I never asked my coach what technique it is that I am using. I want to take an intensive on it because I get the best results. My coach would ask me to think about a person and access that emotion or memory of them and throw it into the scene relevant to what the scene was about. I tried the 'moment before' but I would break character. Example: Doing a car commercial on how great a car is. My coach would have me pretend I was talking to my best friend to find my natural self. I was thinking this is Stanislavsky Sense memory and checking out the lee strasberg institute but I could be wrong. Any actors want to chime in on this? I get the best results from this technique.
BE AWARE -- I don't recommend anyone to get in touch with Nine9 The Unagency!! Please do yourself a favor and Google the name of their company and look for others' reviews as well!! So, I live in NYC, me as well, and like many others, saw an ad on Facebook that says that they're looking for actors and extras for the new series of Sopranos. They contacted me on the very same day. I went to their office a day after, and during all that time, they tried to convince everyone that their company has a lot of success stories and how much they're able to "make your dreams come true." They showed us many pictures of I don't know who as proof of their success. When I went into the "interview," they used to say a lot of time "Congratulations," "Good job for continuing with us" and words like that, to make you think that they have chosen you. My biggest mistake is that I didn't google Nine9 before I went in. They convinced me to sign a contract. I paid $530 and thought I am investing my money into something good for me. After I came home, I saw all the terrible reviews on the internet. People were sharing their stories, just like mine, on how that company manipulated them and how nothing good came out of it. AFTER LESS THAN 24 HOURS - I asked for a refund. Nine9 didn't accept it. Said that once I signed a contract, Nine9 "cannot" refund me. (a nightmare) They said that they could make an exception and refund me $150 out of the $530 that they took from me. I waited and waited, and no refund has arrived into my account. When I contacted Nine9 again, they kept on claiming that they did refund me and there is nothing they can do anymore. I called my bank which said that there is NO REFUND while Nine9 kept insisting that they did. SO WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED TO MY MONEY? I GUESS I'LL NEVER KNOW... I changed my credit-card just because of this company. That is how much I don't trust them. I guess I'll have to accept the fact that I won't see my money again and I'll never get the partial refund Nine9 has promised. I am unfortunate to write this review. I feel manipulated, and I wish I didn't have to go through this. The only thing that came out of my experience with Nine9 is a waste of money, time, energy, and awful feelings. Does anyone here have any suggestion if I can do something? Or should I just accept it and move on? Please be aware.
i have a interest in acting and i got all of summer to kill so i was wondering if i could get a few jobs working as a extra or actor. but advertising my self on multiple websites is very costly so i was wondering around the London/southern part of England if there is any way to get jobs as a extra with out having to pay the website fee's?
Does anyone have any experience with any of the Actor's Connection showcases and could speak to its legitimacy?
Hi actors, Mike here. I host an a podcast for actors called The Actor CEO Podcast and have been doing so for almost three years and over 100 episodes. I talk to industry pros and focus on how actors can treat their career like a business and build sustainable creative lives. I would love to jump on some other podcasts as a guest, but have found that many other acting podcasts are no longer recording...sad. What actor podcasts (or even entertainment related) are you listening to now? Thanks very much for the insight! \-Mike
Do SAG rates apply to background actors in Atlanta? If so, what are the general background rates?
Hi fellow actors in London, I wanted to ask if anyone has any recommendations for places like minded actors get together and network at? (any particular fringe theatres, university film societies etc) I know the Actors Centre is the obvious one, but just wanted some further suggestions as I’m looking to collaborate. Cheers.
