Have Studio, need reader circle East Griffith park by gigafunk  •  last post Aug 31st

I do 1-2 self tapes a week. Finding readers is tough, as I dont like to ask for favors from people, especially 1-2 times a week for the rest of my life. I have a b+ setup(could be a little larger) , nice 1080 camera(render down to 720 for industry standard send size) lights, nice royal blue backdrop. Quality external mic, monitor on the wall, off camera teleprompter. We can pull of the impossible full body shot these demanding people ask for, but you have to matte out the sides with free software, very easy and I can teach you to cut in the limited way we need to with the free davinnci resolve. (But I wont cut for you in an ongoing way, you must be indepentant to thrive) I booked a low budget feature film(with name actors) under 5 with this setup I am pushing 40 year old married male(love my wife but she gets crazy stressed and touchy when being a reader, she works at a hospital as a life saving badass so shes awesome in other ways) and am not interested in hanging out, or going out for a beer, or any social butterfly shit. although i am interested in having a fun time working , im not a bummer, but I dont do social engagements (probably why i am in this pickle lol) my problem is no one I have met tapes as much as me. Buncha people in acting class , nice and all, but are not dedicated, live far, and/or dont have transportation. Also, I cant find people that are aggressive enough to get more than a tape every 3-4 months. I am looking for a core group of people to tape with. dedicated actors that are doing multiple tapes a week. I can read for you, you read for me, we enter into the future of tape only auditioning together. A group of actors that can message each other whenever that last minute tape comes in. I dont really think this will work, but if your near silverlake, atwater.south glendale and want to use my studio and read swap with me and/or have a problem of no studio or reader, reach out and we figure out a way to make everyone feel safe as we approach going to a "stranger from the internet's house" lol. I am in Sag-Aftra if that helps and you can bring friends till we all comfy. tldr; looking for readers, have a studio, will read for you in exchange, near los feliz blvd and the 5.

Has anyone here attended the “That’s Voiceover!” Career Expo in LA? Was it worth it? by butterbeancd  •  last post Aug 31st

I’m trying to be proactive and look for networking and growth opportunities, and I found this career expo that’s very close to me. It’s called “That’s Voiceover!” and it claims to put voice actors in touch with casting directors, talent agents, and producers. It also has panels with industry professionals, and there’s a separate program for 40 people whose demo reels are chosen and they get 1-on-1 sitdowns with agents. This all sounds interesting, but it’s tough to know if all these things are upsells or are actually rewarding opportunities for local talent. It costs $200+ to attend, so I don’t want to pay for something like this and have it turn out to be a total dud. Have any of you guys attended this event in this past? Was it worth it?

CALLING ALL VOICE ACTORS!! by thiccgameplays  •  last post Aug 31st

Hi! I’m looking for voice actors for a horror anthology series that I’m directing and producing! When starting your voice acting career, what does “networking” actually mean? by butterbeancd  •  last post Aug 30th

I’m at the beginning of my voice acting career. I’ve been training for almost two years, just finished my first commercial demo reel, and regularly send in auditions on Casting Call Club. When I’ve asked full-time voice actors about how to develop a client base that allows you to work full-time, they almost all say that networking is the key. But, in a practical sense, what does “networking” actually mean? I understand networking in more traditional professions. You go to job fairs and meet hiring managers. You talk to former co-workers and see if there are any open positions at their new office. But in VO, when you’re starting out and don’t know anyone in the industry, I’m at a loss as to how to start networking. I’m not familiar with any job fairs or the like, and I don’t know anyone I can reach out to in order to find available work. I can search for open casting calls online, but that’s not really networking. I’m just kind of stumped about where to start and what actions I can take to start really pursuing work.

