What new things are you trying to learn? Or working on improving? If you could instantly pick up a new skill, what would it be?
What are good starter agencies for actors who don't have a lot of credits to there resumes?
Hi all! People with representation - do you still submit yourself for things on actor’s access? Could it become an issue if you’re submitting yourself for the same things that an agent/manager has already submitted you for? Thanks!! :)
Question for y’all. I am SAG-AFTRA as well as EMC. I’m in a sweet spot where I can sister in to AEA at any time, I am only 1 week shy of the 25 week EMC requirement. This means I could take all types of contracts. Non union, EMC eligible,...
Hello everyone! I hope this post isn't too redundant. Please bear with me: I am a part of a New-York based group working on a short animated film. We recently found a voice actress that we would love to have on our project, and when contacting her manager, we were told that we need to be under SAG-AFTRA in order to make this work. Now, from the research that we've done, we understand that the actors themselves are protected (and members of) SAG-AFTRA. But how does it work when we, the hiring party, want to work with an actor who's under that union? Do we have to sign up as well? Is it even a thing that you "sign up for?" I hope the source of our confusion comes across, we are kinda all over the place with this (first time dealing with this type of issue). Any help, explanations and clarifications will be much appreciated. Cheers!
Since Film, Television and Theatre are considered "Art Forms" do you believe that Actors are also considered Artists? Or do you believe Actors do not belong in the "Artist" category.
I have a YouTube channel dedicated to giving tips and advice to beginning and experienced actors. So far most of my videos have covered auditions, technical aspects, dos and donts and practical acting business stuff, but I’ve read recent posts on reddit from actors looking for more technique related videos. (Breaking down scripts, developing characters, etc) These types of videos are more difficult to translate to video format outside of a class or one-on-one coaching, but I’d like to try to at least produce something that might help. What are some specific subjects you would like to see videos on that maybe aren’t out there already? What things do you want to work on as actors that another actor might be able to offer advice on? What questions do you have that you can’t find practical advice on? Looking for responses from beginners to professional actors in any related performance fields.
i've posted a few times before on here and met some cool people from this sub. I just moved here from NYC, finally settled with apartment & car, and I wanna start getting a team together to film shit. I'm primarily an actor but I can write, direct, and produce, apparently. I've done about 7 simple, no-budget shorts so far That I've written, directed acted in, edited, produced, etc. I started on an iPhone, the past few projects I've reached out to local filmmakers, people with good equipment, and the final product was obviously much nicer. I'm still in the early stages. However, I do have agents, in sag, etc. I want to take it to the next level and make professional quality projects, with budgets eventually, SAG, etc. The right way. Get shit into festivals. Change the power dynamic. Have those egotistical pissant reps be emailing US 6 times a year to get a response ;) But yeah, any actors / filmmakers / directors / writers / sound people, anybody that wants to make movies, be a part of a team, and start a production company, let's get together. I have infinite ideas, from pitch black comedy to psychological / sci-fi to dramatic, never ending. You have ideas, you have things to say, thats why you got into this in the first place! Post here, pm me, whatever. lets make some cool shit Edit- New Commentors, where are you in the city? I'm in Koreatown. Vermont & Beverly area. what times (weekdays/ weekends / nights) work better for you? We should pick a big place in the middle for the first meetup, but honestly I have a prety chill place, i'm sure future meetups we could all just host at our own apartments Edit #2- Haven't forgotten!!! Going to catch up this weekend, start reaching out to people, and hopefully set something up for next week / weekend!
Hi everyone. This may be pretty lengthy but I'd appreciate any advice. I feel very lost in life and upset most days because I don't know which direction I'm going in. I'm currently in university and I hate it. Ever since I can remember, I always wanted to be an actress. It's a topic that I would revisit all the time, research about becoming an actor, etc. What stops me every time is this enormous negative feeling of fear, uncertainty and doubt. Because of these feelings, it's hard for me to figure out if acting is what I actually want to do. I don't see myself as a person who is the typical 'aspiring actress' in the sense that I was never a theatre kid, I don't fit in to the mold of the stereotypical artists who "live, breathe and eat" acting. It is just a lifestyle and career that I enjoy. Playing and learning about a character, developing those skills, working on set, the lifestyle, etc. seems all very appealing to me. And then I see people who say "if you're looking to become famous don't do it" or "if you wouldn't do acting without being paid then don't do it" and that's just not me. I want success and I want to be wealthy. I hope anyone would think that before entering a career field but that just doesn't seem to be the general thought process in the acting community (as far as I've seen). I don't know. Perhaps I'm just making excuse or I'm a dumb lost 19 year old but if anyone has any advice on my situation I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
If you want to play leading characters on camera, remember this...
What is the best way to start/create a demo reel? Especially, if you don't have a lot of experience with speaking roles? I have mostly featured background work, but would like to start submitting to jobs and postings that require a demo reel. Thanks!
So I'm in desperate need of a demo reel, but have been having trouble getting auditions for indie/short stuff on AA/Backstage. I have an (OK) agent, great headshots, solid resume with lots of training, but am stuck in the catch-22 of lacking a reel (and can't get auditions due to...
Hi everyone! So next month in February I will have auditions for two colleges for their acting program in film and television. I am 23 years old with culinary management diploma and I’m ready to go back to school and become an actor. The requirements for the auditions are to memorize 2 monologues that contrast with one another but they suit your personality. I already have that taken care of, the only issue I’m facing right now is what do I have to expect when I enter the audition room? What kind of questions will I be asked and how should I answer them? I know I maybe overthinking all of this but it’s my first time actually going into an audition so I’m a bit Nervous but confident as well! So feel free to lend me any suggestions or feedback on how to prepare for an audition that will mean a lot to me! Thank you to everyone who took the time to read my piece !
Whether it's a network, basic cable, streaming.... what if you are a young actor with little experience. What's the typical first/second year salaries per episode?
Hey guys I’m Mexican and I wanted to know what’s the deal for an actor on USA. I’m on my second year of acting and I’m planning to go and make my way there but I don’t know if I have a chance or not.
I think it was after Meisner training that it became more apparent in my life offstage. Can anyone empathize? What advice do you have for me? If I get control over my emotions, will it undo work that I've done in Meisner? Edit: also maybe something important to mention, when I was in the later stages of Meisner, my first reaction to anything negative would be to cry. Now that I think about it, pretty much anything positive too. In everyday life, I could have a customer who brings up a death or coming death in their life, I can't look them in the eyes because I don't want them to see my eyes filling with tears. I have a great and healthy relationship with my partner and can't even confront them with an issue without immediately falling to pieces. Why?!!! How do I fix it...

Hello boys and girls, my company is looking for a voice actor but we don't really know where to start. Do you have any advice regarding websites, services or forums that we could use in order to find the person we need for the job? Thank you in advance!
hey reddit! currently thinking about my career and there's a burning q I can't shake.. I'm a young black male actor who has dreads and I'm curious about my career prospects. i am currently still in college and I'm thinking about pursuing an acting career in earnest after graduating. ive had dreads my entire life and have a hard time separating them from my identity enough to get comfortable with the idea of not having them. so far in college I've done a shit ton of acting (improv, stand-up, comedic plays/musicals, dramatic plays including Stanley in streetcar named desire etc) and haven't had to think seriously about my appearance. but as I'm thinking about the professional world of auditions, casting, etc I've started considering how I look.. I'm super worried about the potential problems I may have with my hair, but feel I have the talent to make it. is there a world where a respected, versatile black male actor WITH dreads can have a successful career? or should I be worried? haha help? thanks for reading!