because she was an intern in the agency and after her internship ended she asked whether she could be represented by them as an actress. She says it in [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHfgjBNQTjQ&t=42s) video. Is this a legit way to "network"? I mean i feel like interning for something completely different and then saying "Oh yeah btw i'm an actor too soooo.... could you represent me?!?!?" seems... unprofessional? Desperate? Well, obviously not since she got signed with CAA with ZERO acting credits. She was a student at NYU while this happened so i was wondering.. could the same thing work for a non-US citizen/someone who's in the US with a student visa? In order to get an O-1 you either need to have landed a "big" role in America (which you cannot do without an American agent) or an agency to sponsor your visa so there's literally no other way to get it. At the same time i doubt that any agent would want to take on an actor who doesn't have any legal documents but how on earth do you get them when you NEED an agent for them in the first place?? Obviously CAA has a special requirement listed in their website (only people with legal documents interning) but some of the other big agencies don't (for example WME). So is this a possible way to get signed with someone/network when you come from a country with zero access to ANY Hollywood connections??
I'm working with a company (JIGReel, I've heard good things about them) that produces demo reels for actors. They have writers who will write a short scene, and on-call actors who act in the scene, and you're supposed to pitch them scene ideas. My understanding is that this is supposed to highlight your strengths as an actor, so I was looking for suggestions as Some Moods that I can pull off very well: * Deadly serious and irritated (think: "If you don't shut up in five seconds I'm going to gouge your eyes out") * Low-key passive aggressive/Sarcastic (Think Hugh Laurie in *House* or Jack Nicholson in *As Good as it Gets*) * Jovial/jocular, generally in good spirits (For some reason the only thing that's coming to mind is Tommy from *Trainspotting*. ) Some areas where I'm not quite as strong: * Crying (wistful/nostalgic is something I can definitely pull off, convincingly fake-crying is not one of my strong suits). * Absolute terror (My fake screams are often unconvincing, and I have a lot of trouble forcing fearful facial expressions. I would make a terrible extra in *Godzilla*.) For the "serious and annoyed" category, I was thinking some kind of court scene where I played the judge, disgusted with one or both of the lawyers. But that was just an idea. I am a man. Anyone have any suggestions for scene ideas?
Hellooo aspiring actors/actresses! So I have been recently been seeing a lot of \*scary things that happen in the acting industry like selling yourself to get a role etc... is this all true? what is the reality of the acting industry?
What's the best place for actors to live in Los Angeles? I want somewhere safe and close to lots of auditions. Cost of living aside because my budget for rent is still to be determined since I'm not sure if I'm going to have a roommate or not.
It’s literally all marketing. Targets a few type of people 1. Insecure people not doing anything looking for a fantasy. Wow I want to be an actor it’s my passion! 2. Rich parents who didn’t raise their children properly afford for them to go to LA to pay for shit 3. People with no social skills thinking taking acting classes will help them be rich Everyone wants money sex and power. That’s why music that’s why these actors stories of I CANE TO LA EITH BOTHKNG exist... It’s all bullshit. Meisner technique? WHAT THE FUCK So stupid All these classes all these teachers all this stupid get headshots get a reel this is the industry etc it’s a BUNCH OF FANILIES AND MARKETERS WHO GET CLOWNS FROM ALL OVER THE EORLD TO COME HERE AND LAY MASSIVE RENT MASSIVE MONEY And then you go home after you give up. After you realize 1. La weather sucks 2. Way to crowded 3. There is children’s of millionaires here who are connected 4. This is a rich persons llayground Little 21 year old girls come here and get their vagina smashed by people who have status The life you really want of purpose of meaning of friendship of achievement of like waking up day go day is not here Nobody loves acting nobody loves to stand around set for 14 hours. Acting TAKES NO SKILLS You have social media influencers who never taken a class making more money than any of you. I wish to god my dog was still alive I would get the fuck out. Get a nice apartment a girlfriend and a easy going steady job. Spend my time working and then chilling relaxing laying $1200 for a dope ass apartment and eating healthy ass good food Watching movies shows going to the park video games Etc We’re not celebrities and we weren’t born to celebrities this shit is beyond less than 1%