I'm an entrepreneur, don't have a lot of money, but I'd love to help creative talents (actors and others) get noticed with what we've built - can you help me get the word out? by 0AMA  •  last post Aug 30th

I'm not an actor. I'm not good at any of the performing arts. But I believe that artists deserve to be noticed and their talents deserve to be heard. We built Rumbl, a 60s video platform that is all about having your voice heard and your talents seen. We are fairly new but our community is super positive and our creators absolutely love it here! With the small amount of money we have, we would love to bring visibility to the performing arts community. So, we have a [Performing Arts Rumbl-a-thon](https://rumbl.me/performingarts) that is coming up - it runs all September. We will feature one performing arts channel a day during this period, have weekly raffles, and some cash prizes at the end of it. The cash may be an added incentive to some of you, but our real goal is to ensure that as many artists as possible get noticed, not just the ones who have already made it. I would absolutely love it if you could help me spread the word here on Reddit and elsewhere! I'm happy to answer questions here or on a PM. Thank you!

I haven’t heard back after my callback, but I was told I did great? by theactingkid  •  last post Aug 30th

So about a month ago I auditioned for this feature film, shortly after I was told I had a callback, I went to the callback met the director and a couple of the producers, they were extremely nice and it seemed like I made a connection, this was exactly two weeks ago. A week after my callback my agent emails me saying that the CD told her that “ He did great and He’s still in the mix (: “ smiley face and all. I still haven’t heard back and they’ve started to announce some of the lead roles who happen to be somewhat big Hollywood actors so the budget is pretty high. Mind you the character I auditioned for is a supporting role, so I’m assuming they want to cast the leads first and then do screen tests for supporting? Production is starting in the first week of October, and they want to have boot camp for a couple of weeks before production starts, is it safe to say that the role isn’t mine? Or what does it mean when they say that you’re still in the “mix” ? Like I’m moving to the next round of auditions, or they still want to decide?

Theatre: why am I not getting cast? by Lord_Maul  •  last post Aug 30th

Hi reddit acting community! Just a bit of background. I’m early thirties, reasonably and objectively good/pleasant looking, male, British, based in London. I trained at a top UK Drama school. White. 5’10”. Posh. I want to be upfront that I’m making this difficult admission to the subreddit not for sympathy but because I’d be really grateful if people could offer me their honest analysis. I’m not afraid of being self analytical. I’m sure people have asked the like before. What’s basically happening is that I’m getting called into some really good theatre auditions, for roles that are objectively excellent casting for me, the auditions are seemingly going well (directors actively engaging with my performance, offering compliments about how well I read/auditioned, chats being fun, fluid and relaxed) but I’m not getting cast. It’s really knocking my confidence, because obviously I’m led to believe I’m doing well. In terms of my work output, when it comes to preparing for auditions I’m fairly studious and I prepare at least a few hours each day before my audition. I practice with actor friends and, when I can, an acting coach. If 0% effort is “I don’t give a s**t about the role” and 100% is monk-like dedication to preparation, I hover at the very least around 60-70%; often higher. Besides the very obvious reasons- someone else did better, wrong look, wrong height, wrong skin colour, etc- does anyone have any other constructive theories as to why I’m not getting cast? Is it possible that I am personally rubbing people up the wrong way, for instance? Eg I had an audition yesterday and I’d prepared 12 pages of dialogue for it. I went in confident. The director barely spoke to me as I arrived, let me start the scene, and then barely spoke to me afterwards, then I left. Sorry for the biblical quantity of text to read. But I reiterate I’d be so grateful for any constructive criticism, opinions and feedback. I know that casting always contains subjective elements which are impossible to accurately affect, but nonetheless I want to do want I can with the elements I can control. Thank you!

Google Chromebook Commercials Voice Actress by Dirrdevil_86  •  last post Aug 30th

Does anyone know the voice actress who does the voiceover for the Google Chromebook ads on YouTube? I can't find the videos on YouTube, but they do pop up as ads. I don't care about the commercial itself or the laptop, but I have the actress's voice stuck in my head and I want to know who it is.

What does 'Posh actor' means? by SSREESSSD  •  last post Aug 30th

Who is a cheaper David Muller or Stephanie G for LA Headshot Photographers? by strongmaya18  •  last post Aug 30th

Hey fellow actors! I really want to take headshots with them but wanted to know if anyone knew of Los Angeles Headshot photographers like them that might be a bit cheaper. Thanks!

