth attempting to write, shoot and act in your own stories and put it out there? OR to just focus character learning and applying for roles?
I am auditioning for Sense and Sensibility by Kate Hammill at the end of the month. I am trying for Elinor or Fanny/Lucy (this version can cast the same actor for both roles) but preparing the monologue that will set me up for Elinor. I am a fairly new actor and haven't prepared a monologue for a period piece before... Should I be looking for a piece from the same time? Should I audition with an accent (mine is pretty good...) ? I have been eyeing this from Jane Eyre, but I am just not sold on it... possibly it's just too emotionally driven for Elinor? https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/364998-i-grieve-to-leave-thornfield-i-love-thornfield---i Anyone have any advice on these questions or monologue suggestions that might be better than what I am currently looking at Edit: sentence got cut off
From an audition I thought I bombed!! The spontaneous nature of being an actor is so bonkers and rewarding! You truly never know what’s coming next. Sending positive vibes out to you guys today!!!
I'm looking for Voice Actors to collaborate with for an independent project I'm developing. What would be the best way to connect? There seems to be many different sites and I'm getting a bit lost in what the best resource is. Or if you're a voice actor on here, please reach out! I'm looking for all ages! Cheers
Not me lol. Actually my girlfriend. She found it on Actors Access but the reason she got it was because she not only submitted through there but also pitched herself because she was such a great fit for the role. Wanted to share because I’m really proud but also in case it helps anyone!
Any insight would be much appreciated!
Hello i was just wondering since most of you guys here are actors/actresses , and i have never acted on a professional level. so i would like to know what are some of your acting experiences while being on set? has anyone here acted on big firms like disney/broadway etc , tell us everything and share with us. Share some of your nerve wrecking experiences while being at the audition
Like the title says, I'm exploring the idea of hiring a voice actor, but this is new territory for me. Allow me to explain what I'm looking for and why, and hopefully the good people here can help answers my questions, and point me in the right direction. So I'm a writer, and I've posted several stories on Reddit. My mom is my biggest fan, but here's the rub...she hasn't actually read any of my stories. She really prefers audible books, so she can listen as she sews. You probably see where I'm going here. :) I've just finished editing a story of mine I think she'd enjoy when it occurred to me that if I could find a voice actor, she'd be able to enjoy it in her preferred format. Since the two main characters are female, it only made sense to look for a female actor. Plus, that's her preference in general. The story, titled *A Ghost in the Machine*, is approx. 47k words in length, so roughly novella sized. You can find it [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/wiki/series/a_ghost_in_the_machine) if you're interested, though the final version is a bit more polished. Obviously, I wouldn't dream of asking someone to do this for free. I will gladly pay whoever takes on the role, but as I'm new to this (and it's basically a Xmas present), money is a concern. I will happily negotiate something equitable for us both. So there you have it. I would love to hear feedback from the community, and of course, if you're interested in taking on the role, leave a post here. Thank you in advance.
I'm checking out actors access and backstage and both sites make you fork over money just for the chance of an audition. Better alternatives?
Oscar season is upon us, and It's no secret that the new Joker film Directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix has been one of the most talked-about and one of the most anticipated films to be released in 2019. It took top honors at the 76th Venice Film Festival by winning the Golden Lion, the Film Festivals top award, and garnered an eight-minute standing ovation. It's almost certain by this point that the film will earn a few Oscar nominations, which got me thinking....Has there ever been a time where 2 different actors have won an Oscar for playing the same role? Heath Ledger won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance as The Joker in 2009 (posthumously. If my memory serves me right I believe his Father accepted the award on his behalf, but don't quote me on it), and it's quite possible that we could see Joaquin Phoenix taking home the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance as The Joker in 2019. Has this ever happened before in the history of the Academy Awards?? Thanks in advance!