I’ll get straight to it, I’m in my late 20s - opportunities to go to drama schools were not really there in the UK when I went to school or university because they were majority private and non government funded - and I came from a broker than broke family. - And yeah; now they are funded, I still can’t get financial help because I have now already been to university (and I only made that decision after having been advised it was the only way I was getting out of my home town and stood a chance to get a decent job) and now this decision effectively means I can’t get another chance unless I pay myself - moving back home isn’t an option, I can’t afford the ridiculous university prices all on top of rent and bills and maintaining a job that would help me pay for all this. I am looking for any opportunities to get into industry (but have a day job in a corporate that will pay my bills and rent, so struggle to get flexibility) - so long story short - Are there open casting opportunities I can look out for? or do something to get myself signed with an agent or even raise a profile somehow? It seems there’s a lot of scam websites out there so hard to tell what’s honest and what’s not unless it’s a major casting company, and even then, they only sign known actors / people who went to those lucrative drama school anyhow. I mean, heck, it’s not even easy to pursue the dreams in places like LA like actors/actresses from the UK have tried in the past with all the visa requirements and changes so in all honesty, I’m at a complete loss on what to do. Acting is about the only thing that brings joy into my life, but I get the industry is so saturated with aspiring actors and actresses so really any advice and help would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post, but just wanted to explain my situation and tbf hoping someone out here gets it
I've heard a lot about the Blue Snowball mic being good for beginning voice actors. I've read some positive and some negative reviews on it, the positives often being about how it's good for beginners and how it's affordable and the negatives often being about how it has a low bass and that it's a bit fragile. Does anyone have a suggestion for another mic or is the Blue Snowball plus a pop filter good for starting VA work?
If you send someone a link to your Actors Access profile (and if they are members too), can they automatically see all your media attachments and photos? I'm having trouble finding the answer and managed to just confuse myself while looking since some sites let you choose which media things are actually attached to your profile and which are in just in a saved vault. And when you submit for a role on AA, you choose which photo and media to attach with your submission. But, I don't see any sort of "make viewable" option for the media items and when I preview my profile they all appear.
Hi everyone, Are there any introverted actors active in this group? Just curious how you manage yourselves, working with other actors and being onset with lots of other people.
I come from a small European city and have literally booked all of my projects on my own. Most of the working actors in here don't even bother getting an agent since we have a minimal amount of projects available and our "talent representation" is so tragic that it's better not to have one. You land roles by networking which is quite easy since there are only 2-3 "big" directors which pretty much know all of the actors and literally just write new projects for the actors they like. I don't plan on moving to the US anytime soon since i want to make sure that i expand my resume as much as possible and milk every single opportunity in here, but how on earth do you get an agent? Like.. yeah, you e-mail them your headshots + resume + showreel etc. but do busy, top-tier agents usually even check these e-mails? That's not to say that i'm "eligible" enough for a super good agent or anything like that yet, but technically speaking i have 10x more work on my resume than 99% of the people in the US with small agents do. So what do you do? Our "talent agencies" in here have no representation overseas and know absolutely no one outside of our market. If in 3-4 years i decide to go to the US i'd need a manager or a talent agency to sponsor my visa if i want to work legally but how do i get in touch with them in the first place?
Hi all! When I first started out acting, I had tons of questions that no one really had answers to, and once I moved to NYC I found it even harder to get any of those answers, because honestly there are no real definitive steps to success in this industry, just anecdotes. Regardless of that fact, I made a podcast anyway, to try to help people along the way, and I'd love it if you all could take a look! It's just getting going now, but I have plans to get some very interesting guests this summer! It's under the title of Making It, Or What I Wish I Knew on Apple podcasts and Stitcher, if you'd like to take a look! Also if you have any suggestions or ideas about the show, please please let me know, as I want this to be as helpful as possible for as many people as possible. Here's a link to an interview with the cast of the Off-Broadway show Daniel's Husband that I did a couple months ago as an example of what it's all about: [https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/5-were-beard-actors-now-ryan-spahn-matthew-montelongo/id1447298495?i=1000429136508](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/5-were-beard-actors-now-ryan-spahn-matthew-montelongo/id1447298495?i=1000429136508)