You've already memorized your lines. by Jonathan Daniel Brown  •  last post Aug 29th

So many new actors get intimidated by the process of memorizing, but the truth is that it is actually one of the easiest parts of the job, Rote memorization is the key...

The crazy thing about rote memorization techniques is how effective they are in such a short period of time. In one hour, one of my students memorized one of the longest monologues from A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. In 30 minutes, another memorized a 6 page scene from THE DEPARTED. I

Spend some time repeating your cues and lines in a monotone. You don't want to lock in performance choices while memorizing, so I can't stress the monotone enough. Repeat the line five times, put the sides down, and repeat again. Then move onto the next. Once that's memorized, go back to the top of the scene. Just keep working at it, one line at a time. Although the process is tedious and repetitive, you'll be astonished how fast your lines become second nature. And if you're struggling a bit, keep chipping away! You'll likely wake up the next morning completely off-book. And you won't even have to work that hard to do it!

Once you are completely memorized, the fun begins: When you don't have to think about checking your sides or cues, you get to really play and start focusing on the performance.

Headshot-Age Range-Character Type Post - Aug 29 by AutoModerator  •  last post Aug 29th

Use this thread to post your headshots for feedback, get info on your age range/type, find good headshot photographers, ask any questions you may have about headshots. If you are posting a DIY headshot for feedback, and not just a snapshot in order to get feedback on your age range/type/etc, it is advised that you do at least some basic research on what actor headshots look like--composition, framing, lighting. You will find a Google Image search for "actor headshots" to be very helpful for this. Non-professional shots are fine for age/typecasting; please keep in mind that one picture is a difficult way to go about this. Video of you moving and speaking would be ideal, but understandably more difficult to post. For what it's worth, the branding workshop at SAG-AFTRA recommends a five-year age range. That's inclusive, so for example 19-23, 25-29, 34-38, etc.

Is this a worthwhile opportunity? Opinions needed :) by torschlussspanik  •  last post Aug 29th

So an international actor, who is from my country, is currently directing their own film in my city. They have asked volunteers to be on set and to be extras as well (not paid). It is a small production team as well. Now I was happy to do it as most days were a couple of hours. I applied to multiple sessions and of course the one I got is an 11 hour day. I have nothing to do that day so it's not like I'm missing out on work, but it seems incredibly worrisome that I'd be out from 2pm till 1am without any payment! Should I be picky and ask for a shorter day? The reason I'm considering it is because it's an excellent networking opportunity (I assume, as I'll be able to chat with cast and crew) which is even more important in our tiny market. Meals will also be taken care of. They have sold it as 'seeing how a film crew works and seeing yourself on the big screen' but I am already familiar with this (degree in film). And then it comes down to if it's going to be worth even having extra work when acting is what I want to do. So far my experience is plenty of classes and student short films with a few more coming up in the next few months. Opinions wanted and thanks!

Any Type 1 Diabetic Voice Actors here? by LiveFromFLORIDA  •  last post Aug 29th

Looking to hire (and pay of course) a voice actor who has Type 1 Diabetes. I am a Type 1 Diabetic, 20 years in November. I'm working on a project about the insulin prices in America vs. the rest of the world. The culmination of this project will be my trip to Canada to buy that cheap insulin. Only need a few lines recorded: "(LiveFromFlorida)'s Insulin Project" "You're listening to (LiveFromFlorida)'s Insulin Project" "On this episode of (LiveFromFlorida)'s Insulin Project" "This episode of (LiveFromFlorida)'s Insulin Project is brought to you by"

Acting resources by finnegan7  •  last post Aug 29th

GOT AN AGENT :) + THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING! by convictedheart  •  last post Aug 29th

Just got the email last night at 8pm that an agent is super super interested in working with me :) She sent me a client packet today, and a reality keeps dawning on me that God is so good. I have recently been very convicted this summer by God to foster a fiery passion for acting. Now, don't get me wrong, I did do a little acting here and there, but those were in my early teens..and I did it for the wrong reasons (e.g. wanting lots of $$ and wanting to be famous). I just wanted to write on here to give encouragement to my actors (especially my LA ACTORS YUSSS!) and to thank God for everything. WE GOT THIS YA'LL!
